I know it's hard to even think of, but, c'mon, you've got to admit, every writer has at least one character they favor more so than the others. Sometimes more than one.
So, out of idle curiosity, which character(s) are your favorite(s)?
Are they male or female?
What are they like? (personality wise)
Why do you like them more? Any particular reasons or do you just like them and don't have any reason why?
Also, out of novels you've read over the years. Do you have any characters that you've read about by another author that you just absolutely fell in love with (but not in the way some fans obsess over them, example: Twilight)?
Who are they? What book(s) are they from? Who wrote about them?
I can't wait to see the difference in characters.

I am very guilty of having a favorite character I have created myself. And I'm not entirely sure why he is my favorite but I think it is because of how different he is compared to the kind of character's I normally write about.
Where most of my characters seem to be the quiet, shy, misunderstood oddball he is the loud, boisterous (spell fail), full-of-himself oddball. With a cocky nature and just plain old sadistic. He doesn't really have a name, in truth he had several names depending on who he talks to or where in the world he is at. It is sort of hard to explain but out of all the character's I have created I like him the most.
I do not have a favorite female character as of yet, but, here's hoping!
And now it's your turn!~

My favourite so far is actually a character from a children's story I created. He's only five years old but he's the typical messy haired kid but he's a bit of a sissy - he's scared of the dark and of monsters. His big sister is always protecting him. He's fun to write about.
My favourite character from a published book is... Odd Thomas from Dean Koontz' books because he's such a quirky character. xD

Believe it or not, my two favourite characters were actually made be me. >.>
Jasper Rosian and Michele 'Idgie' Rosian. Jasper is male, and Idgie is female.
Jasper is the total calm guy who can defuse any situation, takes most things in stride, and is hard to ruffle. He's the type of guy that you want as a permanent friend. Idgie, on the other hand, is hyper, and needs attention. They offset each other perfectly as twins, and everyone who's read about them has told me how amusing they are when they're together.
It's funny, because while I used them for this years Script Frenzy, that's not when I first came up with them. Jasper had been around for around two years, and gained a sister around the middle of NaNoWriMo.
As for book characters, I love Sherlock and Watson from all of Sir Conan Doyle's books.

@elemental: Awww you're character sounds cute! (like little kid cute). And Odd Thomas is one of my favorite characters as well. Love how he adds humour to the whole 'my life sucks' thing.
@colored: Aha. Its funny 'cause the girl, Idgie was it? She sounds just like one of my friends. But the guy seems cool too! Sherlock Holmes is win.

My favourite character out of those I've created vary depending on which project I'm working on. But right up there is the protagonist from my venture into 'proper' fantasy; Lilly Firetamer (nee Tailor). My intention when creating her was that the reader would intensely dislike her, but I'm not sure that came across very well. I just couldn't help giving her one too many redeeming features. So, where initially she was an exceedingly talented but hugely self-centred mage, whose pride is almost the downfall of an entire country, she's somehow morphed into a still very proud but ultimately slowly reforming mage instead. She still endangers the fate of the country by her actions, but now it's more accidental than just out of stubbornness. I possibly spent too long working on a plausible reason for her arrogance, which turned out to be a bit of a sob story.
As for favourite published characters, hmm. I'm a bit of a sucker for feisty female fantasy leads if I'm honest. I'm currently re-reading my Tamora Pierce collection, so that might be why I'm slightly obsessed with fantasy at the moment.

@Tott: 'Dead Witch Walking'? Lots of fiesty women in that. biggrin
@Tempest: he is mega cute. I want to take him home biggrin The story starts with his sister shaking him awake and he wakes up with crazy hair and bundled in his quilt so you can barely see him. He spends most of his time trying to avoid leaving his bed but naturally he feels compelled to join his persuasive sister on her amazing adventures. biggrin

@Tempest: Yeah, Idgie was actually based off of my sister. XD Jasper just came out of nowhere, but he's just as awesome as Idgie. My friends and I have a habit of cutting pictures out of magazines that look like our characters, and they stole the picture of Jasper. XD

@Tott: Lol. Fiesty characters are awesome too. Although I can't think of any memorable ones I've read of.
@elemental:Can I take him home too? I love kids. They are so adorable. redface The story sounds really interesting too. XD
@Colored: Ah, but characters that just come out of no where are often the best! *sticks hand into thin air and pulls out random character*

Do you mean our own characters? I think my favorite ever is the villain in one of my roleplays. He's a sick b*****d. A sociopath with an Oedipus Complex, all he wants out of life is power over others. I don't know why I like him so much, but as a villain, I'm rather proud of him, and I'm probably going to use him somewhat as a model for the main villain in my novel, as well--except the latter will be a meth freak to boot.
I swear, someone's going to refer me to counseling someday for writing this crazy stuff. xD

Scraps, I believe we don't need counselling because we got all those "sick" thoughts out and onto paper. It's our therapy.
It's those that deny ever thinking about things like that that we should worry about...

@elemental: OKAY! Sounds like an adventure. Aha.
@Scraps: Hope I got that right. Yes, I meant our own characters. And no, you're not crazy/weird/odd or anything inbetween. Because, frankly, that is normal for a writer, we've all got the 'sickness'. And our only hopes of treatment and becoming even slightly normal is through our writing. Science and medicine can not cure us. So we all must make do. Love your character by the way.

I wonder if I should start telling my patients that the voices in their head are really characters and they should write about them... lol.

So, out of idle curiosity, which character(s) are your favorite(s)? My favorite character in my usual writing is a person named Fawn- I literally just came up with her for my new book based on my travel experiences.
Are they male or female? Female
What are they like? They live in their own head and ignore basically all social rules because she simply doesn't care. She also is has a problem with interaction and tends not to talk alot(which makes it harder for me because I am best at dialog)
Why do you like them more? Any particular reasons or do you just like them and don't have any reason why? I don't know, I guess because she's down right rude enough to make you laugh while using logic against all logic
Also, out of novels you've read over the years. Do you have any characters that you've read about by another author that you just absolutely fell in love with (but not in the way some fans obsess over them, example: Twilight)? I fell in love with two characters- Dexter Morgan/Moser and Jonas
Who are they? What book(s) are they from? Who wrote about them? Dexter is a secret serial killer that works for the police department and gets himself in all sorts of trouble trying to act normal. He is from the Dexter series. Jeff Lindsey is Dexter's amazing creator. Jonas is a boy who lives in a perfect world, no hunger, no pain, but also no choice. He becomes the receiver of memory and comes to understand that people need choices or else the world is boring. He's in the book The Giver, The Messanger, and mentioned in Gathering Blue, briefly.
-gah that took a long time, I didn't know how to summarise it!
