prop 8 was deemed unconstitutional today in california. It's a good day for equality here!!! Now, the issue is likely to go to the supreme court, but yay for one more step in the right direction!!

I am wondering still if anyone who read the actual bible (unchanged scripture to american standards) will defend this ruling, as there are more sinning chiristians than they realize, so how would it differ from this one 'sin' from what they do?
Also still wondering if Utah will then be allowed to reinstate the old mormon law for multiple life partners like they had, since in the bible, marriage isn't defined as one and one, but also one and many.

well, not if they can side-step certain scriptures for their own benefit? I'm not sure, but they're all very adamant on the "man shall not lie with man"- but hell, if we want to take things literally, that's sex and not marriage. And that means that women are fine lying with women [as far as that particular passage goes, not referring to others]. And hell, men can have relations with men as long as they're not lying down, so if they want to read into things literally let them read away. Though, I'm not sure about the particular passages that refer to marriage, my pastor was sure to give an ENTIRE sermon one day on the basis of a biblical marriage or whatever, and you can bet he jabbed at same-sex unions in that sermon.

i don't understand why there are other states that have already allowed same sex marriages and yet this california one is a national issue. i mean, i guess we've been debating about it since prop 22 however many years ago, but geez, how stubborn can people get?! oh, but--since we're talkin on a national level it seems--i did read that apparently obama is against gay marriage but pro gay equality (which, to me only makes sense if he's against it on a personal level but pro on a political level, in which case he is allowed to contradict himself i suppose)
but honestly, i say we as the gay community should organize. we need to start shoving in their faces the problems with people using the bible against us and the clear inequality of not allowing us to marry. civil unions are NOT the same. we need to start proposing absurd laws such as "prop x: stay together for the kids" for all those assholes who say that we're wrong for wanting love while their divorcing and throwing it away! maybe if people realized how ridiculous they are being by perverting their precious bibles and using them, not for the benefit of mankind but for their own personal comfort, they would finally realize that separation of church and state is around for a reason!
...sorry, i'm really worked up over this right now, though. i'm having an extremely gay day now that i'm back home and able to flaunt my homosexuality without getting into stupid arguments with close-minded family.

I see where you're coming from, and I was having the same feeling. But sometimes, no matter how much we show them the discrepancies in their rationale, they still insist that they're right. Deep down, the traditions of their religion insist that homosexuality is jut wrong, and they'll fight and argue with us and not budge no matter how wrong they are. I come from the church where the maker of prop 22 frequented, so I see it first-hand. My school is named after the main man of prop 22. And yet, the GSA at that school is one of the most active clubs on campus! So, all over California the issue is up in the air, cos there are a good lot of people that see that it should be legal, and there are those that are stubborn and stick to their religious idea of the aspect.
And when it goes to the supreme court, we can only hope that they'll analyze it correctly, based on it's constitutionality, and that they'll leave their religious or personal views outside the court.
