User ImageSearching didn’t take long, Lilith was able to find a good thick root covered in moss to soften the blow to Lullaby’s teeth, for once in her life Lilith felt the excitement one would normally feel to their first day of work. She was going to be able to such advancements in her field, wait her field was protecting her alpha wasn’t it? She was his sword, oh this meant next time she sees Sam she’ll have to thoroughly bring up her logically point in becoming his shield. Rushing back to her den Lilith dropped the thick root near Lullaby, it would have been much better if she had water on call but she’s worked in worse conditions.

“I wish for you to take this root into your mouth and bite down when the pain becomes unbearable.” And the pain will become unbearable, massaging a sore area will hurt more then when they first got the wound but with Lilith’s skills she can fix that. There was no, ‘hopefully’ in Lilith’s vocabulary it was pure logic and forward thinking, mistakes weren’t tolerable. She would begin with a light massage to detect his muscle location is normal, then a more pressure filled one to detect pain and then a spot on pressure and point release system to engage what damage has been done to the leg and see what has to be done to heal it.

User ImageIt wasn't very long before Lullaby heard Lilith heading back towards him. He felt increasingly nervous about what she was to do to him, but he took solace in the idea that she wouldn't hurt his jaw if he said he didn't want it to happen. So far, he had only agreed to see how she helped his leg.

"Welcome back." he greeted her with a slight smile, taking notice of the object she had brought back for him to bite down on when he was in pain. This was a frightening prospect, but he was resigned to let her follow through on this. He was on her packlands, in her den, and she wanted to help him.

"So is this the beginning of a successful friendship?" he grinned, lying back and taking the bit of root and moss in his mouth, at the ready for her to begin her treatment. He extended his injured leg, the scars rolling over the muscle, visible under the thinly regrown fur.

Nodding to the wolf Lilith went straight for his leg inspecting the scars thoroughly, this would explain the pain if his leg had healed incorrectly. The wound might have been deep and with his continuous wolf needs he would have had to walk on the healing wound, nodding Lilith seem to follow through with this explanation. Placing her paws gentle on the healed area Lilith massaged around feeling the wrongly healed muscles.

As her pressure continued Lilith didn’t pay much attention to the wolf below her, until that is he mentioned an odd thing she had heard about during her life time. ‘Friendship?’ Frowning Lilith let off the leg for a moment glancing back at the wolf’s face, “What is… this friendship you speak of?”

Lullaby did his best to relax and lie still as Lilith prodded at his leg. It was odd, he thought, that he couldn't remember the last time anyone had willingly touched him. But here she was, more interested in him than anyone had been in a very long time, even if it was mostly just his leg she was observing.

"Friendship?" he paused a moment, a bit confused at her question. "Well, friendship is... being friends... y'know, enjoying each other's company, talking to each other. Spending time together even when you don't have to, just cause you wanna." he smiled a bit as he looked up at her, explaining what friends were. How strange that a loner such as himself had to explain that concept to a wolf who was part of an obviously large pack. Didn't she have friends here?

Frowning Lilith couldn’t help but take pause, “Friends? What is… friends?” She truly had no idea what he was talking about, being with someone just to be with them? Having the want to care for another or be there for them is an oddity in itself. She could never remember having the urge to go to another to be there for them, be there for them for what though? What would they do together?

The only thing her pack needed of her was to mate with another, to insure more wolves become part of their pack. It was odd to think of life as any other way when you have lived like that your whole life, “Explain this further to me.” His leg forgotten for a moment Lilith wished to further this dissuasion into a depth that she could understand more fully.

The wolf cocked his head, lifting it from its resting position on the cool dirt floor. The female had stopped her minstrations on his hip, and had asked a very strange question of him. "Friends keep each other company, so there's no loneliness. Friends are happy to see each other, to spend time together. I... guess friends are wolves who like to spend time with each other, you know? Caring for each other, having fun, watching out for each other." he tried his best to explain better for her to understand.

"We could be friends!" he chirped, extending his leg further for her to inspect. He was eager to begin the treatment, to feel better hopefully. He waited to drop his head to the ground again until she had answered. Hopefully he wouldn't be left hanging for too long by the female who was giving him so much help with his problems.

Lullaby’s logic didn’t make much sense to Lilith, who would feel alone in any way when in this world so full of many things? Glancing back at Lullaby’s leg Lilith continued her massaging and as the time went on the realization that she might have to open his leg up was creeping upon her. She didn’t feel sorry for the male but she did feel a sense of understanding with him. His mention of friendship made Lilith think about a wolf’s brain pattern, wondering about how one could possible feel lonely or even wish to help others in a time of need in which was only emotionally induced.

“Your offer of friendship is unnecessary and meaningless.” But as she furthered her studies with Lullaby’s leg and thought of her little understanding outside her pack she was starting to wish to take back her spoken word. “But… maybe I am wrong and this form of ‘friendship’ can further help my studies of the working wolf mind.”

At first, Lullaby felt hurt at her response, but quickly decided he wasn't going to be that way. She was an odd sort, and he would just have to get used to that. "Fine fine, but I will still call you my friend." he insisted quietly, as was his nature. "I trust you, and care for you."

He smiled as she spoke a second time, admitting that she may be wrong. That was unlike any female he had ever come across - none of them would ever admit they may be wrong, ever. He dropped his wide head back to the ground and waited to see what she would do next.

"How's it coming then, doc?" he asked, assigning her a nickname in hopes of opening up to her more.

For once Lilith could feel her cheeks heat, why was her temperature raising? Was she getting sick? Maybe she had caught something from that Rock pup earlier… Pushing the thought aside, she had taken the right needs to stay away from him to not catch anything so that wasn’t it.

Was this how friendship affected one? “I feel strange but it is not affecting my progress on your leg, I may have to open your leg.” And if Lilith further massages his leg that ‘may’ will become a ‘yes I will’, “It will hurt, so bite the root when it does.” It’s not that she felt for him but she did feel that his pain was her problem now. She didn’t want his pain… What did she want from him then?

He smiled at her and noted that when her nose or paws touched him, they felt warmer for some reason. He nodded at her instruction, wondering if it could possibly hurt worse than when he was wounded initially. Though he didn't remember it, his leg did. He had dreams where he was wounded over and over again, in the same fashion. His assailant had always been a black ghost cloud, shaped vaguely like a wolf with pinned ears and glowing blue eyes.

He readied the root in his teeth, noting that it tasted earthy and clean. Had it been raining when Lilith had picked it up for him? It was odd how things seemed to stay the same when you were down in the dark, underground. "Ready." he mumbled around the edges of the mossy root, though he was unsure if he was actually ready or not.

As he waited, he closed his eyes, thinking that if she took him by surprise, it would be better than watching and knowing instantly. His thoughts turned to the human who had helped him before, and his new pack. He wondered why he had left them all over again, but now that he was in the care of this mysterious female, he felt that he had made the correct choice. Now he wondered if the alpha would accept him into the pack, and if he would be able to function after Lilith's procedure on his leg, well enough to not feel so worthless within the structure.

Glancing back to her new ‘friend’ Lilith took into account the dread she could feel from him… Or was it herself that was feeling dread? She had opened wolves before, she had even looked at a wolf’s brain but a simple task like open another’s leg was making her feel… Pressure? Was it the new found friendship she felt for him that was making her feel this way? Was this how friendship was supposed to make one feel? Like if she messed up she would forever have to watch and listen to his distaste with her.

Why did that matter to her so much? Pushing the thoughts away Lilith peered down into Lullaby’s fur pressing for an area in which was perfect for the starting cut. ‘Found one’ Lilith thought as she put pressure in the area she was about to cut, she could feel her body start to shake… Why? Growling a bit Lilith bit her tongue and cut into the wolfs leg, slowly. Putting her other paw on the end she hoped to keep the male still as she cut and moved the muscles around.

She would have to work quickly but in her rush to fix him had forgotten an herb that she needed to help the process of his healing. Glancing around Lilith noticed the lot of blood spilling into the ground, she had to work faster. Luckily she was able to find moss and other herds that could work just as easily for her to close the wound and stop the bleeding the muscles on the other hand hopefully heal in the right ‘way’ this time for Lullaby.

Grabbing from herbs and moss with her mouth Lilith pressed it into Lullaby’s open wound before putting some pressure on it with a few rocks, luckily they weren’t too heavy and wouldn’t bruise the healing muscle. Leaning back Lilith let out a pant she didn’t know she was holding in, she had done it? The wound was closed and covered, would heal nicely… He just wouldn’t be able to walk around for a good while. Part of her shook though, would Lullaby be pleased? Why did she want his approval?

Sucking it up Lilith looked back to Lullaby, her breath hitched and for once Lilith felt…. Happy? She hadn’t realized it before but looking at Lullaby now made Lilith happy, she wasn’t alone… It had never bothered her before but now… She was in a new place; a new world even with things she didn’t know about and Lullaby was here to help her… “You are done.” Lilith smiled nodding to her friend.

Lullaby tried his hardest to continue thinking of his journey, his past life, while his new friend cut into his leg. He felt dizzy after just a bit, but concentrating on biting the root she had brought him kept him conscious for the most part. Every move she made with his leg was one of searing pain, but Lullaby let her continue, grunting occasionally when he felt the need to move.

He could feel her packing the wound, and wondered vaguely what she was putting in his leg. Further more, how would he heal? His question was answered when she was done, and positioned his leg between two rocks, holding the edges of her cut closed. Genius, he thought.

"Oh, wow." he breathed, the pain still heavy in his body. "How long will it be this painful?" he asked her, hoping for a positive answer, or really, an answer at all. He wondered if she intended to leave him here alone. She had said she would take care of him, but now he worried, now that things were said and done.

The wolf wasn't so sure now about the procedure with his jaw, but figured he would see if he could live through this before making any final decisions. Meanwhile, he rubbed his cheek against the cool floor, not daring to look at his leg, fearful that any movement might jostle the rocks holding the wound together, and open it back up. He would be happy if it never had to be touched again.

Looking back to the wound Lilith frowned for a moment, she could probably find something to ease the pain for him, “If you give me a moment I can give you something for the pain. Soon the herbs I put in there should take affect though and start the numbing process. I still suggest you stay like this for a good week before starting to move around.”

Rushing off Lilith Searched quickly for the herb and rushed back making sure not to swallow any on the way back. “This will help with the numbing of pain; it will also help you sleep.” She could make a more powerful batch for him if he wished to go ahead with her fixing his jaw.

Glancing around Lilith took note that most herbs she needed and used would be found in their caves, which was a good thing and easy enough thing. Looking back to Lullaby Lilith let a slow smile curve her mouth, “I am… willing to care for you if needed?” That’s what friends were supposed to say right? And do? Be there for the other.

“This is the form of friendship yes?” she wanted to make sure, wasting time was not something Lilith did often. She knew enough to get ahead and become the best of this ‘friendship’ she could be.

Lullaby waited patiently as Lilith ran to get herbs. He was distressed, obviously, but stayed as still as possible, not wanting his leg to open up once again. If they could work together to keep the flesh and muscle together to heal back properly, this may be a success, but he wouldn't hope on it too fervently this soon.

The average-sized male attempted to take steady, controlled breaths as he waited for the female to return, hoping it to be soon. When she finally did come back, he felt a light sense of relief.

Opening his eyes once more to gaze upon her face, he smiled as she offered him the herbs. After struggling a bit to eat the bitter plants, he listened to her speak. "Please, yes. I won't be able to care much for myself, Lilith." he answered, his eyes feeling tired the more time he spent speaking.

He smiled at her next question, and nodded his head, brushing his cheek once again in the dusty ground. "I'm very sleepy, my friend." his eyes were closed now, and he felt as though he was floating away somewhere nice and cool. His leg was numb now, and for that he was eternally grateful. Lullaby was asleep before he could say his own name.

The days went by quickly for Lilith, waking up hunting and taking it back to Lullaby. Feeding him was a hard thing, she had to crush his food with a rock which was harder said than done but she was able to do it enough so it was easier for him to eat. She was practicing to make sure the feed was able for him to eat and fulfilling enough that when/if she fixed his jaw she could still care for him. Still care for him? Is that what she wants? To take care of him? Lilith couldn’t help but let that thought bring joy to her; it was a nice emotion… joy.

The days turned into weeks and still Lilith was confused of this form of relationship between wolves. It was nice though, welcoming and warm… So very warm. His healing was of course at the top of her list but it slowly started to slip and was replaced with… Friendship? The wolf didn’t know but liked to believe that’s what it was.
