 Princess Tutu (プリンセスチュチュ, Purinsesu Chuchu?) is a magical girl anime series created by Ikuko Itoh in 2002 for animation studio Hal Film Maker. It was adapted as a 2-volume manga illustrated by Mizuo Shinonome. Both series are licensed in North America by ADV Films.
Princess Tutu follows Duck, a duck who was transformed into a young girl who takes ballet at a private school. She becomes enamored of her mysterious schoolmate Mytho, and transforms into Princess Tutu to restore his shattered heart. Mytho's girlfriend Rue transforms into Princess Kraehe to disrupt Tutu's efforts, and Mytho's protective friend Fakir discourages Mytho's burgeoning emotions. When it becomes apparent that Duck, Rue, Mytho, and Fakir are meant to play out the roles of characters in a story written by a writer named Drosselmeyer, they begin to resist the constraints of their assigned fates and fight to keep the story from becoming a tragedy.
The series explores the concepts of fate and free will. Reviewers point out that although Princess Tutu is nominally a magical girl series, it is more of a "fairy tale set to ballet with a few magical girl elements mixed in," and its use of ballet dances in lieu of violence to solve conflicts carries "surprisingly effective emotional appeal. ~Wikipedia

he didn't want to at first
but like sooo many other things that start out that way,
he enjoyed it in the end! ~.^<3

I love it, Fakir is the man. I need to buy Princess Tutu on dvd heart So, sadly it seems that the only people who like this are you and me Mistress Spider. What is your favorite part of the story and did you read the manga at all?

Princess tutu is in my top ten anime's that I love the most. I can't seem to find the manga anywhere it seems and I've been searching for it for years. But once I do find them I'm buying every volume. biggrin

Just started to re-watch the series so far I got up to Princess Kraehe poisoning the heart shard with the ravens blood.

I want to re-watch but do not have the time, I love dancing and this anime actually has impressively detailed art for the dancing. Although there are obviously series repeats where they just reuse the same animation over and over, they actual did put effort in to make the different heart shards have unique dances. It is also nice that they kept the original classical music pieces and did not just change everything out.

Princess Tutu is amazing! I stayed away from it for a bit because the name worried me and I thought it would not be that great. I imagined it to be extremely girly and a kid show to the highest extent! ...Boy, was I wrong. It was one of those, 'Don't judge a book by it's cover' moments. I love the characters and the character development in the show! The plot was great and it is also one of my top ten animes =]! And I will re-watch it in a year (I believe it has been a year and a half since I watched it...If not two years, lol)
