As you guys might know by now, I was pretty active on Second Life for a while. I fell out of touch with it, but recently someone signed up and yelled at me to actually make good on my sincere but ultimately unmotivated promises to craft Kilo and PQ on their system. I started with Kilo, since she's easier for me. I already had the shape (since I made X a while ago), and I obviously know the character better.

Anyway, she's not done yet, but I held a little photo shoot with myself to give you an idea of what I've been working on. All that's left really are details, like rank insignias and OMNIDRINK logo customization. And the boots. I want to ultimately have blue details in most of the gear, but I need to get my arse back on the texturing train. Also I need to get me a better shotgun. My Mossberg is great and all, but it glitches into the heavy armor like whoa.

Album. I recommend looking at them at full size. They're pretty. whee

Cool things that can't really be shown in the pictures:
-My eyes glow, and they pulse a little. It's kind of creepy.
-The flashlight turns on and off when you click on it, and hilariously enough it doesn't have to be me that does it. So anyone nearby can turn it on and off at will (non-consensual rave parties/seizures neutral ).
-All four of the weapons shown (the nightstick, the gun, the knife, and the blade) do damage, though the sword doesn't really work in my left and like that without being really stupid looking.
-My gas mask has steam breaths coming out the outtake and makes breathing noises. The noises drive me crazy though, so I usually turn that off. xd
-The sword's glow also pulses. It's a lot cooler looking in world than in the pictures.

Also, here is X. Those are old, though. I'll get better shots of her later. I'll also be sure to post updates when Kilo is done (with and without mask to come) and progress shots of PQ once I get started on that long haul. gonk

If anyone is on SL and not telling me, my name is Peach Leitner. Add me. surprised

I'm hoping I can do justice to PQ.

The one thing I know right off the bat I can't promise is that I'll be able to give you whatever I make. I'm going to try, but with the way perms are set I can't assume everything I use will be transfer enabled, and I'm definitely not skilled enough to make everything myself.

I do plan to at the very least try and make the head transferable to you, though. 3nodding

EDIT: Ooooooh after this is done, I'm going to make Victor. He wears the exact same clothes, so all I'll have to do is make a shape up for him and then resize everything. And maybe personalize his gear a little.

The last (and first) time I made a male on Second Life, Pie hit on me, though. neutral

A couple options.

If you want to go from scratch, then for items that are solid attachments (like almost everything I'm wearing there) you can create simple "prims" (they're the building blocks of everything) in game and manipulate their dimensions. You can't get overly complex with these, since they're basically just simple 3-D shapes that are warped within certain parameters, but you can also input 3-D texture maps to create "sculpty" prims. Things like the lenses of my mask or the parts that make up the hilt of my sword would be normal prims. The mask's face and my beret would be sculpties. You can make and apply textures to each individual prim (for sculpties this is a b***h, for others it's just a matter of positioning things correctly), and then you can link them to create a large object (for example, each shotgun shell in my vest's bandolier is a separate prim, with the band itself being its own prim linked to the bigger white prim that is the body piece).

There are also clothes and skin layers that texture the contours of the avatar's body (which is manipulated through an in-world menu). The body armor and gloves visible on my arms is an example of that, and all that's needed for that is knowledge of where things will map on the avatar's body to make a texture file (a digital image that you can upload). An "object" usually consists of several linked prims and can be attached to any of the set attachment points on the avatar's body. There are limited slots, but any item can be attached to any point, and as long as you're aware that it will be physically tied to the point you set it to, you can use that to your advantage. For example, my beret is linked to my mouth, my mask to my chin and the ski mask underneath to one of my ears, leaving the skull point open for hair. Since all of those features always move in the same way, nothing ever looks weird, but if I tied my beret to my hand, it would move all over the place whenever I moved that hand.

I could type up pages in more detail, but I don't want to waste space. That's a really kind of basic run down, and it helps to see things in-world, but that's the gist of it. If it makes any sense. gonk

I don't know how/don't have the programs needed to make sculpties, but I do know how to manipulate the building system and can make my own textures enough to be able to add the accessories I want to and to customize items I've bought to my own needs. A lot of the items I have are hodgepoge Frankenstein mixes of multiple items I own, where I pull pieces off of one thing and link them to another to create something entirely new.

Ash - I never want the RP to transfer over to SL. I much prefer text based RP like this to the more live action feel of it on SL. It's fun to model characters like that and have them interact, but for the core RP, I really want to stay in the forums.

So don't worry. You won't be missing out or anything. xd

@_____@;;; I'll stick to animating.

I don't think I'll survive making items in second life without going nuts over NURBs (I hate nurbs). I remember that using NURBs was one way to make a sculpty.

In other news, I've heard the SL was going to add meshes into the game. If they allow meshes to be imported in Black's gonna be a happy witch.

Can't live without split polygon and extrude when making any object in 3d. D8

EDIT: Just joined SL. Galatea Cypress . . . . . D8< I not like the camera.

If you're using the SL Viewer 2.0, the camera blows. A lot. Use Emerald. They use the old camera controls.

Also, one thing that helps a lot is "alt-camming." If you hold alt, click and hold on an object, you can cam all around it with the mouse.
