Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿, Miyazaki Hayao?, born January 5, 1941) is a Japanese manga artist and prominent film director and animator of many popular anime feature films. Through a career that has spanned nearly five decades, Miyazaki has attained international acclaim as a maker of animated feature films and, along with Isao Takahata, co-founded Studio Ghibli, an animation studio and production company. The success of Miyazaki's films has invited comparisons with American animator Walt Disney and he has been named one of the most influential people by Time Magazine. Miyazaki's films often incorporate recurrent themes, such as humanity's relationship to nature and technology, and the difficulty of maintaining a pacifist ethic. Reflecting Miyazaki's feminism, the protagonists of his films are often strong, independent girls or young women. His films are also notable for dispensing with traditional villains in favor of morally ambiguous antagonists presented with redeeming qualities. ~wikipedia
This man has made several amazing films, and helped to popularize the manga genre in the west. What are people favorite and least favorite Miyazaki films and why?

I adore Miyazaki films, his stories are just genius and the characters can be related to so easily.
Personally my favorite films of his is Howl's Moving Castle for very personal, emotional reasons. I first saw this film two weeks after my mother's death and watching Sophie's trials and watching her grow gave me a moment of peace in such a chaotic time.
My least favorite would probably be Ponyo. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing story, but there was something lacking in it for me.

I agree but the best line ever if from Howl "what's the point in living if I can't be beautiful!" I love that the line comes from a foppish man for a change instead of typical female ditz

I simply adore the watercolour backgrounds in most of Miyazaki's films...I believe my favourite film is Spirited Away.

Totoro was the first anime I ever saw! When I was little I actually gather a bunch of acorns, pine cones, maple seeds, and beech nuts and piled them up hoping a Totoro would come and I could catch it and it would be my friend sweatdrop How sad is that! stressed gonk

First movie of his I remember watching when I was little, was Totoro. I look back, and think of how much younger I was and then come to the conclusion, that Miyazaki's movies were probably the first "anime" I had ever watched most likely. I then proceeded to watch Princess Mononoke since it was on television and was really freaked out by the old, giant boar, trampling through the forest with the blood worms. The hunters in the boar skins also freaked me out.
But my favorite has to be Howl's Moving Castle. I loved the story, I loved the characters, Turnip Head is just awesome, and I love how it's made. Every inch of it.

I saw Spirited Away first, and it blew my mind. I could not get over how spectacular it was! I immediately had to go and watch other's of his work.
Howl's Moving Castle was freaking amazing as well. I had to read the book as well, and neither disappointed. Howl is just so...Howl! I can't describe how deep my love for him goes. xd
I like pretty much every Miyazaki movie though.

The first Miyazaki film I've ever seen was spirited away. It was absolutely amazing and was my favorite movie ever, until I saw Princess Mononoke, I wanted to be Moro, she was just absolutely beautiful along with her two sons.
