My husband's sister is finally getting married to her fiance. They have been together for four or more years.

That's not that bad in the span of things. I've got a buddy who is 23 and he's been with his girlfriend/fiance since we were all 16 i think. 6 years they've been together but their not married yet. They've already got a kid so i don't know why their holding off on the marriage still.
Also congrats to your sister in law.

I don't get that either. I keep hearing people say it's cheaper not to be married. Really? How? Not on taxes that's for sure. There are so many legal reasons for being married as well.
I know a lady who lived with a guy for 12 years. He got injured and was in a coma. She had no say in the matter of what happened to him. She couldn't even go into to the ICU because she wasn't family. That would drive me crazy.

I dont get it...i always thought you got much better tax rebates if you were married especially if you had children. The ability to visit your loved one/partner in the hospital and such and be able to make decisions with regard to their care at said hospital...i think those would far outweigh the "costs" of being married.

Yes, my father-in-law is an accountant and he keeps saying how funny it is when people say that it's cheaper to not be married. He says there is many ways that you save money by being married, not just in taxes.
