Amidst the rolling hills within Radernok Plains is the compound of the Mercenary League. The Beyon Empire is the primary sponsor of the mercenaries, and makes such extensive use of their services that half the Imperial Army consists of paid mercenaries recruited from the wilderness regions and less traveled areas of Revres.

Security
Key and Small Circle Symbols

Perimeter security is tight, the entire area is fenced off, ten thousand volts constantly running through the fence to keep intruders at bay. Secret monitoring stations are kept at ground level, detecting visual, infrared, heat, anomalies. Each station has an automatic laser and projectile turret and alarm system to stall off any threat until those in authority can deal with it. In some places the perimeter is mined to prevent unauthorized intrusion via sappers. Only league members know where to look for these mine fields. There are manned gun towers at every corner and every 100 meters, each with an NPC guard trained to fire a high caliber machine gun and rain grenades on the first sign of unauthorized intrusion. These guards are all capable soldiers.

Once inside, there is additional security for the main compound. Automated turrets with advanced aiming protocols protect the lobby, and will not fire upon anyone who has access to the league. There is also a manned security checkpoint at the door, and another behind the lobby desk.

CHU Area
Containerized Housing Units

CHUs are moderately-sized metallic buildings designed to hold four personnel semi-comfortably. There is a bed and two lockers per person; any further furnishings such as desks and chairs must be provided by the person living there. There are community latrines and shower areas located throughout the CHU area (separated into male and female latrines). Novice Mercenaries (Private through Lance Corporal) bunk four to a room. Corporal through Master Sergeant, and 2nd Lieutenant through Lieutenant Colonel bunk two to a room. First Sergeant or Colonel and above bunk one to a room. The CHU row closest to Research and Development is reserved for crew members (security level four or higher), and each has its own bathroom with shower.

Departmental Complex

All departments, from Intelligence to Criminal Justice, make their home in this complex. (The only exception being Research and Development, whose needs are too dangerous to allow them to share an area with the others.) Each room is specifically designed to accommodate the needs of that department. There are two sets of stairs and an elevator that lead underground to the War Room.

MWR
Morale, Welfare, and Recreation

The MWR building has all the comforts of home. Sofas, TVs, computers with Internet access (heavily monitored, of course), movie theaters, restaurants, clothing and other misc. shops, electronics stores, and a game room, complete with hands-on games like ping-pong and pool, and all the latest video game consoles (Wii, XboX 360, PS3.)

DFac
Dining FACility or Chow Hall

The dining facility has space to seat the entire League twice over. The food is free to all members of the League...but sometimes leaves something to be desired. Usually taste. Yet the food is high in nutritional content, and occasionally tastes like what it's advertised to be.

Commissary

For those who can't...stomach the food at the Dining Facility, the Commissary offers more...substantial-tasting food at...reasonable prices. Some of the more popular food the commissary offers is the fresh sushi, and the ready-to-grill steaks. The commissary also sells little comforts, like magazines and chewing gum.

Park

Carefully gardened (and enhanced by R&D's plant advancement research projects), the park offers fresh air and greenery to those who want to get a little sunlight and a place to stretch their legs. Litter is heavily monitored, so the area stays very clean. A force field is activated over the park when rain comes down, keeping the area free of mud.

R&D Compound
Research and Development/Department of Magic

The largest building above ground on the complex, this area serves as a testing ground for the Research and Development department, as well as an area recently converted for use for the Department of Magic. It's lack of proximity to more populated areas of the base is important; the type of experiments and inventions that are being tested in there could cause significant widespread harm if used carelessly.

Detention Center
The Department of Criminal Justice

A large holding cell complex used to detain intruders and violators of Mercenary League Code. The cells are not strictly iron bars, as magical seals and force fields are also utilized to keep in even the most powerful or clever of detainees.

War Room

This massive building beneath the departments compound is used for mass meetings or strategy sessions. It is equipped with enough space to hold the entire League's forces with room to spare, an event that would only take place during an Omega-level alarm.

TOC
Tactical Operations Command

A secret area, accessible only by those with a level four or higher security clearance.

It is dark. Very dark. As the League members strumble with flashlights and fireball spells trying to make their way through the darkened Command Center, the leaders of the Mercenary League, headed by Wielder and Gear, are in Tactical Operations Command, discussing the possibility of a traitor.

A strange sleep fell over the entire compound, and everyone in it woke up in random locations outside of their sleeping quarters. They were in their own personal battle gear, regardless of what they were wearing when they fell asleep, and were locked in the League Compound with no power, all the doors sealed, and no way out.

"You two figure out what you've found," Gear said to two of his crewmates, who seemed to have discovered some kind of magical disturbance. I need to check out this control panel." He entered the small room that housed the main power circuits for the compound and illuminated it with Back-Pack's xenon lamps. "Let's see, this conduit's damaged beyond repair. I'll need supplies and..."

The last bit was a little hard to hear. However, it kind of sounded like a swear word. Gear never really swore, so perhaps everyone just misheard? No one had much time to think about it. The control room exploded violently. The shockwave of intense heat and power disabled everyone's hearing, leaving a ringing in their ears as people were strewn about. The TOC was left in ruins, walls blown through, the table and projector destroyed, the main power router was practically vaporized.

Gear was sent flying through multiple walls, being at ground zero of the explosion. He finally landed in the war room, set in a Gear-shaped crater in the wall, passed out. His right arm looked mangled, and was dripping with blood and bone. He had a severe open fracture of the humorous, and possibly multiple fractures in other locations as well.

Before anyone could get to him, however, his body faded away, disappearing from where it was. A strange magical signal was left behind, but it was too weak to trace a source or destination. Gear was gone.

K` the warrior

Omnipresent Krampus

PostPosted: Thu Aug 05, 2010 9:55 pm

In the midst of the dark room, K' was poking through random stuff. Being no mechanical whiz himself, he didn't understand what most of the machines in that room did. He had a very limited knowledge as to how to operate each of them and he was sure he could get better at it if only he had the time to mess around with them. But right now was not the time, obviously.

K' had recently been awakened by the sound of voices around him. He wasn't as surprised about it as when he realized he had his battle gear on, which pretty much consisted of his ordinary clothes along with his leather boots and gloves, pauldrons and his cape. Heck, he even had his greatsword with him. Either way, he immediately figured out something was wrong. So instead of asking dumb questions, he did as the others were doing; he inspected the room for anything unusual.

Some of his crewmates seemed to be observing something that K' had obviously missed, perhaps some sort of magical field or something. Magic wasn't exactly part of K's department, so he quickly dismissed this fact, leaving his two crewmates to handle that business while he continued poking around the room.

He only had time to approach a screen only to be sent flying against a nearby wall, crashing so violently and with such strength that the wall crumbled behind him, the debris completely drowned him. It almost seemed as if a wrecking ball had crashed against the wall.

A minute or two later, the pile of debris started moving and K' started to climb out of it. His hair was covered in dust, his clothes slightly ripped here and there and he only sustained a couple of minor injuries despite the terrible shockwave that had pushed him against a wall.

"What...in blazes what that?" He said, one of his hands had found its way to his head and started rubbing it unconsciously. There was a ringing in his ears that was not there before. If someone had answered his question, he probably missed the answer. Not even his enhanced hearing was a match against this cursed ringing.

The first thing that noticed was a huge gap through what seemed to be a wall, or at least the remains of it. As he slowly made his way to it, he took a peek at it. There were several holes that followed after this one. And at the very end, he saw what seemed to be Gear, disappearing into thin air. Perhaps he was hallucinating because of the explosion. But after he stared at the distant spot where Gear was once at, he knew what he had seen was real.

"Hey...where is he going?" K' said out loud, his right hand took a grip on the remains of the wall while he recovered from the explosion. Although he didn't understand what had happened, he continued staring into the empty spot as he tried to chew through everything that had happened.

Kaneharo had remained silent, as he searched through the dark room, channeling magic energy to use as a light, causing a faint purple glow from the corner he was in.
"Something's not right... I feel a magical field, but it's one that even I don't clearly recognize, almost as if it were mixed with something to throw the magically wary off tr-" Kaneharo was caught mid-sentence by the blast. He quickly set up a weak energy shield to cushion any possible impact he might make. Instead, he hit the door, and bent it backward, causing him to drop his shield and hit his head on an adjacent wall, injuring him, and knocking him unconscious,.

High Templar Doomshot

PostPosted: Wed Aug 18, 2010 4:21 pm

Damian awoke in complete darkness. He was unaware of how he arrived here or why he was in full regalia. He switched his mask into night-vision mode and looked around. He was in a ten by ten room with featureless walls, empty save for a small bed and toilet. When he saw the runes etched into the room's door, he realized that he was inside an isolation room. The isolation rooms were installed deep in the detention center to keep the worst criminals safely away from the lesser transgressors. Such rooms are protected with the best force fields and magical defenses the GML could afford. Carefully, Damian reached out towards the door. However, he received neither the slight tingling of an active force field nor the expected shock of an electrified door.

"Well I guess the power is out. Although, that itself is not a good sign," he spoke to no one in particular. The room's soundproofing was good enough that no one would hear what he said and likewise he was unable to hear the sounds of the explosion that tore apart the TOC. He switched his eye to the ethereal band and saw that the magical protections were still active on the door. "Well here's to hopin'," Damian spoke before he moved closer to to the doorway.

Once Damian was within two feet of the doorway, he saw the enchantments finally flicker and die out. Without the force fields and magical reinforcement, the door to the isolation chamber was little more than a large slab of steel. Strong steel, to be sure, but steel nevertheless. Damian knew that what he planned would take a while and make a lot of noise, but that was a small price to pay for the freedom of movement. He unfolded his back limbs and slammed them forward at the edges of the door. With a loud screech, the limbs went right through the door. He pulled them back, leaving four two inch holes on each side. Now it was simple task to simply repeat until an entrance was carved out of the door.

Ratchet had woke in a dark hall that was silent as silence could ever get. He looked around to see if he could see anyone, yet no living being was in near. Ratchet had noticed that he had his gear with him. Combat rifle on his back along with a 2 stun, 1 smoke, and 2 deadly grenades. He took 3 steps to see more darkness. "Great day to be dark, in who knows where." Speaking to himself hoping that someone would say something. Lucky for him no reply.

As he started to walk down what seemed to be the north part of the hall, he made his hidden blade under a arm peice above the wrist move in and out trying to past time. Ratchet soon notices a chair which happened to be in the direction he was walking. He sat down, looking back and forth down into the darkness. As he completes leaning back into the chair, Ratchet over hears Gear talking through the wall behind him. "Hmm Maybe im not so alone here. Right as Ratchet got up from the chair and turned around all hell seemed to brack loose the silence.

"Hcrsh!" Was the sound he herd as the wall he was looking at came flying at his direction. Before he could move, Ratchet saw Gear being tossed his direction. There was nothing that could be done as Gear hit Ratchet making him bend back into a backflip almost, sending him through the wall. The Explosion hit him hard but the first shockwave seemed to hit Gear first. After being sent through multipe walls he landed in the war room where he hit the floor, then slide into something in the middle with his back to it. It was not clear what Ratchet was up o n with the smoke still around but in that very sec a piece of wall had bounced of the ground and hit Ratchet in the stomich. He was now pinned as he had his clothing ripped and burned alittle at different parts along his arm,leg and chest. The mask Ratchet had in his pocket was hanging out on the right side ripped badly. Ratchet was passing out as he noticed he arm had broke.

Nothing was seen around the room but pieces of wall, dust, Ratchet's Combat rifle which was in half on in the middle of the floor along. Ratchet looked over alittle to notice Gear's body bloody but vanishing at the same time. Before he could try to get up, Ratchet passed out from the pain with some blood coming from his mouth along with his broken right left arm and head turned to his left.

Amaiya found herself falling through a sea of darkness. Cold, it was so cold there, and her body turned to that of her scaled form as she curled up in pain. The cold made her weak, but the place she had been before hadn't been nearly as cold as this.

Suddenly, warmth came back, she could feel a hard floor beneath her, and hear voices echo through hallways. Pulling herself out of the fetal position, Amaiya looked around cautiously. She was back? Well, that was easy.

Forcing herself to her feet, Mai found herself locked in a supply closet somewhere. People who knew nothing about magic really shouldn't mess with it. They ended up making portals leading people to pointless places. Ah well, at least he'd managed to get her back to the League anyway. That was what had really mattered.

With a slight growl seeping from her scaled maw, Amaiya's clawed foot went flying into the door. The door unhinged, and flew across the hallway, hitting the opposite wall before falling to the floor.

Gear emerged from the portal, but certainly not unscathed. As he dropped the very young girl from his arms, causing her to land on the floor nearby, he crash landed into the ground, sliding along the hall as he did. When he passed through the portal, the injuries he sustained during the explosion returned, though they seemed to had healed when he left. Bones crunched and twisted, muscles ripped, skin burned, and with screams of agony, Gear lay on the floor, struggling to breathe, as if he had never left.

Strifer Garuwashi

PostPosted: Thu Aug 26, 2010 2:24 pm

When Strifer found consciousness one question ran through his mind. What happened to that nice bed I was on? At first he had just assumed he rolled out of bed, but then a few more observations came before eye were even opened. Strifer had his hat on. As much as the hat was loved, he never slept with it when there was a bed available. Also, the shotgun blade Kaneharo had given him was strapped around his torso, with the hilt poking out over his left shoulder, and his other sword was on his left hip. Strifer hadn't fallen asleep with his blades on. He'd also been training his new found powers before he fell asleep. A lot of the power had been used up, but now it was completely full of each element.

After all these thoughts had passed through Strifer's mind he finally opened his eyes, be it with caution. It seemed as though the caution was unwarranted, because the room was pitch black. He laid on his back until his eyes slowly adjusted to the light, before he decided he could move. Strifer could still only see some darker shapes amongst the massive dark surrounding him. He tip toed around the ones on the floor careful not to step on whatever they were, until he hit a wall. Or what had been assumed to be a wall.

Strifer kept his left hand on the wall and his left hand on the hilt of the blade on his left hip, while he began top sift through the darkness trying to find a door. Strifer had taken maybe ten more steps, still careful to avoid any darker shadows on the floor, when suddenly the wall his hand was on moved. As the wall slid open quickly like an automated door it took Strifer with it, until he found himself sprawled face first on the ground of what seemed like a hallway.

The problem didn't stop there. While Strifer lay useless on the ground, he felt an explosion shake the ground. In a panic he instantly grabbed at the blade on his hip to draw it, while trying to roll so that his back was on the ground. He rolled over to find nothing attacking him. The League had been attacked, but it wasn't near here. Immediately following those thoughts, a growl was heard close by. Then a door to his left flew into the wall on the other side of the hall. Strifer struggled to his feet and drew his blade. He pointed it into the darkness at the now open doorway while he readied his energy. Whatever was coming out, he hoped it couldn't see in the dark either.

The room was still full with smoke as Gear could be seen in the room now. Ratchet was still out cold with his back to a power box for that room, with a few sparks coming from the box. Each spark that hit Ratchet would turn a much brighter blue. At the moment its unknown why the sparks changed to a brighter color, but they didn't seem to burn the skin yet heal the skin alittle.

Immediately after leaving whatever room she had been in, Mai could see a body standing nearby. The heat signature was warmer than the average human slightly, and she was certain it was that of the man she had met before who couldn't seem to walk without alcohol in his system. Humans were strange.

"You there," she said, her voice sounding as though it were many voices all in one, though the feminine voice was more predominant. "What the hell is going on here?" Mai demanded. No sooner had she come back from the Fade, but yet another obstacle or problem stood in her way. These Mercenaries sure did seem to have a lot of them.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 05, 2010 5:50 pm

Strifer expected an angry voice or even a person to come running out of the door, but instead he got a calm response. What would be assumed to be a calm response, considering that there seemed to be far more voices from one location than should be possible. Strifer held his sword in its position pointing at whatever had just spoke to him.

"I'd much rather have you answer that question first. I don't recognize the sound of your voice, which means you could be here to attack us, which would mean you're the cause of this darkness." Strifer's tone came out a little more harsh than intended, but if it was an enemy then they would probably attack him simply on the principle. Although they probably would have attacked him to begin with, but then there was always the chance that the enemy could have sent in troops to trick the mercenaries. If there was an enemy in the base to begin with.

Strifer used his left hand to search inside his jacket for the bottle of rum, while he continued to run through the many possibilities of the situation. He knew he hadn't been in the league long enough to recognize very many of the member's voices, but caution helped a man live longer than one who didn't use it.

Through the darkness, Mai rolled her golden eyes. "Badrah pet," she growled under her breath irritably. "Listen, human, if I was the bad guy, you would all be screwed. Now put your useless weapon away." It was rather clear by his response that he had no idea what was going on, either. Which meant that Mai would have to seek out the others in the darkness with some drunken bag of flesh at her heels. What a drag.

"Since you don't know what's going on here, I'm going to find someone who does. Stay here and defend your wall of darkness from the forces of whatever, if you want, or come with me and stand a chance at living," she offered. It wasn't her way of being nice, not in the slightest. It was just another way for Mai to impose her superiority upon the pathetic humans that she had teamed herself up with. Having just come back from the Fade, Mai had assumed someone here must know what's going on...though it seemed almost as if their arrival had been at the very moment things had gone downhill here. If that were the case, she wouldn't be surprised if it was the fault of that cyberpath who got it in his thick skull to try and use magic instead of leaving it to the professionals. Humans could be so stupid.

Without another word to the man, Mai turned down the hallway going in the opposite direction of him. She could hear voices that way, and through the blackness and the walls could pick up on their heat signatures. There were at least three, so someone had to have some idea what was going on here.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 08, 2010 3:04 pm

Strifer had assumed as much. Since he hadn't been killed yet, he assumed he'd be fine. She didn't sound like the type to mess around. From the tone in her voice, it sounded like she wasn't offering because it was nice, but living always seemed to be the most favorable choice.

Strifer heard her take a step in the direction that seemed to be away from him, but didn't feel comfortable putting his sword away. So he was going to make it useful. He took a few hurried steps to catch up with her while he pushed the cork out the top of his bottle. He took one big gulp before he shoved the cork back in, and put the bottle in it's jacket pocket.

Once that was done Strifer set his blade on his left palm, with a quick yank, blood began to make its warm way out of the cut. He smeared the blood on the blade, until most of it was covered. With his still bleeding left hand he searched in his other jacket pocket for a pack of matches, pulled one out with out taking the whole pack out of his jacket.

Strifer placed the match on the brim of his hat, then brought it forward in a quick motion, which caused the match to light. With a small smile he brought the now lit match to his blood covered blade. Once the flame touched the blood, the blade caught on fire and lit a small area around the two. It wasn't the most effective way, but now he could see, if not both of them. "This thing is never going to be useless." He remarked, as he extended the blade in front of him.

Mai could smell the blood as soon as it began seeping from the man's wound. A long forked tongue licked across her scaled lips at the thought of eating him. Come to think of it, she couldn't remember the last time she had a full meal. Still, it would be more trouble than it was worth if she did do that, so Mai brushed the thought aside.

"Congratulations, now you won't be walking blind," she said, hardly turning to acknowledge the human's lighting their area. Sure, he'd be able to see where he was putting his feet, but Mai could see the people up ahead. Unable to see who they were in the dark, she shouted into the black of the hallway towards the heated bodies she saw there. "Oy! Who's up there?" It didn't occur to her that it could be a bad idea to do this, considering there might have been enemies around. As far as Mai was concerned, it would only make things more interesting and give her the answers she was seeking much faster. If they were the bad guys, standing up there, then this problem would be solved a lot faster than she had originally thought.
