It wasn't normal for Sam to do his own patrolling, but lately, nothing was really normal. He limped now, as he walked the borders of a pack so young, yet so under fire already - and from his trusted beta no less. He would need to replace Varok soon, and his mate Draka, though his heart wouldn't let him think of replacing her at all currently.

He didn't claim to know fully what was going on, but when the seer, Shiva, had arrived, she had quickly pulled him aside to point out the rising problem, the impending fighting. She knew Varok would strike when the pack was unaware, and incapable of helping the young alpha. Draka had been struck violently on the skull, and when the dust had cleared and Varok was declared dead, Draka was nowhere to be found.

Though Sam was young, and Varok was much bigger than him, he had only been injured in the fight. He had feared for his life, especially due to his recurring puphood sickness, but some way he had won out. He wasn't happy about having to kill his beta, but if future sins against wolfhood were to be avoided, it had to be done.

Sam had rushed his patrol through the oceanside and riverside of his packlands, and now slowed to more thoroughly inspect the open side of the pack - the north border, all forest, and no real protection against outsiders. This was the border he told Pol to keep tightly watched, because anyone could just slip right in, and if it weren't for Pol and Sol... no one would know until the outsiders were upon them in their dens.

Lilith had been a part of a large pack at one time; they had all worked at peak efficiency and were up to her standards for protecting the pack. The only problem was that everyone was the same; no one was unique no one disliked one wolf more then another… It was all so, perfect in a sense. But perfection can surely bring flaws and Lilith had to get out. It had taken her a while to get to where she was now, with her daily training and hunting needs Lilith was finally getting feed up with the redundant routine and was ready for a new pack.

Finally though she was at her destination, at a place that seemed to surely need her. Nodding Lilith stalked forward through the tree line noticing the other wolf for portals, very well. “I am Lilith of a pervious pack far from this land. I intend to join your pack and work it into a scheduled working order.” Yes she was upfront and forward with everyone, it was the best way to get through to other wolves.

Sam stood his ground as the female stalked to him, snarling lightly. What was she thinking, approaching him on his own land like this? When she spoke, his brows furrowed, and he tilted his head slightly. How strange.

"And what if my pack isn't accepting new wolves?" he questioned, slightly annoyed at the assumption that she could just waltz right in. It was true, he was out two members, one of them being his mate, and the other being his beta - but with his current problems taking flight, he really didn't have time to be watching a new wolf so carefully.

He wanted to take her though. Something in his gut made him believe that she would be good for the pack. A no-nonsense lady to whip everyone into shape. He waited for her answer, his tail and head up, flagging his alpha position clearly.

Slightly frowning Lilith nodded again before sitting before the obvious higher ranking wolf before her, “You are of obvious strength and authority, and on both accounts you are higher than I am I will bow to your command if you so allow me to join.” Bowing her head forward Lilith didn’t allow her stance to waver from that of a powerful Beta’s.

She might dislike perfection at a certain point but she would still strive to achieve some form of it within this new life. So far Lilith agreed with how this alpha worked, his body language was readable and his stance was very pronounced as a leader. Noting to herself Lilith felt almost giddy to join such a pack, to start something so new… But then again Lilith didn’t pay much attention to her emotions.

Why were things so difficult lately? She obviously wanted to join his pack and seemed willing to do anything he told her to do. Maybe even out of the context of logic. He sighed as she sat before him, and he looked her over in intense inspection. He had never met a wolf so purple before, though he had some purple on his own body in the way of his mohawk. He shook his head softly, causing the purple fur to shift out of his eyes as he thought.

"Come with me. I need a new Beta after what's just happened." his brows furrowed as he brought up the event which had rocked the pack to its core. She would have to know about it if she was to be a loyal member of the pack. He would take her to the ocean and talk to her about the pack before leading her into their home, the heart of the mountain.

"Where are you from? My name is Samhain, by the way. Lone alpha of this pack I call Hollow Earth." the name, as he said it, was pronounced Saw-vhin, which was strange to him. His mother had a strange penchant for calling him "Sam"... and his twin had done the same when she had arrived with news from home. But that was another can of worms in itself. Right now, he would focus on this new potential member.

“A pack far from this land, as I have stated before my name is Lilith, Alpha.” Nodding to her Alpha Lilith stood and followed with him, ears perked and ready to listen for the history of her future pack. She would do her best to make her Alpha happy; it was the logical thing to do of course. She could already figure out a pattern of training for the young ones and the rest of the pack.

Lilith didn’t feel emotion often, as a young pup she was trained to ignore her baser needs and emotions and go start for the logical choice and demand of the pack. Usually her packs order was to make sure to gain as many members as possible, willing or not didn’t matter as long as they were the largest pack around.

Though she knew her pack was being destroyed from the inside out their order wasn’t sticking to their plans and trying to control so many wolves was never an easy thing to begin with. Lilith had gotten out when she could and now she was here, in a place that was completely fresh… New… Complying. Shaking her head Lilith ignored those baser emotions; this wasn’t like her, her body must need to sleep soon.

As the pair made their way to the ocean, Sam took the time telling Lilith everything that had happened. His mate's brother - his beta - had meant to kill him and take Sam's mate as his own. It was a disgusting idea, but Sam had had no choice but to believe his seer friend when she told him what she had heard.

Sure enough, Varok, the beta, had attacked. In the fray, Draka had disappeared, and had been gone for a very long time. Varok had been killed, and Freed had helped Sam dump the wolf's body over the cliffs into the ocean away from both packlands.

The ocean was in sight as Sam finished the latest story of their pack. "Things had started so well." he confided in the female. He had only been a teen when he started this pack, but his luck had run out recently. He missed his mate, though he didn't speak of that yet. "I need you to help me pick up the slack, and I think you can do it relatively easily." he spoke as he turned his head towards the massive body of water. "The ocean." he related to her, wondering if she had ever seen such a thing before.

Lilith took the information in, contemplating what she could do to heal this obviously broken pack. It would be a challenge and Lilith needed the work to get her head set into motion, nodding the whole way in her mind it was already a yes and these small bits were only a check list. She had to make sure everything had the potential for perfection.

Raising her tail at the mention of the ocean Lilith let a smile fall to her face, ahh the ocean. There were wonders in that sea of nothingness that even Lilith could feel a shiver crawl over her spine about it. It was such a wonder to stare into it’s never ending depths. Areas not discovered were always a challenge for Lilith, and challenges could always be overcome and turned to perfection.

“Such a large body of water can surely hide any mystery’s that should be uncovered. But currently my new mission is to serve under you as your Beta, correct?”

Samhain watched the purple wolf smile, possibly for the first time since he had met her, and allowed himself to smile right along with her. She was so direct, and he thought that would be an asset to him and his pack. She was also curious about many things, and that was also useful to him.

"My beta, yes." he confirmed, thinking but not saying that she would probably be a much better beta than Varok, the previous. He had been sneaky and vile, and had proved his nature in time. Samhain was glad to be rid of him, but sad to be rid of his mate. He wished that he knew where to look for her, but scouting parties had brought back no word on so much as even a scent trail.

"What are your plans?" he inquired as he turned himself back towards the mountain, intent on taking her underground to see the other part of the packlands. The part that was more interesting than any other place he had been - besides his birthpack, of course.

“I have many plans, to reform the pack meetings which you will hold; we will need to have one within the next few months. Gathering new members is always at the top of the list, making sure our gammas are trained to protect with what little they have and to maintain and good attendance of our group.” There was so much more that she had to go through but as the new beta of the pack there wasn’t a lot she could start with right off the bat.

“I am to understand that any members I might find on our area can be taken under my wing if you are away, correct? And should I be looking for another alpha for you sir, or is that your duty?” She knew normal packs ruled under two Alphas but that her old one ruled under only one… Maybe this one was the same way?

Sam listened intently to his new second-in-command and grinned to himself. She had this under control already, her first hour on the job. He walked, leading her back, but it was still easy for them to speak as they traveled.

"That sounds like a plan. Yes, you are to take any who aren't dangerous or don't seem to be sent as spies under your wing if I find myself called away." he remembered that he would soon have to leave to return to his birth pack for a while, to help with his sibling. It was almost too perfect that Lilith had shown up when she did.

"In fact, your first test comes within the next few moons. I must take leave and travel back to my birth pack for at least one moon cycle round trip." he informed her, knowing that she could handle anything that happened in his absence.

When she inquired about finding him another alpha, he balked a bit, unsure of what to say. "No..." he hesitated, still sure of the idea that Draka could be found and saved. "I will see to finding an alpha to stand with me." he finally told her as they came in view of the cave entrance.

Nodding Lilith took notes in her head, “And if they are a threat I am to disable them and bring them back to the den?” By disable she of course meant break their legs and make sure they couldn’t leave until he was done questioning them, she just thought her new Alpha knew that as well. At least in her mind all alpha should know that.

This was quite good for her she was able to start from the beginning with this pack turn it around while it still had a chance and still stay within the frame of perfection Lilith wished of it.

"Woah, woah." Sam urged her to pause in her thoughts. He would have to get used to her way of thinking, and fast. "I would really only disable them if they refuse to leave after you order them away." he insisted. He was very tempted to say that she should gouge their eyes if she was going to bring them back to the den at all, so that they couldn't see.

Instead, he improvised. He didn't want to maim anyone for life if it wasn't necessary. "Throw sand in their eyes if you must bring them back to the den. We don't want any enemy knowing the true entrance into our homes."

As he spoke the words, the wolf parted the bush that lay protectively over the entrance of the cavern, holding it gently aside for Lilith to enter first, and then making to follow her. "It's dark and cool, and we like it that way." he whispered as they were encased in the darkness of being underground.

Another smile came to Lilith face, it was so dark and alone and peaceful down here for everyone this was the perfect place for her. Nodding to her alpha Lilith took it all in, so large and yet away from the world so cold and quite, no nonsense was needed, was even able to be in their lives down here it seemed. It was so… perfect.

“This is perfect, Alpha. I will do my best to keep the area rid of unwanted beings.” Nodding yet again Lilith took in what was where and how to get there fast enough; she had to remember the map of the area over all.

Sam nodded as well. "We keep things very quiet down here." he answered, clueing in on what she might be thinking. That wasn't to say that puppies couldn't play, or wolves couldn't converse without fear of reprimand, but that things were calmer, less hurried.

He led the beta down the tunnel and into the main area, where he showed her to her own personal den, right next to his. "If this suits you, it's the den you will take over for your own personal use." he introduced. Other alphas felt that all their wolves were under them, and should be kept away. Sam, however, felt that his betas should be kept close, so that communication between the very important ranks would not break down or grow stale.

After showing her the den, Sam made to turn towards his own. "I must think on some things, and rest before my journey. Settle in, rest, do whatever you would like to do. This is your home now."
