]Role Player Types :
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
Just like with any group of people, the most common types among them can be noted by three dominate standings: they're either good, bad, or something 'ugly' (deeper then skin and looks). The same applies to role players, and I'll go over all the different types of role players and let you decide what standing they have to you.
Illiterate:
An Illiterate is a role player who displays very poor role playing skill and an almost crippling literacy level. An Illiterate almost completely fails to apply proper capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure throughout their writing. They often break plot, character, and realism in their role playing, and are infamous for Munching, more on accident then on purpose. Illiterate's show the least amount of potential of the classes, and very few have been known to strive for improvement. Closely resembles a n00b.
Semi-lit:
A Semi-lit displays the some of the same common mistakes as an Illiterate, only less severe and with a higher potential to improve on those mistakes. Again, improper use of capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure are common mistakes throughout their writing, but with practice can be improved on. Semi-literate role players also display a basic understanding of plot and its elements, able to stay in the general direction the plot is advancing towards, while applying a basic character consistency and general realism in their role playing. However, these are still not presented strongly in their role playing, and their writing length is usually limited from a sentence to a paragraph. Munching in its various forms are also common, but can be improved on with practice.
Literate:
Unlike a Semi-lit, Literate role players have overcome most of the common literary grammatical faults, and strive to maintain their improvements throughout their writing, with maybe two or three mistakes per post. Along with this, Literates have also learned to apply provide a basic realistic detail of things such as scenery, objects, and other characters in their writing, which can make for longer posts of a paragraph or two. They show a better understanding of the plot and its elements, have improved character consistency and a heightened sense of realism throughout their role playing. Munching is no longer common, but can happen on occasion.
Advanced-lit:
Advanced-lit's have bypassed all common literary faults of the Illiterate to Literate classes, with literary mistakes occurring maybe once per post, if that. They can provide a more vivid realistic detail to story elements such as scenery, objects, and other characters, to such an extent that their writing length can be anywhere from two to five paragraphs or more on some occasions. They show a strong understanding and commitment to plot, character consistency, and realism, with Munching rarely occurring throughout the rest of their role playing careers.
Elite:
Through a collection of experience, creative savvy, and self discipline, Elite role players display an uncanny dedication to maintaining a high quality of both role playing skill and literary level in whichever role playing environment they participate in. Grammatical errors are practically nonexistent, occurring maybe once every three or four posts, and their ability to use fine vivid captivating detail to describe anything physical almost gives their writing life and texture, their writing length anywhere from three to ten paragraphs, or more. Their consistency and commitment to stay within plot, character, and realism is unwavering, and Munching only happens when necessary. These role players have risen above critique of their skills as a role player, reaching the pinnacle of all role playing standards.
Veterans:
After years of playing, years of role playing experience, years of plotting, planning, examining, creating and performing, Veterans simply know what's best, what's fair and what's not, and what works and what doesn't. Veterans are usually born when an Advanced-lit or an Elite 'settle' as players after becoming content with their skill, and begin to help other role players in any way they can, without being all pushy and snobby about it. Veterans truly care about the craft of role playing, and always strive to create or maintain a fair, fun, and exciting role playing atmosphere with the players they role play with. Veterans are excellent players, excellent mentors, and excellent friends. They constantly seek to expand their role playing experiences, knowledge, and wisdom to build upon the vest well they've already obtained.
Ex-elite's:
Elites who view themselves superior because of their disciplined role play skills, Ex-elites are the a*****e bullies of the role playing world. They often will only role play with other Elitists, are incredibly cocky, and see anyone who doesn’t meet their level of skill as a “n00b” that should be eliminated, even people who are actually quite literate. Their “Elitists only” policy has no lee way whatsoever, and they often argue AMP infractions with their own “common sense”, even though the AMP IS common sense. No one really wants to role play with Ex-elites due to their judgmental attitudes, self-centered complexes, and their cocky and 'holier-then-thou' behavior. They simply need to get over themselves and they'd be Elites.
Underestimate the dark side, do not.
Novelists:
The posts you have to scroll down the page to read.... twice, are a Novelist's work. Their skill level is usually up to par with a Semi lit to Advanced lit, their only problem is they produce so much material consistently in their posts people have no interest in reading all of it most of the time. They often feel the desire, or think nothing of, describing and explaining everything in excruciating detail, when it would be easier to summarize and more comfortable to read in one sitting. This isn't to be mistaken with a Literate to an Elite whose character isn't interacting with any other characters, as they're often prone to produce Novelist-like posts when doing character development or going from place to place by themselves. Often times someone who appears as a Novelist will only be a Literate to an Elite once they start interacting with other characters, their posts going from 15 paragraphs to anywhere between 2-10.
Remember to summarize when necessary.
ne0 n00bs:
A dangerous group, ne0s (never capitalized) are simply n00bs who can spell and have good grammar. They first appear to be Literates, but their n00bishness becomes apparent within a few posts, as they constantly break AMP.
The AMP is role playing law.
n00bs:
If there’s one thing that all role players can agree on, it’s their hatred of a certain group: n00bs. Put simply, n00bs (never capitalized) are the lowest of the low- n00bs are born when a Illiterate refuses to get better. Basically, n00bs cannot and will not role play fairly, even if outnumbered and outgunned. They constantly break AMP, and have horribly bad grammar, spelling and punctuation. They also hate criticism, and will often resort to flaming, which leads to being banned. The worst n00bs will often create new accounts, fail role playing, flame again, and get banned again.
They suck. Don't be one.
Nonrole-players:
Just how it sounds. They can be any level of literacy skill, Illiterate to Elite, but they simply don't role play at all, even though most of them can. They could also be a n00b who's given up on role playing altogether. Nonrole-players choose not to role play for whatever their reasons. This isn't necessarily frowned upon as much as it's just odd.
