PFC Fredrick David 0748- Sunday, December 7th, 1941 The day started off like any other would have, or at least any Sunday. PFC Fredrick David, a sea service Marine attatched to the USS Oklahoma awoke in the barracks in Pearl Harbor Naval Yard, and prepared to get breakfast. Since it was Sunday, most servicemen had the day off, and were preparing for church and things of that nature. David had been part of a lucky few to get a liberty card to go onshore the night before, and have a few drinks. This liberty card ALSO permitted him to stay onshore and report back at 1200 Sunday afternoon, so that the other half of the Marine detatchment aboard the USS Oklahoma, could go out on their 24 hour pass. As David walked out of his barracks in his khaki shirt, tie, trousers and garrison cover, two planes roared overhead. He shook his head, but they were too high for anyone to read the markings on them, "What the hell is the Navy doing running air drill this early on a god damned Sunday!?" Shortly after he said that, the planes dropped their bombs on two battleships in the harbor. The attack that the people of the United States were told would never happen, had come. David rushed from his trek to the chow-hall, across to the armory as the alarm went up throughout the base. There was a Corporal holding the guard position, and as the next two bombs landed on the ships of Battle Ship row, David demanded that the Corporal open the arms locker and start passing out weapons. "I can't without authorization from the CO." The Corporal protested. "We don't have time for that, and you ******** know it, now get moving!" David demanded, as more Marines showed up in various states of dress. "Take it easy PFC!" The Corporal snapped as more bombs went off and the sound of anti-aircraft guns could be heard from the ships, "Remember who you're talking to!" A large man burrowed through the lines and up to the front, before grabbing the Corporal by the front of the shirt, "Listen here, son. Gunnery Sergeant Williams, and it would be in your best interest to open the damn arms locker before we all die." With that he let the young Corporal go. The Corporal fumbled with his keys, and as soon as he got the doors open, David rushed in, with a bunch of other Marines and grabbed himself a 1903 bolt action Springfield, and as much ammunition as he could carry, before bolting outside to start putting up SOME sort of defence to the attack.

Ian McNaulty Ian had been taken to a bar by some older men the night before and now he lay in his bunk praying for death. Ian had not been a drinker back home as his mother would have skinned him alive when she learned of it. He was lucky enough to still be off duty and so he lay in his bunk nursing his hangover. That was until a blast shook the barracks and sent him hurtling to the ground where he was sprayed with broken glass. What the hell!? he asked half dazed. We are being bombed you stupid s**t his sargent roared. Get you clothes on and get the hell out of hear you idiot!!! Ian jumped up and grabbed his pants, and socks after lacing his boots on he rushed form the building. Ian looked up when he heard the roar of engine JAP ZEROS! Ian grabbed a Springfield from the locker along with everyone else and ran to take cover behind some sand bags. Ian had always wanted excitement but now he felt fear and anger already there were dead and dying on the field. Ian loaded his rifle and took aim at the planes...

ALAN REYNOLDS Alan Reynolds received a 24 hour leave on Sunday December 7, 1941. Reynolds had plans to go to the chow hall for a nice breakfast, to church, and some time with his friends on his much needed leave. Reynolds had been working consistently for months and needed a much needed break. But despite Reynolds much needed rest and relaxation he would not get it. Reynolds reached the chow hall at 0700 to eat and enjoy his time off. He left the chow hall at 0730 walking slowly because he didn’t have church until 0800 and he didn’t need to rush because he was not on duty for once. At 0749 he noticed frantic people all around him and foreign planes within the sky flying and darting recklessly. Reynolds’ anxiety got the best of him having a bad feeling about what was about to happen. Reynolds wanted answers since his personality was particularly 'go getter'. He turned to a seaman recruit walking by and said "what is going on? Are those our planes out on a Sunday? They don't even look like ours". The seaman froze with fear of the unknown because he did not have an answer for the petty officer 3rd class. "I don't know Petty Officer, I don't think anyone does at this point, but I would prepare for what might be coming." Reynold's throat began to clench and he began to worry knowing he would not be making it to church or to do anything else this morning. At this point the first bomb fell. It was time for Reynolds to start moving and follow suit to what the others were doing. Reynolds began to sprint quickly for the armory to grab a BAR. When Reynolds arived at the armory he saw his friend from the USS Oklahoma, PFC Fredrick David. Reynolds incercepted with David with an abrupt hello saying "Do you know what the f**** is going on here?"

PFC Fredrick David "I have no God Damn idea!" David replied as another plane flew over head. This one was scraffing the ground with machine gun fire, which spat up pieces of asphault and cement from the buildings as the rounds struck. David grabbed Reynolds by the shoulder of his uniform, "Come on, we gotta get the f*&k out of here!" The two took off rushing for a sandbag barrier by a .50 caliber machine gun. People were running everywhere, and the planes scraffing the ground were beginning to take quite a few casualties. Several other Marines and Sailors arrived in the small barrier looking for cover as they figured out what was happening. Bombers and Torpedo planes dropped their ordenance over the harbor, which now was covered in smoke and flame as the ships were hit. "Jesus Christ!" David shouted as a Japanese plane fired at them. David stood up and fired two rounds at the Japanese plane out of his 1903 bolt action rifle, "You like that you son of a b*#ch!?"

Ian McNaulty Ian ran towards the fifty his rifle would not take down a plane no matter how much he wished it would. Ian clenched his rifle tight enough that his knuckles turned white as ran a sailor to his right was taken through the back and Ian fell over his body. He ignored the blood and got up on his feet and dove for the sandbag bunker around the fifty. There were several other marines around the bunker Ian swung his rifle over his shoulder and helped a sailor who was trembling with fear unjam the gun. Ian looked at the boy even if its not affective you need to give people something to do his mom used to tell him. He handed the sailor his rifle and told him to cover him as he unjammed the gun and started to fire at an approaching plane. How much more ammo do we have?! He called to all those around him above the chaos.

ALAN REYNOLDS Reynolds saw what his colleague David did and he knew that is what he himself must do and his other men around him. Reynolds prepared his BAR and began to shoot as David did. As Reynolds emptied a magazine he injured several of the planes but none completely fell. As Reynolds took a moment to load another magazine in his weapon he looked around the men stairing in awe of the events that were happening before their eyes and said "Don't just stand there! Go to the armoury, get weapons and help us!" Reynolds yelled frantically and angerly not at the men but the situation and the fact that they showed no initiative.

PFC Fredrick David David fired two more rounds before looking up at the top of a building where a group of Naval MP's that had been operating a .30 Caliber water-cooled Machine gun, had been machine gunned by a passing plane. He swatted Reynolds on the shoulder, "Come on. We'll have more luck with that .30 than we will with these damned things." He rushed out of the bunker, firing another shot at a plane, which miraculously struck the propeller joint and threw the plane into a nose dive before it could drop it's bomb. David didn't have time to enjoy his victory as he rushed up the ladder and onto the top of the building. He pulled the bodies off as Reynolds and another Marine rushed up to him. David grabbed the Marine who was in his white t-shirt and his khaki trousers, "Get back to the Armory and get me as much ammo as you can for this f*#king thing!" As he positioned himself behind the machine gun he looked up, "Those are f*&king Jap planes!" he looked in confusion, "What the f*&k!?" He stared for a moment before three rounds hit the sand-bags. He ducked back down and pulled the bolt back on the .30 cal and started firing off rounds. Adrenaline took over as he screamed as loud as he could, sighting in on a Jap Zero that was flying towards him. Soon the wing broke off and the plane turned sharply to it's left and crashed into a air traffic control tower and the plan fell to the ground, "YEAH! How do you f*&kers like it when someone's shooting back at your a**?!"

ALAN REYNOLDS "What the f***" Reynolds said in awe and questioning David. "Those are Japs? I didn't even know they were mad at us!" Reynolds ducked down and said to David "What would you like me to do to help?" Reynolds asked this to be more efficent in getting the job done and saving as many lives as they could while stopping the enemy.

Ian McNaulty Ian had not brought down any planes yet, he had nicked a few but nothing to bring them down. until finally one dove straight for the gun position he hit the engine and the plane caught fire. The zero banked sharply to the left and crashed into the already burning wreckage that had been a hanger. Ian was angry but more than that he was worried. His older brother Shamus was stationed on the Arizona the Japs were hammering them hard and he could see the ships bursting into flames on the water. Ian wanted nothing ore than to leave the gun and run to the water find his brother and stay by his side like they always had. Ian's thoughts snapped back to reality as bullets cracked into the ground around him. Ian screamed at the young men at his side to make for the ammo shed several times before a young man named Mark took off in that direction. Before he joined up Mark had been a track star in high school, and it showed now he had been running back and forth between the ammo shed and the guns since the fighting started.

PFC Fredrick David "Just hook belts together." David shouted back. The noise was deafening around them. Bombs going off, machine guns from above, machine guns from below, the 1903 springfields, the BAR's and Thompsons made it deafening, ontop of the screaming. David swung the .30 cal as he chased a plane with the bullets, and got a quick glimpse of Battleship Row. It was in ruins. Ships were burning everywhere, Machine Guns could be heard from the Battleships, and the Japanese seemed relentless in their pursuit. Even with all the ships crippled they still fired at them, still bombed them. Though it seemed their focus was more on the airfields and main part of the base now. Suddenly there was a huge explosion from the harbor behind them, as the USS Arizona blew nearly in half. The explosion was caused by a Jap bomb that had penetrated the deck and landed next to the main ammo magazine onboard ship. The explosion set off the Artillery shells, causing the explosion. "Jesus Christ." David said in awe as he watched the ship begin to sink, "Those poor b*star*s."

Ian McNaulty Ian heard an ear shattering explosion and dark fear welled up in his heart. Ian knew something horrible had happened the only problem was he could not see what happened. There was too much smoke and fire, to many people were screaming. Ian took down a second zero and then his gun stopped jammed. ********> he yelled as he started to rip the gun down. This was the worst possible timing for this! if it can go wrong, it will go wrong and at the worst possible time. Luckily he had paid attention and he soon had the gun up and ready to be reloaded as Mark came barreling into the small sandbag fortification around the fifty. Hey, Ian is there anything else I could get you? he asked as he started linking ammo belts together and feeding them into, machine gun. Air cover would be real nice around here, do you think a single plane got up before these bastards sucker punched us?! I do not know, but our navy is sure taking a pounding Mark answered nervously. Mark was a young kid like Ian and he was terrified but he was not letting it get the best of him.

ALAN REYNOLDS "Okay David". Reynolds answered David for him to know he was on the task at hand and working as a team. Reynolds continued to hook as many belts together as possible while one of the Marines got more ammunition and David shot down as many Japs as he could. Many of the other men around them were doing the same. Some were working as a team while some were working as an induvidual to try to stop the bastards. Reynolds wondered how long this attack would go on. He wasn't sure if the Japanese would back down or if this would last days. It was clear that the Marines and Navy at Pearl Harbour were not ready for this attack and were frazzled to try to regain their terriotory again. Reynolds continued his task paciently to try to not make any mistakes until David told him what to do next. Although Reynolds knew he outranked David he also knew that David was better and more equipt with combat situations than he was because of his lack of expierence.

PFC Oscar W Tucker Army Barracks- Scholfield Tucker had gotten up relatively early for a Sunday. No particular reason, just when he woke up. So at around 0730 he'd trotted his way to the shower. While he was in the shower he began to hear the sound of low level aircraft and sighed, 'What are Navy planes doing running drills this early on a Sunday for?' He thought. Shortly after he heard the explosions, and his mind reasoned them to be nothing more than Navy Artillery drills. He continued bathing until he heard more planes, more explosions and more alarming, small arms fire and the sound of people shouting. He leapt out of his shower, threw on his shorts, and t-shirt and rushed out with his towel over his shoulder, "What the F*@k?!" He exclaimed seeing the smoke pouring up from the wrecked ships below. He turned to shout something, and two Japanese planes flew towards the Chow Hall and opened fire with their machine guns. Tucker shouted, but it was no good, people couldn't hear him and even if they could they had no time to get out. The anger grew in him, as he watched many of his friends die in the chow hall. He rushed up a small hill towards the armory when he met three of his buddies, "Come on, we gotta get some weapons!" The four of them rushed towards the small building that housed their weapons and found the Sergeant at his desk. After a brief argument, Tucker punched him, knocking him out cold. He grabbed the keys and opened the Armory. By the time they had weapons more men had arrived, and began to crowd in. Tucker grabbed a .50 cal and a tripod and started rushing outside to set it up to fire at Japanese planes.

PFC Fredrick David "Come on you sons of b*tches! Come on!" David shouted, the adrenaline taking over. He layed on the butterflies and watched as the planes flew by. He was so wrapped up, he wasn't even paying attention to how many planes he shot down, four? Or was it five? Everything was a blurr. Everything moved in slow motion, his hearing was heightened as well. Everything seemed different, and he didn't have a care in the world, except killing Japs. David paused a moment, to let the barrel cool down, and saw a Jap plane drop a bomb which bounced on the concrete. It flipped into a bunker several yards off and sat there while the timer wound down. "RUN!" David shouted to the men in the bunker, "Run you stupid f*ckers run!"

Ian McNaulty Everything was moving so fast men were dying all around him, his friends were dying all around him. Then the nightmare got worse, Ian forgot something important barrels can over heat and with a resounding crack the barrel of his fifty split showering him with tiny bots of metal and killing Mark. Ian looked at his friends with tears in his eyes and blood streamed from wounds on his chest, he did not know why he was not dead...he wished that he was. There was nothing else he could do he closed mark's eyes. I am sorry my friend Ian should have ran for the nearest sand bags but he did not he set his eyes of a further target the shore! Ian had to find Shamus. With that and only that thought in his mind he grabbed the ammo for the fifty what little was left at least. He also some rifle ammo and his Springfield and ran like he never had before for the shores of Pearl Harbor.
