Vanyel: Orange
Ment: Black
- July 15th 2007
- Vanyel peered into the doorway of the scent shop curiously, peering about with half lidded eyes and her butt sticking out behind her. She looked like a little sneak, and that's exactly what she was doing. Half-heartedly she was hoping she'd catch sight of the little Egyptian boy she'd met once before here since he was not at the playground when she checked earlier, and since Kitten was just two doors away shopping Vanyel had been allowed to come over here and see if there were any 'scent babies' around.
'Scent babies' was possibly the most obnoxious term for Vanyel to listen to and it grated on her nerves every time Kitten said anything along those lines. 'That little scent baby. What was his name? The peppermint one. Go see if he's there' Kitten had said to her. Scent baby. Vanyel was not a baby.
Not seeing, or smelling, the Egyptian boy, Vanyel straightened and wandered into the room, looking around at all the scents and wondering if Kitten would ever buy her a brother or a sister. A sister would be nice, wouldn't it? Slipping over to the shelf containing fruity smells, Vanyel plucked up a cup of gel labled 'Lime' A lime sister would be totally cool.
Ment had been behind the island with the cash register on it when he heard Vanyel enter and smelt the overwhelming scent of Orange in the air. He smiled to himself, peering down at the new toy Olivia had given him.
In reality it really wasn't a toy, but he labeled it that anyway. It was indeed a mask. A tiki mask she had bought from the market the day before. She claimed it came from an island far away from the Avendine. Ment believed her, as the wood still smelt of the sea, and some other things.
Placing the mask on his face, he pulled the strings back around his head and tied them tightly, so the mask would not fall. He waited there, listening to every foot step Vanyel made, waiting for the right moment to jump out and her and frighten the braids off her.
Unfortunatly for Ment, just as the girl smelled so strongly of oranges and he knew she was coming, it was only a matter of time for the girl to notice the peppermint smell in the air and knew the boy that had played with her braids once before would be coming after her. He simply seemed like the type that would try to play a prank on her. Vanyel would play nice though and let him have his fun. It really wasn't fun to go ruining surprises unless she could turn it around for her to surprise others. But she wasn't in the mood.
Taking the lime scent up to the counter she put it down and rapped her fingernails, painted pretty orange of course, upon the counter top and waited for service. If Kitten wouldn't buy the lime cup, and she knew Kitten wouldn't, then she would have to buy it herself. Nevermind the fact that the girl didn't have any money, she'd figure out something, of that she was sure.
"Hey! Customer here. I wanna buy stuff," she called out, bracing herself for whatever Ment had in store for the smell was overwhelming at this pont.
"BBBLLLLAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!" He screamed, popping up behind the island with the Tiki mask on his face. It was funny to see him with it on as his hair was fighting heroically to be free and seemed to actually be eaten the sides of the mask. What was even funnier was the fact he was wearing a girls swimsuit....
"BOW DOWN TO ME PUNY GIRL! I AM THE ANCIENT TIKI AND HAVE COME TO COLLECT ME DUES!!!...I accept all payment in the form of bubblegum, candycanes and chocolate."
The girl blinked in the most serene of fashions as the 'tiki' made its demands. A smile was all he recieved in return as Vanyel fought very valiantly to keep one eye brow from lifting in confusion of the swimsuit worn by the boy. "Why hello Mr. Tiki. My name is Vanyel. I'm afraid I haven't got any of this bubblegum, candycanes or chocolate, but I have here this dish of yummy smelling lime. Now here's the deal I propose to you. You let me have the lime dish and I will let you demand from me chocolates, candycanes and bubblegum,"
Vanyel thought herself quite the negotiator and she smiled to herself as she finished her little speech. She looked like she was attempting to buy a house from some angry businessman that didn't speak English when of course she was only trying to swindle poor little Ment out of a scent cup.
"Sorry sweetheart. Candy now or no deal." Ment huffed, crossing his arms and knocking the Tiki Mask off hsi face."Ahh! My mask!" He squeaked, skittering after it and it clanked onto the floor and skidded a small ways from the island.
"'Livia only takes pieces for the Scents. that's how you got homed, afterall. We are co-mo-do-ties." He said in some mock southern accent.
Vanyel let her lower lip slip out past the other, trembling ever so slightly as those sharp orange eyes grew large and misty behid her black rimmed glasses. "But I taint got any candy or peices for comodoties," the girl replied in an equally southern accent, hoping to earn cuteness points and thusly win her lime cup in that fashion.
Of course the girl made no recognition that the mask had fallen from the boys face as if she were to do that she'd elude that she was in on his little scheme the whole time, and that wouldn't be very cool now would it? "Please Mr. Tiki? I'll find you some candies when my mommy comes over if you'd like."
"I can't." Ment replied, fastening the Tiki Mask back to his face and skittering back behind the island and cash register. "If I do Olivia will get mad at me. A mad 'Livia shortens one's life span."
The boy scratched at his skin as he responded, the irritated red glow of the sun showing upon it. when he finished repsonding he chewed on his arm furiously trying to stop the itch.
"If you want the cuppy, your momma will have to pay for it."
Vayel let out a sigh and flumped her chin atop the counter, staring at the lime cup blankly. There was no way Kitten would ever buy it for her. After bidding it a fond farewell she reached out and pushed the cup over to Ment. "I can't have it then," Vanyel certainly wasn't going to put it back. Ment had not helped her and she would not help him. Hmph. So much for being nice.
"Why are you chewing on your arm?" she asked, picking up her head and leaning over the counter to get a better look at whatever it was he was scratching at. "I don't think it's a very good idea to be doing that," Vanyel said nervously, reaching out to take his arm in her hands and keep it away from his mouth so she could get a better look at it.
"It's itchy." Ment replied, tugging away from Vanyel a bit so he could commence the chewing. "And it won't stop. And the skin is peeling off like plastic or someting."
He scratched a bit more as the skin peeled off, showing the irritated raw skin underneath it. Giving another quick scratch he hissed as the arm bled a little. He had scratched a wee bit too much it seemed.
"You're such a scent baby," the girl huffed before grabbing his arm back and pulling him towards the back. She didn't much care if she wasn't allowed back there and she didn't much care that she didn't know where she was going, but she was going to find a bathroom for the boy. "How about instead of you biting at it like a dog you put it under some cold water. That will make it feel better. And then you should wrap it up in something so you don't keep itching it. It will only make it worse."
Vanyel tugged the boy all over, refusing to accept his attempts to pull away from her. She was going to find him a sink whether he liked it or not, with or without his help.
"I am not." Ment pouted, as he relentlessly was drugged to the store room and than off towards the downstairs bathroom to have his arm shoved under cold water.
"But it itches!" He protests."Just because the saying goes 'Out of sight, out of mind.' doesn't make it true..."
Ment latched to a wall quickly, before she drug him any further, "Bathroom is in here."
Vanyel shrugged at his words, "I certainly never said that just because it was wrapped up you wouldn't think about it. I more meant that your nails can't touch skin if it's all wrapped up like a mummy's." Once the bathroom was proclaimed to be found she pushed him into it and waited for him to wash off the spot while she searched for anything; bandaids, gauze, tissue paper, t-shirts, it didn't matter what.
"Just think. If Amahte sees you with your arm all wrapped up like a mummy's maybe he wont make fun of you anymore." Vanyel did not make comment on the swimsuit.
"He'll make fun of anyone he wants to..." Ment commented, his voice low and monotone. "That is how he is."
He washed off his arm carefully with the water and the itching died down.
"He doesn't understand we're a family and that in the future he will need me just like you will need me and just like I will need all of you."
He turned the faucet off and faced her, a smile spreading upon ihs face, "It doesn't itch so much no more. i think 'Livia has that wrap stuff somewhere out front. You know....just incase I break something and hurt myself." He laughed a litte.
The girl reached out to ruffle Ment's hair, feeling bad that she had upset him. Atleast she thought she had upset him. He sounded less than his usual self. "Well I don't let him make fun of me and you shouldn't let him make fun of you," she said with a nod before jumping over to the bathroom door.
She didn'tunderstand what he meant about everyone needing everyone else, but then again she didn't much understand most of what Ment said. Vanyel thought Ment was a little on the wacky side to begin with. Not that she didn't think he was adorable...but this was all beside the point.
"Well you should wrap it up if it starts itching again, or put it under water. It's really not good to itch it. I'ver read about stuff like that you know. It could be something really bad," she said with an ominous voice before giggling and shaking her head. "It just looks like a skin rash to me."
Vanyel lingered a bit as they got back to the shop room, looking longingly at the lime cup before turning to look at the door out. "I think I should go. I think maybe Kitten wants to take me shopping," Vanyel said less than pleasantly.
