Hey everyone! Long time no chat!

It's August already. That means it's been (oh my god) nine months since NaNoWriMo. That ALSO means (even more oh my god) that there are 3 months until NaNo this year. I'm excited!

Anyone planning on trying again this year? Let's try to start getting active again so that we can have the same active community that we had last November!

I'm hoping to do Nano this year, but at the rate I'm going, who knows? I meant to do Suwrimos and ended up working on 4 outlines and a novella instead. D=

I'm definitely going to be trying again! After the failure that was my last attempt, I'm not certain it's the best idea, but I'm going to do it anyways. Besides, you can always fix failure, right?

Well, I'm hoping to do it. I'm moving halfway across the country in September, so I don't know how that's going to effect my writing. We shall see, though. Definitely getting pumped for it, even though I have no idea whatsoever about the plot or even the characters. xD

I'm super excited! Already have a vague idea of what I want to do.
@Cheshire: Yes, hopefully your move will not affect your writing. (:

Obbbbbviously!

I'm hoping to do 150k this year but I'm assuming it will become 180k since I always write too much. 5k a day isn't bad, though.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 06, 2010 5:48 pm

@Icy: I hope not either. =3
@Sevi: You know, I'm always shocked when people can get over 100k- I barely reached fifty. xD You got any tips?

Wooo! More people check here regularly than I expected! xD

@Chezhire: I hope it goes well =D

@Sevi: Your goals are crazy! I was sooooo glad I hit 69k last time.... I couldn't imagine 150k! xD

@Flea: I meant to do SuWriMos, too... Instead, I've been working on the same story for months and I've only gotten like 10k words. I'm so unproductive when it't not NaNo D=

Ah tips....no. XD Have nothing else to do?

I stayed at a cafe a lot to do most of my 10k writing when I was competing against Akira last year. A lot of the scenes I went through was like going into a blank canvas. I had some ideas of what I wanted to do but no idea how it would turn out. Luckily it usually turned out really well like that.

Unfortunately, a lot of the chapters I did had to be reedited to keep the word count down. This involved restructuring the entire chapter which isn't fun. crying

Uh but...words! idk. The words just come. I would have a brief synopsis of what I wanted and the characters make their own dialogue. Description (though I hate doing it) takes up a LOT of words so I try and do it as often as possible.

I have to do some reediting of my novel (still UGH) so I'm still doing the first chapter but I'm sulking about it, too, because it's almost like it will never be done and I'll just be editing until I'm an old spinster UUUUUGH. I feel like Charlie Brown sometimes. XD But the whole thing is done. Only a few things to edit here and there....but I'm sulking so there. Haha.

Editing 130k is so hard whatthef. ;_____;

150k isn't that hard to me now. 5k words a day. I'm assuming I'll do 180k only because I usually do that. I'll have to make a synopsis at some point since it's a continuation of my other novel (it will be a trilogy). I just want to finish the writing portion of the book because editing takes forever.

Wow. So you just kind of... let whatever comes to you flow out? And you got over 150k just by doing that?

… Well. I guess that means it's time for my inner editor to shut up during November! Maybe compulsively editing isn't that good of a thing after all. xD

Editing all that definitely sounds like it'd take a while, though. Out of curiosity, did you actually finish the book, or was the 180k just a part of it and you had to finish it after Nano?
PostPosted: Sat Aug 07, 2010 6:55 pm

No, my novel is at 130k but when I did my first round of editing it was 150k and then I cut out 20k after that (I cut out much more but I added a lot, too, and it always comes out to be 130k @_____@ ). Last Nano I did 86k since it was the second half of my novel and not the whole thing. Nano 2008 I did 55k so I just added my first nano to the second one. This time I want to do the whole book in one month. I think I can do it. @_____@;;;;;

I want to do 150k for the next one (assuming it will be that long which it probably will be) but any time I think it will be "only such and such" it's always more than that. I remember telling everyone that I was 5k from the end or 2 chapters from the end and I was really 5 chapters from the end or something. Haha.

I'm just going to make a brief synopsis of my story and then take it from there. Yeah, NO EDITING. The only reason I would edit is if I went off course somewhere and I run into a dead end. I just go back a couple chapters and start over (leaving the previous word count untouched. Although this was a mistake when I did Nano for the first time and had no real feeling for the story or characters. I was just writing for the sake of writing).

Some people make outlines which helps with the structure a lot but I don't like them because I like it when I don't know what the story is going to entail. Makes me more imaginative, I think. Plus, I'm not good at following outlines. Heh.

I also love keyboard shortcuts which help me a lot in writing (HOME or END buttons, SHIFT+arrow keys, CTRL+S,V,X,Z,B,I etc., CTRL+SHIFT+Z (undo the undo) Windows Key+M, ALT+TAB). I'm seriously a nut when it comes to keyboard shortcuts.

What's your story going to be about anyway? (:

Wow, that sounds intense! I completely dropped last year's Nano, although I have tried to correct it. It'd be nice to actually take what I wrote and edit it into an actual novel. Maybe I should learn something from you! xD

I've never been too good with outlines either. I tried one last year, but my whole story deviated from it- to the point that a character that was fairly important didn't exist, and it changed into a whole different genre than what I was planning. For me, it's more of 'I write what the characters do, not what I want them to do'. I don't really have much control over the story- I write it how it happens, and if I try to change it, I get blocked and it ends up as crap.

As for what my novel entails of…? I honestly have no clue. xD I have over 60 ideas, just waiting in my stories folder, but I haven't picked one. The idea just hasn't come to me, you know? Like, last year I had my Nano planned for months and it was perfect, and it just felt like it was exactly what I wanted to write. This year? I've got nothing so far. So, I'm just kinda waiting for that perfect idea to come around. xD

Heh, you're way too nice to me! <3 I just want to be done with my novel asap. Dunno how well 150k is going to be like this Nano. Still have to plan it out. Most likely I'll get another notebook for that (I'm almost done with my current notebook, which is the 2nd one just for one book wtf).

Nano's about three months away anyway so you have plenty of time. I'm going to plan out my next novel in October (I have vague ideas of where I want to go with it). Right now....still editing the first one ugh. I can't believe how hard this first chapter is. I've rewritten it about 3 times and hacked and slashed at it a million times. @_____@ This is probably why it's so disjointed from the other chapters, but I still like it the way it is. But no one else will. ARG. So off I go a-editing~

@Sevi: Ah yes, notebooks- did you ever write out a chapter in your notebook and then transfer it to your computer? I've been trying different things, and that seems to be a bit easier for me when it comes to plotting things out, but it's difficult to get a higher word count.

Ah yes, three months away… may I ask what your Nano's going to be about?

@Twilight Scribe: Good luck figuring it out! I bet a good idea will hit you soon- and if not, well, you could always have random ninjas pop into a story and work from there. (It's great for wordcount, and I've found it's great for brainstorming.)

@TheMoonShadow: Good luck this Nano! Also, I love your sig picture.
