It had been a very long time since the ice demon Evara was sealed within a solid block of ice by her own son, Winter Star. Over time the ice block was entombed in a black cave that branched in many directions. But now warmth was entering her tomb and the ice was starting to melt. Drip by drip and drop by drop the block slowly cracked and crumbled. Dark, unblinking eyes started to blink and ears swivel in their chutes.

Yes, after centuries I will be free! Evara though as she tested her limbs, they budged. Soon my son, after all this time, Mother will be free once more and you better be careful.

It seemed almost like a dream as time passed slowly within her frozen state, sustained by the cold of son's inherited powers. Evara had been the worse of the worse. The grounds trembled at her coming and Ice was all that coated the ground as far as the eye could see. But her reign was about to end the night she met Star's father. A lowly earth bound stallion who knew no better, but that one night stand ended badly. The stallion perished while she was left to care for the little foal that would spell her down fall.

'CRACK'

The splitting of ice cut through her thoughts as a large chunk broke free. The chunk slipped and crashed to the ground, half her face now free from the block. It was enough, enough to escape.

Outside Evara's tomb, clouds had started gather and blacken. Even the wind started to pick up and pitch the trees from side to side. Leaves rustling, it was soon a full out gale as dust started to pick up and swirl around the cave entrance. With the ice crumbling, all hell was about to break loose upon the world once again. Lightening flashed as the soundless storm raged over the mountains.

It was still sunny where a pale blue and white haired stallion stood grazing in the shade of a great pine. Winter Star had forgotten about how things had been in his past, really it was non-existent at this time. He had found someone whom he thought he loved, even if she didn't love him or anything. They had two kids and now they even had mates and children. Lost within his own world, Winter Star had forgotten about the block of ice that was still back in the caves.

Tail flicking behind her casting small sparkles that could have been snow before it vanished. Stopping where he was grazing, his ears twitched and eyes averted to the sky. It seemed clear, but something told him that something was wrong, terribly wrong.

What is going on? Winter asked himself looking off towards the mountains that had been his home. Oh no... he remembered with eye opening shock and the snow swirling about his body and drifting towards the tomb.

The wind slacked for a moment before whipping up again, Winter stood outside the whirling winds staring at the entrance to the caves that had once been his home. Water ran in streams from within and he knew, he knew that he had forgotten about something important. His mother, she was awakening after all this time he had been able to keep her imprisoned. Breaking through the whirling dust and splashing through the streams of cold water Winter headed in. The first thing he heard was the cracking of Ice, the block was crumbling, but how far was it? His answer was going to be answered soon, and he wasn't about to like it.

"Mother!" Winter shouted against the wind that whistled and screamed through the many tunnels of the tomb. Rounding the corner to the tomb he was too late the ice was just about gone. What was he to do? Even know his abilities wouldn't work. "No, you can't be freed."

The icy colored mare turned her horned head towards the stallion whom stood below her. Yes, Evara stood a head taller then even her fully grown son. Those dark purple eyes glared down upon him as plumes of cold mist escaped her nostrils. Letting her fore-hooves reach the ground, given she had been on her hind legs for centuries, it felt good. Hind hooves kicking free of the ice, Evara roared out as a blinding light forced Winter to flee from the caves. Once outside the light exploded from the ceiling as the mare rose on a pillar of ice, her purple hair bellowing out behind her tied with blue ribbons.

"Yes my pathetic son, I am Free!" Evara said glaring down at the stallion whom caused her misery. "And now you shall pay, this whole world shall pay!" She cried leaping from the pillar into the forest, trees turning to ice in her passing. The ice stretching as far as it could with each step the icy demon, she was free and this world was about to know her wrath starting with those of the open plain.
