I've been sending chapters to my critique buddy over the last few months. I sent over a chapter last week around the 50,000 word mark and got a response just now. I was thrilled to see: "Holy crap! I didn't see that coming..."

What's the best thing you've heard about your piece/pieces that gave you that buzz?

Well, I've only had one piece of writing actually looked over by another person, and the thing they said that gave me that buzz was that I had "a phenomenal beginning". I hope I have more of those excited moments in the future, though! heart

I wrote a novelette for my mother for Christmas one year. My family isn't very expressive - we're rather reserved with our feelings - so she never said much about it. But I remember one day she got really panicked because she couldn't find the print version and was searching over the entire house for it. That was pretty special.

I think my most recent moment was when my mom, who is an editor, read my manuscript with in mind the specific question of whether or not it was publishable, and didn't say anything about it when she got back, just started talking about how the length was problematic and I should look at e-publishers because the market was more open for novellas and I'd have better luck with them than a traditional publisher. Nothing about the content, just the market. It was awesome.

@Eileen: it's good that you and your mum can still discuss things professionally biggrin (and very handy to have an editor on board!)

@Kiddo: that's sweet. Shows she must have enjoyed it, it would obviously have sentimental value too because you put a lot of time into it for her.

@Heart: an awesome compliment! I do hope you get more of them biggrin

I have two occasions in which I became really happy over something that someone said about my writing.

The first instance was when a friend of mine came to me for advice on how to write more often and stuff related to that. It was amazing because I've always seen her as a very independent type. I've also seen her as a great writer already and for her to come to me asking advice was just amazing. I loved it.

The second time was with my mum. I let her read a random page from my notebook of a part that I had written but wasn't going to use. What I'm writing now is her type of reading material so when she said that she would love to read the final, finished piece it was a great feeling because I know how picky my mother is about what she reads. It's quite lovely :')

This doesn't have anything to do with either occasions, but I remember that one of my ex-boyfriend's used to take a huge interest in my writing. He still does sometimes. It's just nice to know that there's someone who shows as much enthusiasm for your work as you do~ <3

The best compliment I've ever received on my writing went as follows:

"Your writing makes me happy in my pants. =3"

I s**t you not. It was amazing to hear that, you have no idea. Especially since I wasn't even writing porn. xDDDD
