I posted this on a few other steampunk forums but I felt it was just as important hear. It has only been a few weeks from Time Travelers Weekend at the Midsummer Magick Faire, more and more places are having similar events. Steampunk has always been popular at sci-fi conventions and I have seen some great costumes for Star Wars. Now we can be found at anime conventions, and even horror conventions. Currently I am working on Star Trek Steampunk costume, one because I like star trek and two because I love pissing off star trek fans(some are way too uptight). Steampunk is everywhere, are we slowly taking over. We attend in groups to events and most pictures are of us, look at comic-con. Are we just desprate for events or are we invading these conventions and taking over?

I wouldn't say we're invaders, we're simply a very prevalent genre of people who happen to attend cons. I think right now there's a huge flood of people pouring in, trying it all out, and after a couple years, those who aren't fully dedicated will drop away.
Kind of like Naruto cosplayers. They were EVERYWHERE for a while, and now there's not so many.

*laughs* It's from the Imaginary Friend EI, I don't know what gen has this pose right now, but you should've seen the Doctor Who guild squee.
Back on topic though. Yes, we probably are in control, but everything comes and goes.

I have noticed, though I think we have been around for a while. But most of us just got the money and will to actually dress up. I personally have been into steampunk/neo-victorian stuff for a while, but haven't had a job to pay for anything until now. Not to mention it is super easy to just go the steampunk route when going to a con instead of trying to be accurate with a character. (Not to mention more fun as you can create your own character. ;D) Or maybe you are right. There HAS been a rise in Texas steampunks lately...

Yes, Texas steampunk will continue to be on the rise if I have anything to say about it. I spread it like wildfire at college, on facebook, with old high school friends, and all along the Texas coast. smile

When I get the cash, I'll make my own outfit. Till then, I can only imagine I guess.... You and me, both . . . so I'm sticking to mostly the Rockabilly look for now and adapt Steampunk in later on when I got Cash.

Well the nice thing about steampunk is that you can make a bunch of stuff out of random things you find in your home and stuff, especially if electronics break, just buy some spray paint and have at it, like clocks, computers (though thoes can usually be fixed so be careful with that one lol,) watches definatly, Ipods, all sorts of things can be scavenged for parts lol smile

It'd be a lie if I said I wasn't surprised to see not only people wearing steam punk outfits (I swear, you'd die for some of the dresses). Also, actual shops set up for steam punk wear. I thought that there was no way they'd let venders in. I'm happy they did though. Granted, it does now seem less like a ren fair and more like a pre-technological fair. I still like it. I'm also hoping that by having other styles available, more people will be encouraged to dress up.
