My rifle strap broke yesterday. gonk

It was so sad! I was doing backhands and... the rifle fell. So first I stared at it like this: o.O because I was sure I had had the rifle and strap.

And then I looked at it and... it was on the ground... with two dangly pieces where the strap used to connect... xd

Any of your equipment ever broken on you?

Erm... Well, last year we had these incredibly huge flags. (Looked like circus tents... Blues.. yellows.. purples...) Yeah, so one night during a show, I'm twirling, and then.... **riiipp** I had stepped on the flag.... And it ripped... xd I didn't mean to!! It wasn't too horrible, thankfully.. And it was on a seam, so it was pretty easy to repair.. I wasn't the only one to do it, though! Nearly all of us ripped those flags..

ask t3h_hanakosama about last years spring guard incident.... xd

but the closest thing for me to messing up equipment was when we were using these old flags that had silk ripped all over, so when i was walking one day i stepped on it and heard *riiiiiiip* -.- it wasn't too horrible so i just ignored it ninja sweatdrop

okay, so this is my spring guard story.

our show was quite fast. the only time we really had a break was during the slow arrangement of the song it was all centered around. during the slow song we used these awesome shiny sheer red swing flags. on really thin, half inch diameter dowels. my captain made and taped all of the flags, and put tape all around the handle to make sure it wouldnt break.

well at the end of the song, we had to run to either the front or the back and do this fwooshy thing with it.

i guess i squeezed too hard or something because **SNAP** there goes the handle, still stuck to the flag with the tape, but now jotting out at a 90 degree angle.

my captian freaked out, and gave me a new one.

week later, 2 more broke, one at the hand of a senior and i think i may have broken another. and then another one or two broke.

sweatdrop

there have also been instances like tigerish mentioned about stepping on old flags on the asphalt pavement that is our practice lot......the holes get bigger, you do some trick with it and **RRRRIP** there goes half of the "cantina band" flag. some of the gold corner squares of our red silk flags got ripped off completely because of this one move......not really the same as when you rip a huge a** hole in the flag because the square can be sewn back on.

Let's see....I uh dropped my first rifle in my friends back yard a few times on the grass when she was teaching me, since I'd never spun rifle and for our little extra show I was, and it kinda...uh...snapped in half at the bolt.

There were lots of silk rips last year 'cause our silks were heavily sewn and very large...

in my winterguard last year, we practicing for the semifinals of our biggest competition, when one of us was spinning and hit a basketball hoop. Now it was only 3/4 sized pole, and made of plastic...We all turned to look because f the noice, and the last six inches or so of the flag were jutting out at a very bad looking angle...we all paniced ^^

this other time, our instructor gave us something to visualize to help with our work "imagine the flag is a newspaper and your killing a bug"...i DONT like bugs...and I got a little too into the 'bug smack' as we fondly called it, and I smacked my pole down so hard on the ground the end broke off! sweatdrop i had to fix it and my instructoe wasn't too happy with me...

My rifle strap has broken many a time. Sabre tip has come off a lot too. But the worst thing that has ever happened was I got stuck with the crappy rifle one day (the one that's hilt is held on by electrical tape) and I was doing the routine and, wouldn't ya know it, the hilt came off! Luckily no one was hurt! mrgreen

Sorry but... what are backhands? I ish curious about rifle stuff... even if it scares me. (Rifle + head = ...no...)

The most damage I've done was to myself and not the gear. ;-;
My friend knocked the.. uh.... silver thing.. (is that what someone was calling "bolt"?) loose on one rifle. We didn't tell anyone.. just found a screwdriver and fixed it the best we could. (and put it away pretending we never had it out..)
About 30 minutes later my sis-in-law, somehow, broke the same one in half. She scares me. D:

I hate it when my rifle strap breaks on me x_x especially when it just wont screw back in to the butt D: As for broken equipment, I've split two rifles down the middle from overuse, broken a sabre hilt (stupid flimsy Excalabur!!) and quite a few flag and sabre tips haha. I think that's about it.

Once I had the silk rip off of the bottom tap of my flag.
Also, my freshman year we had these props that looked like skeleton hands (with 4 fingers though...) which we waved around and they were made of PVC pipe. Well, the glue connecting the joints together must not have been very good because every time we used them we would litter the field with phalanges and metacarples xd . They were neon orange too! So you couldn't miss 'em! rofl rofl
On the rifle strap issue, I've never had one break on me, but we did replace them this summer for different colored ones, and I fully intend on making a purse and using the rifle strap as a handle! 4laugh

Once this past winter we were in the middle of a rehearsal run-through, and somebody's strap snapped. She was kinda like gonk and our designer was there and said next to not try and spin it, cause rifles spin funny when their straps break.

Gasp I just remembered! My freshman year, we had already performed our winterguard show so we were up in the stands watching either and Independant, Open, or World class guard. The rifle strap broke on one of the guys rifles, and he kept performing....and did the rest of his show perfectly eek . And the strap was still attached on one end, so he was throwing fives and what-not with this strap just flopping all over the place. It was so hardcore! xd

I've broken a rifle and a sabre, not to mention countless swing flags, sabre tips, and stoppers =3

Rifle 1: Twas my first rifle, Joseph. We were outisde learning a really cool trick, and I got stuck on an incline. Anyway, I put my foot too close to the neck of the rifle and when I spun around it snapped. I almost cried D=

Sabre: I was practicing 5s and 6s and I dropped it and it snapped off at the hilt. I didn't really care that I broke my unnamed sabre, but I was a little worried about what Bribri would say. Luckily, someone else broke theirs about the same time so I wasn't singled out.
