I don't remember her name, but the Japanese woman who sings on teh three hour Syphonic CD does a good job without knowing English. she did it phonetically. but yeah, Lea's damned good. Actually, I think I liked Debbie Gibson when I saw her as Eponine.

Lea Salonga is so awesome as Eponine. Her voice is pure magic, and she makes you feel so sorry for her! Power to the Filipina actors!

I grew up listening to Shimada's version, so she's my favorite.

Frances Ruffelle, the original english Eponine. I love Lea but she's a li'l too American and although I know that Eponine's supposed to be strong and tough and all that, I prefer the softer more vulnerable tone that Ruffelle's voice has that Salonga's doesn't.

I agree with you. Frances Ruffelle, has a vulnerablity that Eponine really needs to sell the character.

Frances Ruffelle talk2hand I don't really like Lea Salonga... her voice just doesn't sound right... Not bad by any stretch...just not right. I guess because I'm so used to the London cast. I just prefer Frances Ruffelle's softer, british voice.

Yeah...like American accents sound REALLY strange...but Lea Salonga's even more so because it's so pronounced. However, I loved her in Miss Saigon. cool
