------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------
WHO: Kael & Kiwi, Daichi & Noctis
WHERE: Noctis' bar and grill
WHEN: Shortly after dusk
WEATHER: Cloudy with a light drizzle
------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ "Oof," a soft voice came as a young woman opening the door collided with the nearby wall. Over her shoulder was a back pack, seeming heavy and with a round object inside laying against the bottom to weigh it down. Sighing, she closed the door behind her and began making her way inside.
Ahh, bars. She didn't normally go to them though she did dabble in alcohol from time to time. Still, she wasn't actually here for herself, though she would no doubt partake. A whine from her stomach assured this.
Dusk had only come a short time ago and the night life hadn't quite started up yet. The bar was far from deserted but it wasn't packed, either; empty tables dotted the scene like lonely beacons beckoning for someone, anyone, to sit at them and sit she did, setting her bag into one of the chairs nearest the wall. Leaning in, she unzipped the top and peeked in, seeming to talk to herself under her breath for just a moment before zipping it up once more and heading to the bar proper.
"Hi," she started off promptly, leaning her arms against the counter, "Can I get two orders of chicken wings--no sauce--and a beer? Whatever's cheapest," she scoffed at herself, puffing air out of the corner of her mouth to move a piece of hair from one of her eyes. The wings, when they arrived, would get tucked neatly into the backpack and then, no doubt, promptly devoured by the thing sitting inside, perhaps bones and all. The bones were brittle anyway, so it probably didn't matter to the thing's stomach, not in the least.
All Kiwi knew was that she had to feed it-- her --and often.
Inside, the demon uttered a soft growl, drowned out immediately by the music playing within the bar. The noise was an annoyance, but it wasn't terrible. What was, however, was being restricted to the dark confines of a bag and being sat uncomfortably in a chair. Kael didn't approve of that one bit, but there was something else going on here.
This place smelled familiar, though she knew she had never been here before. Something in the air, something... sad. Something like water. Salt water.
Tears.
Her lips parted into what could be construed as a grin, revealing shark-like teeth if only to herself. There was another one in here, somewhere. Another one like herself. She could not tell how long they had been here or if they had already gone, but they had been here before and it was making her little black heart race.

Daichi was dressed as a bartender-- temporarily. Noctis wasn't happy about bringing the demon to work but he couldn't very well leave Daichi at home or to wander nearby. He didn't trust the clueless demon not to get himself kidnapped by Iclair once again--- Noctis recalled the name with distaste. But he couldn't deny that Daichi was shaping up to be quite the useful employee. He knew his way around liquids and how to make the best combination, picking up the tricks of the job within a short time period.
Daichi was the bartender that the young lady placed her order to, cleaning cups when the order was placed. Cyan blue eyes examined the customer curiously for only a moment before relaying the order to the cook in back. The beer came out with a soft "clank" on the counter towards the female. He didn't hand over the drink however.
He leaned forward, sniffing curiously. "I smell a strange scent on you. Could it be that you're like Noctis?"
Before the young lady could answer, one could see an irritable bartender with glasses pulling Daichi back by the cuff of his collar, the odd interaction witnessed by the bartender that stood by the other side.
"Daichi-- How many times do I tell you, you do not ask a customer inappropriate questions." His tone was laced with impatience and exasperation, pulling the seemingly young bartender away from Kiwi. "You dont go around sniffing people!" Noctis said in a low mutter, pulling Daichi by the ear in a painful manner. "What, do I have to add that as another rule to your lesson plan?"

The bartender seemed normal at first, kind of cute really with his swept black hair and body type. She gave him a quick glance over as she ordered, leaning against the bar, but then he leaned in, too, and her neck craned back.
...Did... did he just sniff her?
"I smell a strange scent on you."
Making a face, she looked down at herself. She had a shower yesterday. Oh s**t, she forgot to put deodorant on, didn't she. Her expression turned from concerned to annoyed, pale cheeks gaining a pink tint as she turned her head away from Daichi and sinking so that most of her face was covered by her crossed arms on the bar.
"Could it be that you're like Noctis?"
Her eyes shifted back to the young man, the look of irritation still present but now mixed with confusion. "What're you-- but another man quickly rounded the corner and interrupted what could barely be considered a conversation, and Kiwi shot up to a taller stance, watching the younger get pulled away by his superior. Perhaps this behavior was normal from him? Maybe one of those whackjobs who were socially inept so they just said the first thing that came to mind without any filter.
...Oh wait, that was like her.
Seething, she let out a huff and called over to the two, "Can I get my order or what?!" Some service they were showing. She probably wouldn't bother coming here again if this was how the employees were going to act right in the open. Sure, it was a bar so it wasn't expected to be classy by any means, but this was just poor service. Normally it wouldn't bother her this much, but time was of the essence.
When she got hungry... there was hell to pay.
And inside the back pack, Kael was getting increasingly more famished. She always was, after all. Her levels of hunger never included 'satiated' for more than an hour and 'full' simply wasn't in her vocabulary. Kiwi had to wonder just where she put it all, but it's not like it mattered. It was easy to see she wasn't dealing with something of the natural world, something from the darkness that the church would constantly preach about. She never did understand any of it, not that she listened much, but now that she was under a contract with one she felt she understood even less.
She had always thought it was a metaphor for the evil in the world that was locked in the human heart.
"I really don't have time to wait," she said curtly to both bartender's, brown eyes flicking back to the pack with her perpetually hungry imp wriggling inside. She was starting to get restless, Kael, and if she wasn't fed soon then she might come out of her zipped up cage...

"Oh right. Your order's coming up." Noctis said distractedly, leaving the assistant bartender with his ears intact. For the moment. Daichi was rubbing his reddened ears with a wince, knees bent to avoid Noctis's searing gaze. Noctis sent Daichi a look that plainly said to shut up as he disappeared into the kitchen. Moments later, he walked out with her order, a can and two full plates sitting in front of the customer.
Daichi's expression was unusually alert, considering that Daichi's nature wasn't usually the most perceptive or intuitive of demons. He was.. lacking .. in typical demon personalities.
"B--But Noctis. She has an imp on her!" He whispered urgently, at least understanding the fact that demons wasn't a conversation that could use one's regular volume of voice. Daichi tried to keep his expression casual but the smell was unmistakable now. It floated around, obvious. Well, obvious to Daichi. Obviously, it wasn't as apparent to a normal human sense of smell. (Well, why would it be?)
Noctis turned around with an intense stare, the interest in his eyes impossible to hide. With a glance to the kitchen, he glanced back to the female customer in front of him, pondering, silent for a moment. ".. Are you sure you wouldn't prefer to go to the back and eat?" He offered, pointing a thumb to the slightly open door.
Running into another contractor.. perhaps? If so, what incredible luck.

Nodding to the bartender, her eyes still narrowed and her face was set into a light scowl. Patience was wearing thin and so was Kael's. Finally, it seemed they returned with her order as it precisely was and she merely nodded her thanks, crooking the can beneath one of her arms while picking up the two plates of wings that appeared quite full to bursting.
Hopefully they both satiated Kael some while she, herself, merely had a meal full of liquid bread. Not that she minded beer, quite the opposite in fact, but if she had bothered to order herself any Kael would likely have protested and demanded them, doused in sauce or not.
Kiwi turned away from the table, no longer paying the two men any mind and headed for her seat. Her pace quickened, face flickering from stony to worried as the back pack in her saved seat twitched slightly. Inside, Kael was rocking, impatiently putting her jaws around things to perhaps fend off the hunger just long enough until her return. Setting the items down, she began pulling the chair out when the assistant bartender spoke up again, and his request was absurd.
"Excuse me?" she turned to glare at him, knuckles going white as she gripped the back of the chair. She didn't have time for this. And what a weird request! There were plenty of chairs out here and she felt more comfortable that there was the odd individual around, especially to see this weird behavior.
She couldn't put her finger on it but there was something off about him, too. It wasn't quite a foreboding feeling such as Kael gave off just by being near her, but a sort of lingering sadness though the man did not appear sad in any way. Except perhaps that messy black hair of his, what a weird style genre people had these days.
Whatever it was, she wasn't liking it and Kael offered another jostle of the bag in protest as well. And then another to tell Kiwi to stop screwing around and feed her already.
"Angel..." she kept her voice low to a raspy growl, only the ears of contractors and demons able to detect. "Food... Now."
Kiwi let out a sigh and looked around. From the volume of her voice when responding to Daichi's odd suggestion, a few people were looking at her, likely wondering if there was going to be some sort of fight or other disturbance. She couldn't feed Kael with people looking, and she glared at as many of them as she could see. "Is it that goddamn interesting?" she huffed, brushing her bangs out of her face and pulling the backpack over one shoulder, returning the beer to her under arm and bringing the plates with her back to the bar. "Where?" she demanded through clenched teeth, frustration written all over her face. She could feel her tiny imp writhing with equal annoyance against her back but it wouldn't be much longer now.
She certainly wasn't going to be bringing Kael to a public place to feed her again if she could help it.

Now the customer was scowling and staring at them as if they were crazy. Sheesh. You'd think that common people would be a little more perceptive-- Their slow minds were quite the nuisance. But while he could explain this situation elementary style for her mediocre mind capabilities, he knew that it wasn't the time for it. Noctis sighed inwardly, making a hand gesture that there was nothing for the crowd to see.
Several interested eyes remained on them, disappointed by the closing door, other eyes turned away and back to their meals or drinks.
Noctis motioned for the bartender on the other side to take care of the bar for now, shaking his head at Daichi as the assistant walked into the back without a thought for the work he was supposed to do. (Not much of a work ethic. But human work was tedious and unappealing to Daichi anyways.)
The back opened up to a spacious area leading to two rooms. They walked through the kitchen to a smaller and more private storage room, pointing for the customer to sit on the chair in the storage room.
"You can feed your imp now!" Daichi said helpfully once the door was closed behind him. The assistant bartender seemed to have more than an appropriate amount of excitement as he pointed towards the customer's bag. "We get real hungry so I understand how hungry she must be." He referred to Kael, taking a seat on one of the chairs in the back.
"We've also got lots of food!" Daichi volunteered enthusiastically before getting pulled back by the entering bartender, Noctis. "To feed your kind's of monstrous appetites? Oh no. No." Noctis said firmly, his personality much less affable than his contracted demon's one. He sighed exasperatedly, reflecting that Daichi was his biggest source of stress rather than help.
"Let's introduce ourselves before you get more confused by Daichi here. He's a fully grown demon and I'm a contractor. End of story." Noctis said curtly, dragging out a chair to seat himself. "And you were forced into here because Daichi doesn't understand the meaning of being indiscreet."

Once inside with her backpack, she was starting to question her logic for agreeing to something like this. Easily she could have grabbed the trays of wings, her beer, the pack back concealing Kael and left after paying to feed the imp in an alley way and not have to deal with more people. She felt pretty stupid about it all but as long as they left her alone, she supposed it wouldn't be a big deal.
Of course, it seemed that the two men were not interested in leaving her to her own devices. Had she not brought Kael with her, she might have felt more uneasy but with a monster like her tucked away in her bag, all she felt was annoyance and frustration.
And then, the younger of the two men piped in cheerfully, speaking as though he knew her exact situation; imp, her, hungry, and did he say 'we'? Kiwi's eyes widened at Daichi, though her brows were still knit into an angry expression. How was this possible? How could he know when she hadn't told a soul and had been so careful? Inside the bag, Kael let out a low rumble to announce her presence, though it was muted alongside the two men bickering.
Now one of them wanted introductions and Kiwi nearly objected but the words 'demon' and 'contractor' were used and her expression softened to one of confusion. "Contractor?" she repeated, glancing at Daichi and then her bag. Her mouth contorted into a thin line of frown and her eyes locked with Noctis, looking frustrated once more. "Hold on, you expect me to believe that he's a demon?" she pointed to Daichi without giving him a glance, "He looks like a human! Nothing like Kael!" As much as she wanted to know what their contract was, there were more important things to ask and understand first.
Growing impatient, Kael gnawed at the zipper and pulled it down from the small gap it left when closed, rendering some of the clips unusable. Once a decent sized hole was made Kael wriggled free and let out a sickening plop as she fell to the floor and Kiwi cursed, holding tightly to the chair she now sat in. The imp's beady eyes scanned Noctis, quickly grew bored and then examined Daichi. Her vertical mouth flared its fangs, "Demon...?" she slobbered, rolling herself towards him as though she wanted to be lifted. His scent was coated in darkness, just like her own, unlike the pure smell of humans and the stench of light radiating off of those damn churches and clergy. Kael felt her stomach protest not having eaten yet and her jaws split open, her long tongue lashing out and knocking the plates of wings onto the floor, promptly rolling around the assortment of small drum sticks and flats, gobbling them down, crunched bones and all.

Noctis sat on the chair with his legs folded, a strangely sized lollipop entered his mouth before he began talking. He absorbed her questions, deducing that the other must be a new contractor to not yet know the details. Of course, if those "dark nights" were still going on, they'd be getting a couple of new contractors every-so-often. Hm. Interesting.
"He's a fully grown demon. Yours is just an imp for now-- hence the weird shapes. Don't worry, Daichi was just a blue tear drop with a pitifully pathetic look on his face. He still hasn't improved himself." Noctis was getting side-tracked. He returned to the original topic at hand, leaning against the back of his chair. "They can take human forms though-- I suppose it's some sort of protective instinct, to blend among the population today. Amazing, isn't it? I'm keenly interested in the process of transformation myself but no luck finding that out." Noctis explained, his tone matter-of-fact and talking with experience.
How long had he had Daichi now?
.. He didn't remember.
But one thing was for sure. They had a long enough relationship to berate each other. That spoke for something.
Daichi, at the moment, was sitting near Kael, one hand plucking stray food strewn across the ground by Kael's long tongue and offering it to the hungry imp, his hand still a careful distance away from those deadly teeth. He was chuckling over the imp's antics, a reminder of himself as an imp where the world seemed so large. Where his contractor had been his only safe heaven.. even if his contractor had a short temper. "Are you happy, little imp?"

Everything the bar tender was saying to her was quickly going in one ear, whizzing around and then exploding out the other. None of it made any sense to her, not that Kael's very existence did either, but it was easier for her to go off of "oh, she's a demon" and just leave it at that then have all of this information flung at her. Maybe she was a simpleton sometimes but this rush of information certainly would be hard to stick in her mind.
"So wait, wait," she held her hands up quickly, trying to get Noctis to stop talking and feeding her more information she doubted she would retain. "You're saying that she's gonna look human?" her mind rushed for an image, anything to rationalize that suggestion, but all that came to mind was a woman with large gnashing teeth and various mouths all over her body and she shuddered, closing her eyes tight. "I don't know if I want her to..." her eyes drifted over to Daichi and Kael, the older of the two cleaning up after the imp.
Kael's mouth remained slightly open, a soft growl perpetually escaping her, almost like a purr. Her tongue drifted out, leathery and wet, stroking against Daichi's fingers to clean up the rest of the food. As far as meat went, she wasn't particularly impressed by the meager portions of the wings, small as they were, and there was more bone than meat, but the taste was unique and meat was meat. She would tell Kiwi later not to get them again, sticking with steaks and sausages was probably best, but the white meat was interesting.
Uttering a different pitch of growl in response to Daichi, her tongue flew back into her mouth before caressing her jaws, dribbles of slobber pooling in front of her. "Kael... Still Hungry," she introduced herself and answered in the same breath, beady black eyes locked on Daichi before shifting to her contractor. "More," she hissed, a growl following not from her throat but from her stomach.
Sighing, Kiwi rubbed her eyes and turned back to look at Noctis, "Do you guys have anything, like... raw? I think she likes that better." At the 'r' word, a bubble of saliva slipped past Kael's teeth, proving this fact.
"Daichi feed..." the brown blob of an imp turned back to her senior, at least in form, and her vertical mouth split into a wretched grin. There was something about this one, perhaps that he, too, was a demon and there was a kinship but other things Kael could not rationalize or place drew her to him. It could have just been as simple as the gesture of helping her eat the remnants but it struck a cord with her. Daichi was good.

... Commoners. What good was a brain if you couldn't process the information fast enough? And the way she paused--how vulgar. At least she wasn't as bad as Jack. The reminder of the other contractor brought a grimace to his expression.. along with a hint of.. something else. Something Noctis wouldn't prefer to identify. But if he had to .. It might be nostalgia? But he couldn't be nostalgic for Jack. No, it was for Duke. Even now, Noctis wouldn't label Jack as good enough for Duke.
Damn, he missed that mischevious imp. A faint memory fo the imp slamming itself into the door brought a faint crooked smile to the corner of Noctis's lips.
"I'm not saying she's going to. I'm just telling you what I've observed so far. Of course, imps don't come by that often so it's hardly enough evidence to make any sort of substantial conclusion." Obviously, you couldn't just come out and say you had an imp. "Although it is a high possibility, looking at Daichi and the masked male who often appears at dark nights." Noctis explained, assuming that the female before him had met the masked man before. Although it wasn't sure who the cloaked stranger was, it was appropriate to conclude that he wasn't entirely human.
Daichi was absorbed in the little imp's antics, a smile crossing his human expression. Even in this form, he hadn't lost the jester marks placed under his eyes, giving him a circus look. "Kael. You've got quite the appetite." Daichi remarked, pulling out a package of premium meet from the fridge, unwrapping it as he spoke. Soon, Daichi's hand was extended towards Kael, small bits of bite sized meat laid damp in his hand.
"You did too. Just for tofu though." Noctis sought fit to insert into the conversation, eying the meat-consuming imp with a wary gaze. Wary but interested. "Interesting. I'd like to see her demon form if it comes to pass. But giving her a fully scientific examination might be better.." Noctis mumbled, eyes alert and almost shining, giving a very different impression from the grumpy bartender from before. The soul of a scientist, as he might term it. "Might I be able to convince you to come back if she does happen to mature? Or an examination?" Noctis asked Kiwi, struggling to turn his gaze back to her.
"An offer such as.. unlimited meat? Or at least until Kael's satisfied?"

It was all pretty confusing to her, but with the attitude the man seemed to be coping, however hidden, she decided it best to just feign understanding. If it weren't for the beastly imp beside her, she might have cussed the guy out for not making any damn sense, but she was the ignorant one, whether she would admit to it or not.
"What masked guy on dark nights?" she took the term 'dark night' literally, as a night that was dark, plain and simple. Unlike any other contractor you would come about, Angelique "Kiwi" Wulfrig had not gone through the proper channels. She knew nothing of Kael's previous situation except that she appeared to be starving and the brown imp seemed intent on not speaking of it, preferring to use her limited vocabulary to further her meals.
To Daichi's words, Kael gave a shivering purr, beady eyes locked on the cold and packaged meat he pulled free of the cold box she recognized from Kiwi's apartment. The meat of other demons was not appealing, and so she took care as she reached her tongue out to scoop up the bit of meat, to not scrape Daichi's fingers with her teeth. Being hand fed like this was certainly a treat, something she was unused to. Kiwi did it occasionally, and the other... well, he wasn't around anymore anyway.
At the mention of something called 'tofu', Kael's eyes flickered to Noctis for the first time, having largely ignored his presence until then (Daichi was far more interesting, of course). "What is...?" If a demon liked it, chances were it was delicious, succulent and meaty. Her mouth watered at the thought and she let out a mewling growl as she quickly turned back to Daichi's hand, swallowing the next bit of meat he had for her.
Kiwi's brows knit as Noctis continued musing aloud, clearly not talking to her anymore but at her, which was becoming frustrating. If he said something that went over her head and she questioned it, she'd look stupid to him but if she just let it pass without a question she would feel stupid and then still look stupid in the long run. Giving a grumbling sigh, she leaned forward and rested her chin in her hand, looking thoroughly uninterested. At least, until the question of returning was presented. "Wha...you want me to come back?"
Examination was the next word used and she didn't like the sound of that. Glancing to the growling, drooling mass who had promised to be her constant companion if only she were to be fed at an almost constant rate, the very idea of letting her being examined (perhaps more accurately 'experimented') with a scientific gaze seemed blasphemous to their agreement, their promise, their contract.
Noctis sent the offer home with two simple words; unlimited meat.
Before Kiwi even opened her mouth to reply, Kael whipped around and lashed her tongue out in excitement, throwing spittle and tiny meat chunks in Noctis' direction. "Unlimited! Satisfied! Yes!"
Growling and bringing her palm to her face, Kiwi directed the conversation back to herself, holding her hands out defensively to the bartender. "Look, I'll come back, especially for unlimited meat for her, but you're not gonna go poking and prodding her with knives or anything, right? We're not talking, like, lab mice sort of exams or premature autopsies?" My she had a vivid imagination.

When Kiwi asked what Dark Nights were, Noctis was thoroughly surprised. And then he remembered Kael-- why the rolling imp seemed so familiar to him. She must have been the quiet demon in the corner on the first round of Dark Nights, having gone to the contractor who sought murder. The murder of twenty, if Noctis remembered right. That brought memories flooding back in and a new realization hit him. Kael, originally with Ride, was now with another contractor? Did that mean Kael had left.. or did the other contractor die first? Or perhaps, he hadn't kept up his end of the contract? .. Interesting. The possible conclusions could only be answered by Kael herself.
"Dark Nights are nights when demons are contracted. But it seems like you've gotten Kael through a different method. Unusual." He remarked, staring down to gaze at the red imp with acute interest, tapping his fingers on the table. He had a horrid habit of being brief and minimally informative. But it wasnt like Noctis had a large amount to give either.
Daichi, on the other hand, was coddling the younger imp by feeding her.
"You've never tried tofu, Kael?"
Seeing her apparent interest in his most highly regarded food, he proudly out a small box from the fridge. Daichi gently ripped off the plastic, opening the white jelly-like substance towards Kael, the white block jiggling back and forth. (It was definitely not meaty, delicious or succulent. So she would discover.)
Noctis, on the other hand, seeing that Kael's attentions were tended to by Daichi, nodded to Kiwi. "No, not at all. Not like those ridiculously unreasonable shows. I'd get my own hand bitten off if I even thought of trying that-- no, just a few tests to examine her intelligence, her strength.. Think of it as a doctor examining and making sure all her specific functions are in order. I'll be making notes on the way, naturally, but it'll be short and simple. Provided that she cooperates." Noctis stated smoothly, pleased that the imp and the contractor seemed receptive to his offer.
Meat wouldn't hurt Noctis's budget. Especially since there were leftovers on slow nights like these.

By Noctis' explanation, it seemed that Dark Nights were a somewhat common place affair, if not widely known about in an underground sort of way. Daichi was confirmed to be a demon as well, by his words (though she had a difficult time believing this by appearances alone) and there were bound to be others out there in situations similar to her own. At the same time, it was unusual for a contract to be made in the way she and Kael formed theirs, which caused Kiwi to pout with uncertainty.
Did that some how make their contract less respectable or valid? She couldn't be sure, but Kael appeared to not be bothered by the implications of the conversation or even listening at all as Daichi reached into the fridge once more. In fact, as soon as he brought out the strange new substance, all of Kael's senses dulled except for sight and smell, she nearly stopped breathing at the prospect of this new food that must have been delicious and succulent and meaty, what else would demons eat?
Even as the white piece of jelly wiggled before her and held little scent, she opened her mouth to allow the other demon to hand feed her this 'tofu'.
Kiwi covered her mouth with her hand, wincing as a flash of memory reached her: she had left for work one day early on in their contract, just a few days after it had been made and forgot to mention that she would be at work. When she returned home, the kitchen was a mess and one of her couches and a table had nearly been destroyed, among other disheveled parts of her apartment and all Kael said was "oh" when the situation had been explained. If Kael realized too late that tofu was not, in fact, delicious as she no doubt pictured it and was not meat, would she throw a fit like she had from being left alone?
Noctis' words distracted her from these thoughts, and calmed her. It seemed reasonable in that instance, and she nodded, taking a more proper posture in her seat. "That should be fine... But if the tests get too weird for either of us, we're stopping. She says 'no', it's no." She was, after all, speaking with a complete stranger and stranger danger was a prominent fear, but Kael could more than stick up for herself, couldn't she?

"Of course. Once examinations stop, my offer will be suspended as well-- but it's a fairly decent offer for the time being." Noctis agreed, leaning back into his seat. He lifted his arms behind his head, finally glancing down at the pair of demons on the floor together. "That seems to signal the end of our discussion. I've got to get back tending to the bar in a couple of minutes and drag this slacker with me. He's still in the process of learning how to function in human society since I can't leave him alone in the house." He sighed, exasperated, waving his hand in dismissal, not necessarily dismissing her from the room but signaling his own exit. But it was a good kind of exasperation, hints of a real smile under that condescending frown of his.
Daichi fifn't seem to realize the possibly impending danger that Kael might pose-- but there was no doubt he would somehow have to stop it, or Kiwi would, if she didn't want to pay the damages. Nor would Noctis allow his precious bar overturned merely because an imp's whims wasn't satisfied.
Hence why Daichi went through rigorous obedience training as a imp. Noctis wasn't your nicest tamer and Daichi hadn't been a imp who stood up for himself often. All was well as long as he had gotten his tofu.
"I'll see you soon Kael." Daichi held out his hand with one last chunk of meat following the tofu. He tipped his head to give Kael a crooked smile, chin resting in hand.

The tofu touched Kael's tongue, gelatinous glob in the place of meat, and though she quickly pulled it within her maw and chewed it quickly, the result was a low, grating snarl as she lashed her tongue out to try and get the taste off. That was definitely not meat, it was by no means succulent and it was far from delicious!
If Kiwi had tried to give her that, she would have bitten her hand off and broken the contract then and there, but Daichi was a demon too! How could he stand to eat something like that? There was no flavor, not really, just texture and it felt like congealed fat which caused Kael's lips to raise in a sneer.
The humans were still talking but the matter didn't concern the imp; she would be getting unlimited meat for some time and getting to come back and spend time with a fellow demon! Whatever other details were present mattered not to her and she cast a beady glance at Daichi as he held out the last bit of meat with the words "I'll see you soon".
Without question, she lapped up the bloody chunk and gave a warm purr from deep within her small body, but then he stood and began to depart, throwing Noctis a terrible glare for having interrupted them and taken the precious feeding demon from her grasp.
Kiwi wasn't stopping them, she had nodded along with everything else Noctis said. As long as he wasn't going to hurt Kael (and she and the imp herself would be the judges of that when the time came), then there would be no problems and their agreement would stand. Besides, with the promise of near unlimited meat, it seemed like the two of them were winning out more than Noctis when all he wanted in exchange was, essentially, information.
"Thanks, guys, we'll show ourselves out," she said absentmindedly, reaching down to pick Kael up and gently return her to her seat in the back pack. Going back out into the main area would be embarrassing so they would try to find a back door first.
The imp's voice, lower, huskier than usual, poured out from her gritted teeth, "More demons," and that was that. Though not a part of their contract, it now seemed within her best interest to find more of Kael's species for her to interact with and if that would keep the imp from destroying more of her furniture, then so be it.
