It's time to edjewmakate you fools.
First, you CAN. NOT. HACK. GAIA. ACCOUNTS.
You CAN'T. HACKING implies getting passwords from Gaia's database.
If you got 'hacked', you got SCAMMED. NOT hacked.
Now, ways you probably got scammed:
- Phishing.
Phishing is when you enter your username password on either a fake website or a fake program. A common example is a site that tells you it's a "gold generator". When you enter your username/password, the ONLY thing that happens is that your information gets send to a .txt file for the host to read, and then login to your account. You got SCAMMED because you fell for their trick and logged in, thinking you'd get something out of it.
Another example is if you downloaded a program, maybe a fake "bot" or something, that asked for your password. When you hit a certain button on the program, it sent that information to the hosts' EMAIL address. It's VERY easy to make a program like this in Visual Basic.
-Keylogged
A lesser-known (lesser known because it's pretty advanced, and most 'hackers' are 14 year old noobs that think they are 'l33t hackers' because they send phishing links around that only dumbasses fall for) method of hacking is keylogging. This is when a 'keylogger' is attached to a file that you download onto your computer that you think is something else. For example, I could send you a program and it does NOT ask for your username or password, so you think you're safe! WRONG. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD TO GET SCAMMED! A keylogger will hide itself on your computer as a virus and it records EVERY keystroke you type into your keyboard, and sends it via e-mail to the host. So if I sent you a keylogger that I created, it'd show me EVERYTHING you typed on your keyboard, what sites you went to, ect. I'd easily get your username/password for this.
- PM/comment scams.
The common 12 year old "l33t hax0r" will try to use this method, and unfortunately some other 12 year old "l33t dumbasses" fall for the trick. They say that for some reason they are a member of the Gaia staff and need your username/password (and sometimes more details) for some odd reason that they made up. UNLESS IT'S LANZER OR "ADMIN", DO NOT TRUST IT. IT'S ******** FAKE.
So, you did NOT get your account hacked. You got your account SCAMMED. Because you were a dumbass somewhere down the line, and put your password in something stupid or downloaded a fake program that had a hidden keylogger attached to it.

You might be right, but some gaians may not know this, so how can they be dumb if they didn't know it was a scam in the first place? neutral
