The World of Alahmbrahd

History

Alahmbrahd is actually what used to be the continental United States of America (not including Alaska ). The history of Alambrahd is a history fraught with violence and death. Alahmbrahd’s history begins with an experiment. The Russians were dabbling in genetics and created a new ‘super race’ (also known as ‘furries’) The original experiments consisted of anthropomorphic wolves, foxes, and dogs. (a male and female of each species.) The experiments rapidly reproduced and multiplied exponentially. To make a very long story a little shorter, the ‘furries’ soon took over the military and government and soon began to eradicate humans from the face of the earth. The humans naturally overreacted and nuked most of the planet. The humans made a last stand in the U.S.A and were ultimately eradicated. The United States was the only place in the world that wasn’t an uninhabitable nuclear wasteland. The surviving furries migrated to the U.S. and after a few years renamed it to ‘The land of Alahmbrahd ’. (Alahmbrahd translates to ‘purity’). After about fifty years the furries separated into clans and began to war with one another. (North Clan is winning at the moment...if you can call total genocide against the other clans ‘winning’). East Clan is known for its stealth and skill in quietly dispatching small groups of enemies. Not much is known about South or West Clan; for they were almost completely wiped out by North Clan’s culling squads and the survivors of the cullings have reverted to doing anything to survive. East Clan is the last clan openly resisting North Clan’s oppressive and destructive rule and the only known clan with even a shred of honor left. North Clan is known for its violence and bloodlust, sending out culling squads to destroy other clan’s settlements. Then there is Blood Clan, set apart from the other clans and isolated by the Shadow mountain range (Appalachian mountain range), little to nothing is known about Blood Clan. This is the story of the land of Alambrahd .

Intelligence Oberlieutenant Nanuk placed a folder stamped ‘Classified, Eyes Only’. “What’s this?” Culling officer Tashi ‘Night’ Inaren asked. “Targets for elimination, A.K.A. your new orders. Memorize them and select your team. Oh, and one addition, you must locate and retrieve Alexei Grentskov’s medical equipment and weapons. We can’t risk losing valuable equipment to scavengers and the pathetic survivors of cullings who call themselves ‘freedom fighters’.” Nanuk spat as he walked out of the room. Tashi opened the folder and examined the contents:

Tashi sighed. This was below him.

A young Llana ran for her life clutching her slain father’s pistol close to her chest. She heard shouting and sporadic gunfire behind her as she ran. She screamed and fell to the ground as a bullet grazed the side of her face. She laid there and sobbed for a moment, arms covering her head. She finally got up and felt the searing pain in the side of her face; she started running again and reached the thick undergrowth at the edge of the town. Llana stumbled and fell as she ran. She heard paw steps behind her and froze... Llana woke up with a gasp and felt for her father’s pistol. She looked around and remembered where she was. She saw Kristopher and Natasha were still asleep. She looked outside and saw snow falling in big, fat flakes. Llana got dressed and placed her weapons in their respective scabbards and holsters (including the special strap for her M4A1 carbine.) She watched the snow fall for a moment and calmed herself. Llana gently shook Kris to wake him up. She wasn’t going to touch Natasha after what happened last time. “What is it? I was having a good dream.” Kris said, rubbing his eyes sleepily. “We’ve been here to long, we need to move. Please wake up your sister.” Llana said. “I’m already awake.” Natasha said, fully dressed and balancing her knife on her fingertip. “Oh, well we need to get going.” Llana said, smiling nervously. Kris walked out of the ruins of a large school building and looked around. “It looks clear; I don’t see any new tracks in the snow.” Kris said, examining the ground closely. “Good, we can assume that no one knows where we are.” Natasha said, expressionless.

Alexei Grentskov awoke with a start; he was lying on his side, he sat up and nearly passed out from the pain behind his eyes. He looked down and saw the snow where his head had been was stained red. He cautiously felt the back of his head and cried out in pain, his vision went blurry. He heard a twig snap behind him and a muffled curse. He whipped his head around and cried out again. He began to realize how cold it was outside; his vision was rimmed in inky darkness. He made a weak grab for his pistol and realized it was gone. “Please...don’t take me back to North Clan headquarters...” Alexei said as the darkness consumed him. Alexei woke up once again, he felt warmer this time. “Good, you’re awake.” A gravelly male voice with the distinctive Blood Clan (Russian) accent said. Alexei opened his eyes and saw a large male wolf sitting by a fire cutting up some cabbage. “Your head is pretty banged up, nothing serious, but still enough to hurt. My name’s Kris by the way.” Kris said, not looking up from his cabbage. “M-my name’s Alexei Grentskov, please call me Alex.” Alex said, sitting up slowly. “You know, you’re lucky to still be alive, you were almost frozen to death and the South Clan remnant was almost upon you. Here, eat this, you’re still slightly hypothermic, you need something to warm you from the inside.” Kris said, handing Alex a bowl of some kind of soup. “What is it?” Alex asked, staring at the soup. “It’s borscht, my special recipe.” Kris replied, smiling slightly. Alex took a bite, paused for a moment, and began to devour the borscht. Kris chuckled. “Wait, wait! You weren’t born of North Clan parents, are you? You don’t have North Clan eyes.” Kris said, examining Alex. “I don’t know. I was in North Clan territory all my life. I never knew my parents, they were apparently killed in a small raid The North Clan officials forced me to enter the military by kidnapping and holding my sister hostage, but I never killed anyone if I could avoid it.” Alex said, still devouring the borscht. Llana walked in and saw Alex. “What is this...this...North Clan b*****d doing here and why isn’t he dead, lying in a pool of his own blood and gore?!” Llana spat, gesturing sharply at Alex. “Llana, he’s different.” Kris said gently. “Their all the same! All they do is kill and destroy and maim and rape!” Llana hissed, moving toward Alex with her father’s pistol drawn. Alex scrambled backward, eyes wide. “Llana. Calm down. If my brother says he’s different, then he is different.” Natasha said, appearing out of nowhere and grabbing Llana’s wrist. Llana holstered her father’s pistol and stepped back. “I’m sorry. I...wasn’t expecting this.” Llana almost literally snarled, giving Alex a look that could peel paint off a wall from a mile away. “I apologize for Llana’s behavior, I should have warned you; she had a bad experience with a North Clan soldier. She...doesn’t trust many males.” Kris said, frowning slightly. “I noticed!” Alex said, laughing nervously. Kris handed Alex a neatly folded stack of clothing and a belt holster. “Change into this; It’s an old East Clan combat uniform. You’re a little too...conspicuous wearing a North Clan culling uniform.” Kris said. Natasha led Llana out of the room. Alex pulled off his shirt, revealing numerous scars and a necklace. “Alex, can I see that necklace?” Kris said, holding out his paw. “Um, sure...just please be careful, that belonged to my father.” Alex replied, taking off the necklace and handing it to Kris. Kris examined it for a moment. “You have no idea who your family was. You...you are directly descended from the original experiments that eradicated the humans. Your family was known for their cold, calculating and merciless nature on and off the battlefield.” Kris said, handing Alex the necklace. “Really? They told me my family was a bunch of peasants.” Alex said, smiling slightly. Alex finished changing and realized the clothes fit well, but they were just a tiny bit too big. “I think I’ll keep the bullet proof vest.” Alex said, putting it on. Kris chuckled. “I don’t trust him.” Llana said, reentering the room. “He’s going on patrol with me tomorrow morning.” Kris replied. Before Llana could say anything, something let out a bloodcurdling shriek and slammed into the door. “What the hell was that?!” Kris said, throwing Alex a Skorpion and grabbing his other Skorpion. Alex cycled the bolt of his suppressed Skorpion and shot a six round burst through the door. The thing on the other side let out another shriek and slammed against the door once again. Alex adjusted his aim and fired three shots. They heard the thing slump against the door and die. “That’s never happened before.” Kris said, carefully opening the door. What they saw slumped against the door nearly made Alex vomit. It was a human...more accurately it was a horribly disfigured, bloated human-like form that was covered in sores and growths. “Whatever this thing is, it’s from before the time the land was divided into clans and territories. It’s from the time when humans weren’t extinct.” Natasha said, kicking the body over and seeing the distinctive globe and anchor of the United States Marine Corps on the tatters of clothes the thing was wearing. “But that means it’s over 120 years old.” Alex said, avoiding looking at the disgusting figure lying on the floor in front of him. “You! You brought this thing with you!” Llana said, pulling out her pistol and brandishing it in Alex’s direction. Alex stood up and gently set his Skorpion on the floor. “Prove it. Prove I brought whatever that...thing is upon you.” Alex said, paws open to show Llana he was unarmed. “You...you brought it here to kill us, I-I know it.” Llana said, faltering slightly. “Why would I kill it then? You still need to prove I did it.” Alex said in an even, reasonable and calming tone. Llana took a step back, here eyes beginning to fill with tears. Alex sounded just like her father, asked her to reason just like her father; he even looked like her father...what was going on?! Llana dropped her father’s pistol and took another step back. “Llana, are you okay?” Kris asked, taking a step toward her. “Father?” Llana murmured. “Llana, answer me.” Kris said, getting worried. Then Llana rushed forward and embraced Alex, sobbing. “I’m sorry! You are different!” Llana said, hugging Alex tightly. Alex stood there awkwardly until Llana released him. “Um, what just happened?” Alex asked, looking over at Kris. “You remind Llana of her father.” Natasha said. “Oh...” Alex said, still a little unnerved. “I-I’m sorry, you do remind me of my father, but I also trust you. You aren’t like the other North Clan. Hell, you aren’t even really North Clan at all I guess.” Llana said, stepping back from Alex and wiping her eyes. “We have to warn the Elders about this.” Llana said, picking up her father’s pistol and checking it for damage. “We leave for the East Clan stronghold in four hours.” Kris said as the all lay down to sleep.

Llana and the others had been walking for hours when Kris motioned for them to stop. “North Clan camp. Llana, Natasha, you know the drill. Alex, you just stay here and watch. Don’t make a sound.” Kris said, moving into a dark alleyway behind a sentry. Kris made a clicking sound and the sentry walked over to investigate. “Oi, Suzy.” Kris murmured as he stabbed the sentry in the chest with his trench knife whiles covering the sentry’s muzzle with his free paw. The sentry made a gurgling noise and struggled weakly for a few moments, then went limp with a final exhalation. Kris clicked his tongue three times in quick succession and gently laid the sentry’s limp body on the ground and took his weapon without a sound. Alex heard short bursts of suppressed gunfire coming from the camp and turned around to look. The gunfire coming from the shadows of the tall, ruined buildings stopped as quickly as it began. Every North Clan soldier in the camp was dead with a three round burst to the head. “A job well done if I say so myself.” Kris said walking back to where Alex was watching. “Here, I think you’ll be more comfortable with this weapon.” Kris said tossing a suppressed H&K 416 with the standard spec. ops. modification kit. “Thank you, I think I’ll search the camp for more ammo.” Alex replied, making his way to the center of the camp. Kris nodded and watched as Alex searched the bodies for ammunition and other useful items. “Whoa! I found a whole tent full of crates with ammo for a lot of different guns!” Alex said, busily filling his rucksack with magazines for his H&K 416. “Let us check it out.” Llana said picking up a rucksack for herself. (Rucksacks are standard issue for any North Clan soldier.) “He’s right, no booby traps either. Only open the ones we need and hurry.” Llana said examining the crates closely. Kris grabbed a rucksack, pried open the crates they needed and began to pull out magazines and tie them together according to type. Natasha pulled out as many magazines for her AK-47 as she could fit in her ‘liberated’ rucksack. Llana did the same. Alex walked into the tent carrying a suppressed M93 Raffica without the stock and the holster for it. “can you find some ammo for this?” Alex asked setting the machine pistol on the ground. “Sure. Get another rucksack and help yourself.” Kris said, setting several magazines on the ground. “I found something better than a rucksack.” Alex replied, smiling. “What’d you find?” Llana asked. “I found a tactical vest.” Alex replied, pulling some of the H&K 416 magazines out of his rucksack and fitting them into some of the pouches on the vest. He then filled the rest of the pouches with M93 magazines. “Where did you find that?” Llana asked. “The tent next to this one is full of them in almost every size. This isn’t just a North Clan camp, it’s a re-supply post!” Alex said, smiling brightly. Kris entered the other tent, found Natasha’s, Llana’s and his own size and brought back a vest for each of them. “We need to get moving.” Llana said, motioning in a general easterly direction. Alex and the others nodded and followed. After about an hour of walking they all heard a faint pop coming from the direction of an almost completely destroyed building about 200 yards away. Then Alex was knocked clean off his footpaws as a 7.62x51mm round slammed into his chest. “Get out of the road!” Kris shouted as he grabbed Alex’s arm and pulled him into the alleyway where the rest of them were waiting. “Rush the building, use the alleyway and make sure whoever fired that shot doesn’t escape.” Llana said in a calm tone of voice. Alex coughed loudly a couple of times and stood up after a few moments. “God bless Kevlar and ceramic discs!” Alex said as he stood up. “You okay?” Kris asked. “Yeah, I just got the wind knocked out of me.” Alex replied, smiling. After about ten minutes Natasha arrived carrying a M21 EBR sniper rifle, a suppressed M4A1 carbine, a suppressed M9 pistol, and several magazines for each weapon “You won’t believe what tried to kill you.” Llana called, still in the shadows. “You mean ‘who’ not ‘what’ right?” Alex asked, puzzled. “I meant what I said.” Llana said, walking out of the shadows. Alex saw what had tried to kill him and it was obvious he wasn’t happy at all. It was a human. More accurately it was a teenage human wearing old military fatigues, a black trench coat, combat boots, and an ushanka. “I thought humans were extinct.” Kris said, puzzled. “Humans seem to have an annoying tenacity to survive.” Alex said, the anger showing in his eyes. “You know I’m not a thing, I’m a sentient life form!” The human said, indignant. “Shut up! You just tried to kill me and I don’t think it’s in your best interest to start talking, human! You are below me! You. Are. Nothing. But. Scum!” Alex growled, walking over to the human and hitting him in the face as hard as I could. The human looked up, nose bloody, and glared at Alex with pure hatred...but the human didn’t say another word. “Good, at least you’re smart enough to know your place.” Alex said in a tone of voice only a culling interrogation officer could produce. (Just imagine an SS officer interrogating you.) “Alex, what did you do for North Clan?” Kris asked tentatively. “I was a medical and interrogation officer.” Alex growled, still seething with uncontrollable rage. “That’s what I thought.” Kris said, frowning. “You’re no better than a friggin’ Nazi.” The human said, spitting a glob of blood into Alex’s face. Alex reared back to strike the human, but Kris caught his fist and held him back. “Don’t do it, You’re mind is reverting back to your North Clan...training...because of the stress of almost being killed.” Kris said, still holding Alex back. Alex blinked and went limp after realizing what he had just done. “I-I can’t believe I just did that...w-why did I do it?” Alex said, faltering as he looked at the blood on his paws. “It’s not your fault, North Clan training breaks you down and well, reprograms you to do whatever task they select for you. Like I said, it’s not your fault.” Kris said, releasing Alex. Alex gave Kris a longing look but quickly looked away. Kris caught Alex’s eye but didn’t say anything. “So what are you going to do with me?” The human asked, the defiant attitude gone and replaced with a genuine curiosity. “That depends, why did you shoot my friend?” Kris asked. “Well I really didn’t want to. As the female fox saw I had to...defend myself from the other guy in that ruin of a building. My name’s Matthias Alexandrov Kiet by the way, you can call me Matti...if you decide to let me live.” Matti said, smiling feebly. “I saw what you did; you stabbed the other human twenty two times in various places, after gouging out one of his eyes and shattering his jaw...and shooting him in the head three times.” Llana said, slightly impressed with the humans ferocity. “It’s actually pretty simple why I killed him. He was a saboteur from another faction who threatened to poison our water supply. We don’t take kindly to disloyalty in our faction.” Matti said, frowning. “You still haven’t explained why you shot Alex.” Natasha said, balancing a throwing knife on her fingertip. “I saw he was the only one wearing a bullet-proof vest and aimed for him, knowing that I wouldn’t kill him.” Matti said, repeatedly glancing over at Natasha’s knife. “What’s with her? She hasn’t said a word, she kind of makes me nervous.” Matti asked, staring at Natasha’s knife. “Natasha’s supposed to make you nervous; she’s a Blood Clan shadow warrior.” Kris said, frowning. Natasha put away her throwing knife and stepped over to where Llana was holding Matti, grabbed Mattie’s face and looked deeply into his eyes. Matti met her gaze and didn’t look away. “Take him with us, but keep an eye on him He may prove useful.” Natasha said, turning to look at Kris. “I’ll go with you, but I have to get my weapons first. There in that ruined building you found me in.” Matti said gesturing toward the building. “I don’t that will be necessary. Natasha already found your weapons as you can see.” Kris said, smiling. Matti walked over to Natasha and took his weapons. “Did you find my binoculars?” Matti asked. “I did.” Natasha said handing Matti a black leather case. Then Alex saw Natasha and Llana’s ears perk up. “What do you hear?” Alex asked, concerned. “It’s kind of a mechanical sound, but mixed with a metallic clicking; I’ve never heard it before.” Alex and Matti’s eyes widened. “s**t! If you guys want to live, follow me and do whatever I say. Now!” Matti said running in the direction of a ruined shopping mall. Alex followed Matti as fast as he could. “Come on guys, if you stay out in the streets, you’re gonna get killed!” Alex shouted over his shoulder. The others ran over to where they last saw Matti and Alex. Matti led them up a stopped escalator to an open room where a broken window was facing the street. Kris crawled over to the window and looked down at the street. What he saw sent shivers down his spine. It was a North Clan vehicular patrol consisting of two Hummvees with M2 .50 caliber machine guns mounted on the roof and a two-and-a-half ton truck holding about twenty North Clan soldiers. “We have to take out those Hummvees first.” Matti said, causing Kris to jump. “Here, take this and when I light it, throw it as hard as you can at the Hummvee in the front of the patrol.” Matti said, handing Kris a Molotov cocktail. Kris took it and nodded, watching as the North Clan troops began to dismount the truck. “Throw it.” Matti said. Kris threw the bottle full of gasoline mixed with a little bit of tar at the leading Hummvee, watched as it went through the opening in the roof, and shattered inside the Hummvee causing the interior to burst into flame. Kris heard screams as the driver and gunner were burned alive. Kris looked and saw the other Hummvee and the truck were engulfed in flames as well. Then the truck exploded as the flames reached its gas tank. “Good work! Now let’s get out of here!” Matti said triumphantly. Kris looked out the broken window and saw a North Clan soldier limp out from behind the truck carrying a grenade launcher. Time slowed down for Kris as he shouted for everyone to get down and he tackled the person closest to him to the ground. The soldier fired the grenade launcher and it turned out to be a wild shot. The grenade went into the room next to them and exploded harmlessly. Natasha stood up and shot the soldier in the head. Kris looked down and saw he had tackled Alex. Alex recovered from the surprise of being tackled, looked Kris in the eye for a moment, then leaned up and kissed Kris deeply. Kris pulled back in surprise, stood up and took a step back from Alex. Alex stood up and looked deeply embarrassed, avoiding looking Kris in the eye. “I-I’m sorry, I thought you were- I mean I-I...” Alex said, and then ran out of the room in embarrassment. “So the male fox is gay? That’s...pretty weird.” Matti said crossing his arms and frowning. Llana swatted Matti on the back of the head and glared at him. “I think I should go talk to him.” Kris said, walking out of the room to follow Alex. Kris found Alex sitting behind the stopped escalator, tears in his eyes. “Alex, I...” Kris began to say. “Leave me be.” Alex interrupted him, his voice breaking. “Alex, listen to me.” Kris said, reaching out to touch Alex on the shoulder. Alex stood up and backed away. “I said leave me be!” Alex said, beginning to sob. Then Kris grabbed Alex and kissed him deeply. Alex closed his eyes and kissed back passionately, wrapping his arms around Kris and pulling him closer. “I’m sorry about earlier, you just surprised me.” Kris said, breaking the kiss after a very, very long moment. Alex didn’t say anything, but continued to hug Kris tightly. “I’m sorry, it’s really rare, but sometimes I act before I think.” Alex said, sniffling slightly. “Well I’m glad you didn’t think this time. I never would have done anything; I was too...too...well I guess I was just afraid of you ‘saying no’ so to speak.” Kris said, faltering slightly. “Are you going to tell the others you’re gay?” Alex asked, looking up at Kris. (Kris is about a foot taller than Alex.) “Natasha has known since we were children and I made it pretty clear to Llana when she tried to kiss me last year, but I think she’s kind of in denial about that particular subject, and we just met the human, so I’m pretty sure he didn’t know before you kissed me.” Kris said, smiling and stroking Alex’s left ear. “Your eyes are beautiful.” Kris said, truly noticing Alex’s emerald green eyes for the first time. “Thank you, nobody really noticed my eyes before, or they did but didn’t really care.” Alex said, smiling slightly. “What do those two rings mean? If they mean anything that is.” Alex asked, noticing the rings on Kris’s ring and little fingers. One was made of metal, but it looked as if it was woven together. The other was a simple silver ring with a simple human skull and crossbones stamped into the metal. “The one on my ring finger was actually hand woven; it signifies the strength and loyalty of the Blood Clan people. Only members of the Blood Clan royal family may wear one. The one with the skull and crossbones on my little finger shows I’m part of the Blood Clan special forces. I’m sort of known as Blood Clan’s ‘warrior prince’” Kris said, smiling feebly. “Y-you’re a prince?! Wow, I just made out with a prince and didn’t even know it.” Alex said, smiling. “Let’s go back upstairs.” Kris said, chuckling as he led the way. When they entered the room, Natasha was smiling, which was rare for her. Llana was smiling as well, but it was obviously a fake smile. Matti looked confused and ready to change the subject. “You told him our secret, didn’t you?” Natasha asked, still smiling. “What secret?” Llana asked, her fake smile replaced with a curious look. “Oh just the fact that Kris is the famed Blood Clan ‘warrior prince’ and I’m Blood Clan’s legendary ‘shadow princess’ known for being a member of her own family’s secret police.” Natasha said with an unexpected show of emotion. “Y-your royalty?” Llana asked in disbelief. “Uh, yeah, we are.” Kris said, beginning to get embarrassed. “So are you and the fox...erm...together?” Matti asked, looking uncomfortable. “Yes we are, and the fox has a name. His name is Alex.” Kris said, leaning down and giving Alex a kiss on the side of the muzzle. Alex smiled, but the smile vanished as soon as he saw Llana, who was staring daggers at him. “We’re almost to East Clan headquarters, we should get moving.” Llana said, frowning. “You’re right, let’s get moving.” Kris said, walking back down the stairs. Alex followed him closely, his smile returning.

“There it is.” Llana said, pointing out a seemingly ruined and deserted complex of buildings. When they were about twenty feet from the entrance of the first building an extremely bored-looking German Shepherd stepped out from behind a pile of rubble. “Who knocks at the door of wisdom?” The sheppy asked, still looking bored. “One who seeks the truth in lies.” Llana replied, smiling. The German Shepherd clicked his tongue twice and a trapdoor opened in front of him. The group stepped down into the hidden doorway without a sound.

Tashi Inaren looked around the supply camp he and his team had just arrived at after the camp hadn’t responded to radio calls. “This is pathetic! Every single soldier is dead!” a Coyote with his lower jaw dyed black and hefting a M2 .50 caliber machine gun with a shortened barrel said, kicking one of the dead soldiers over. “I know that, Jericho .” Tashi said, using the Coyote’s callsign. “Sir, some of the crates have been opened, a lot of ammo is missing.” A Grey Fox said, his lower jaw also dyed black. He was carrying a suppressed FN P90. “I need specifics Saxon!” Tashi said, getting annoyed with his team’s unusual incompetence. “Night, I found some bullet casings, someone fired a 416 at these guys.” A Husky carrying an AUG HBAR with a holographic sight said, using Tashi’s callsign. (Of course his lower jaw was dyed black as well.) “That’s the kind of information we need, Fortune!” Tashi said, smiling now. Tashi ‘Night’ Inaren was a Malamute with a standard pelt, except of course his lower jaw was dyed black. He was from the mysterious land of Malaknette ( Alaska ). “Hey Night, look what I found.” Tashi’s second in command, Vice said. Pointing to something in the snow. “What is it?” Tashi asked, walking over. “Paw prints, they’re faint, but I can see they go in the direction of the city.” Vice said, kneeling down and pointing the prints out. Tashi smiled and pulled out his signature suppressed urban camouflage ACR with an ACOG scope and a grenade launcher. “Let’s go catch us some East Clan scum.” Tashi said, still smiling.

Alex looked around Kris’s room in amazement. “I can’t believe I get to stay here with you!” Alex said. The room had a bed, with an actual mattress! Kris chuckled as he stepped out of the bathroom. “You always chuckle; I don’t think I’ve ever heard you really laugh.” Alex said, smiling. “I don’t usually laugh because it’s frowned upon in my family. I guess it’s a force of habit.” Kris said, smiling. Kris had changed out of his Blood Clan honor guard uniform and into dark grey cargo pants, a light blue long sleeve shirt, and an armband with the seal of the Blood Clan royal family on it on his right arm. (The Blood Clan royal seal is a black star with a gold outline and crossed daggers in the middle of the star.) “I, um...don’t have any clothes to change into.” Alex said, smiling ruefully. “Don’t worry, We’ll go down to the supply shop and get you some non-combat clothing.” Kris said, smiling. “I don’t have any money.” Alex said. “I got you covered.” Kris said, chuckling. Alex put his weapons in the footlocker at the foot of the bed and took off his bullet-proof vest and his outer shirt. “Does this room have a shower?” Alex asked. “Yup. I know the size of the clothes I gave you, so I’ll get you some new clothes while you’re showering. I’ll also get you some new bandages for your head.” Kris said. Alex nodded and stepped into the bathroom. Alex stripped down and removed the bandages from his head. His head still hurt, but not nearly as much as it did earlier. He turned on the water and took a quick shower, mainly washing the dried blood out of his head fur. Alex found a towel and dried himself. Kris arrived moments later carrying a small pile of clothes. “Hello there.” Kris said, smiling as he looked Alex’s naked body up and down, his eyes lingering on Alex’s sheath. “You like what you see?” Alex replied, smiling devilishly. “You have no idea.” Kris said. “I think I might have an idea.” Alex said, walking over and giving Kris a kiss. Kris wrapped his arms around Alex and pulled him closer. Kris broke the kiss after a moment and motioned over to the clothes. “Take your pick. I got a lot of clothes for you.” Kris said, smiling warmly. Alex rifled through the clothes and picked a black turtleneck and a pair of urban camouflage cargo pants. “Can you help me bandage my head?” Alex asked, smiling. “Well I bandaged your head the last time, so I think I can help.” Kris said, smiling warmly. Alex found the bandages and sat on the floor in front of the bed. Kris swiftly wrapped Alex’s head and patted him on the shoulder. “You’re good to go.” Kris said standing up.

“This is bullshit.” Jericho said, surveying the burning vehicles and bodies. “Night! We’ve got a survivor!” Fortune called. Tashi ran over and saw a Husky missing half a leg with his guts hanging out. “Who did this?” Tashi asked. “East Clan patrol, they had a human with them too.” The Husky said, beginning to cough up blood. “What direction did they head in?” Tashi asked. “That way.” The Husky replied, pointing a shaking finger in a generally Easterly direction. Tashi nodded, pulled out his suppressed M1911, and shot the husky in the head. “Let’s go.” Tashi said, holstering his pistol. Tashi knew the East Clan HQ was somewhere in that direction but he didn’t know where. Then he saw something in the distance. He probably wouldn’t have seen it if it hadn’t been getting dark. He saw a building with lights. They were dimmed, but he saw them. “Broadsword this is Titan 65 requesting a lot of reinforcements at this location, over.” Tashi said, looking at his GPS and giving his coordinates. “Titan 65, explain your request, over.” Broadsword replied after a moment of silence, sounding slightly annoyed. “We may have found OPFOR headquarters, over.” Tashi said, beginning to show a smile that showed his teeth in a very menacing way. Then there was a long silence. “Titan 65...sit tight and wait for reinforcements, Broadsword out.” Broadsword replied, the eagerness in his voice was obvious. Several hours later Tashi felt the ground begin to rumble and about fifteen minutes later five Bradley armored fighting vehicles arrived along twelve troop transports of various make and model and six Hummvees specially equipped with miniguns for eliminating crowds of enemy troops. “We attack at 0330 hours. Get ready and mount suppressors on all weapons. Keep radio silence until I say otherwise.” Tashi said over the radio, smiling his menacing smile.

“Hey boss! Someone just checked in with your last name!” A young, skinny wolf called to a female fox swigging whiskey and reclining against the wall with her footpaws on the table. “What’s their name?” The female fox asked without looking up. “Ehm...an Alexei Grentskov just checked in with Kris Makanev and his group. ‘Grentskov’ is your last name, right Krystal?” The wolf replied, his face glowing from the light of a computer screen. Krystal looked up sharply, her emerald green eyes practically glowing with both suppressed joy and suspicion at the same time. Just then an explosion tore a hole in the wall beside Krystal. A klaxon began to blare along with a message: ‘proceed to escape routes immediately’. Krystal grabbed her suppressed AK-47 with a folding stock and turned to get the wolf. She was too late. The wolf was slumped in his chair with a five inch piece of shrapnel jutting out of the back of his head. Krystal cursed and ran down the three flights of stairs to the escape tunnel. She was about to enter the tunnel when she slipped and fell down the ladder. She cried out in pain and fell when she tried to stand up. She grabbed her weapon, pulled herself over to the wall of the tunnel, and sat there, watching people pass her by in dismay. Then a fox nudged her and held out his paw. “Come on! You don’t want to be here!” The fox said. “I can’t walk. I’ll just slow you down.” Krystal replied without looking up. The fox muttered something to the wolf standing behind him. “No you won’t. I’ll carry you.” The fox said. Krystal looked up and was surprised to see a pair of very familiar emerald green eyes. “Fine, but if you think I’m gonna owe you any ‘special favors’ you’re sadly mistaken.” Krystal said, taking hold of the fox’s paw. “Oh, don’t worry about that, I’m gay.” The fox said bluntly while pulling Krystal onto his back. “What’s your name?” Krystal asked, grabbing her AK-47. “Alex. This is my mate Kris.” Alex asked, motioning over to Kris. They walked for about fifteen minutes until they reached the end of the tunnel and emerged into the night. “Hey! Boss! What’re you doing on that guy’s back?” a young Husky with a guitar case slung over his back called as he walked over to them. “I hate to be the bearer of bad news...but Josh is dead.” Krystal replied, frowning. “How?!” The Husky said, cupping his paws over his muzzle. “He...uh...took a piece of shrapnel to the back of the head.” Krystal said. Tears welled up in the Husky’s eyes. “Damn it! Augh... just damn it! Oh, and I never told him how I feel! He never even knew I was gay!” The husky said, his voice breaking. Kris heard screaming and rapid gunfire to the west. “Sam...I don’t know what to say to make you feel better...so ummm...” Krystal faltered. Alex walked over and hugged Sam, patting him on the back. Sam looked bewildered for a moment, then hugged back, sobbing quietly. “We have to get out of here, don’t become bitter and do something you would regret.” Alex said, releasing Sam. “Kris! Alex! We’ve been looking all over for you!” Llana called, running over and motioning for Natasha to do the same. “Well, I don’t think there’s anywhere else we can go. Who are you guys?” Llana said, looking around and watching as Hummvees chased down exposed groups of refugees and sprayed them with miniguns. “This is Sam and...um...” Kris said, pausing. “Krystal, my name is Krystal.” Krystal said while adjusting her position on Alex’s back. “I know of a place where we could go. It’s a long way south, but North Clan avoids the place like the plague for some reason.” Alex said.
