Why can't there just be a horror movie like back in the time of the original night of the dead or even a remake of frankenstein even though that is a little tacky why not?

Because the previous generations will never be like the current generation. Cultures evolve, things that were once considered grotesque are now part of modern society, and perspectives and viewpoints will forever change. That's why.

I thought the original Night of the Living Dead was rather retarded. I honestly don't see how it was that great of a hit because it originally was a low budget cut film that they expected to bomb and the complete opposite happened. Original Frakenstein was interesting at best, but then again I grew up in a time period where I'm used to watching blood and guts and outrageous torture scenes etc etc so something old like Frankenstein isn't going to have the same appeal. Why? because it goes back to that point about how we're in a different generation.

But then again that's not necessarily a bad thing either. I think the things we have today are done a LOT better than "back in the day" and I guess it really depends on opinion and perspective because Hellraiser is a classic. It was back in the 80's but it came out long after the original NOTLD you mentioned and Frankenstein. Even a movie like The Amityville Horror that came out in 79' has a lot more appeal. It wasn't scary, but it did things in such a way that it left the feeling that something was crawling under your skin. What it really boils down to is that, its not that we're incapable of reproducing classic content from the 50's or something, its more of is there anyone out there that has the right mindset to reproduce that type of content? I believe so. Asia sure is doing things right because there are some asian films out there that really leave you on the edge of your seat. Audition was definitely one of them. Aside from Asian film, a movie that comes to mind is Misery. Misery was fantastic. It has the most basic simplest plot but it was pulled off just right and it left you uncomfortable, constantly wondering what was going to happen next.

Umm... you really don't know what you're talking about, Elena. King Kong remake? Clash of the Titans remake? The Day the Earth Stood Still remake? Granted, all those remakes pretty much sucked and didn't compare to their originals, but still. Remaking old s**t from the 30s and on is very in right now. And they did remake Night of the Living Dead back in the 90s (haven't seen it myself). I'd just stick to the original, because it's classic. But don't be surprised if you see another Frankenstein remake sometime in the future. ********, I'd love to see a remake of the original Invisible Man movie adaptation. Love the book, love the movie, and wouldn't mind seeing a modern day one if they do it right.

I thought the latest King Kong remake was pretty good...

The Night of the Living Dead remake is effing fantastic. It was directed by Mr. Tom Savini, the legendary makeup artist who worked on such films as the original Dawn of the Dead and the original Friday the 13th (He also plays Sex Machine in From Dusk Til Dawn lol), and stars Mr. Tony "Candyman" Todd as Ben. The remake scared the hell outta me as a kid, and it still gets to me as an adult, what with it's effectively creepy atmosphere and music.

Lol, Frankenstein IS being remade in the near future. But don't worry! Guillermo Del Toro is working on it, so you know to expect something fantastic from it.

~

American horror sucks nowadays because we think fast motions and loud noises is what scares people, and J-Horror sucks because they don't know how to create atmosphere for shi* (I have watched Ju-On, Ju-On: The Grudge, Ringu, and The Eye. Yawn.). Rely on France for your modern horror fix, if I were you.

I thought the King Kong remake was decent, but I didn't like the way they handled the realtionship between King Kong and the girl. Girls don't fall in love with giant apes, it just doesn't happen. xd In the remake, after he busts out and is reeking all sorts of havok throughout the city, with the friggin' military on his a**, she just willingly comes back to him with open arms. "Yay! Pick me up, and swing me around like a rag dog while the military shoots at us!" In the original, she wanted nothing to do with King Kong and was screaming her head off the entire time, like any normal person would do in that situation. Sure, she felt sorry for him just like the rest of the audience... but he's a giant friggin' ape scaling buildings and ******** s**t up.

Dude, I know who Tom Savani is. xD That makes me more interested in checking out the remake now. I heard from a trusted source it sucked, though. Which is why I never looked into it before. I'll have to take a look at it now.

Haha, no s**t? Well, there ya go.

Hell yeah. Ever seen Delicatessen? I think that's French. Maybe it was Italian... it's been a while. But that was an awesome movie. I guess it's not really horror per se, though. More like a black comedy. Anyway, where could I find that movie translated? It looks pretty sick.

I, umm...Never saw the original King Kong sweatdrop , so I just presumed that's just how it happened in the original. Lol.

Just wanted to make sure I said Tom Savini and you didn't go "Who the f*** is that?!" xd I wont underestimate you anymore.

Your trusted source sucks might have made a mistake on this one (We'll see after you watch it).

Haven't seen Delicatessen. I'll look into it.

And you can find a copy of Martyrs at any Best Buy or perhaps Blockbuster. I don't remember if you can watch it in English audio, but it def has English subtitles.

To watch Martyrs and not rave about it is unfathomable. It's just that f***ing good. Watch it asap.

um dude? firstly I can't stand the King Kong movies. I'm sorry but even the original classic...a movie about a giant ape? yeah...real exciting. I don't get much joy out of movies about giant animals, like Godzilla. xP yeah yeah hate me all you want, but I can't stand the movies. Too boring. And actually I just so happen to LIKE the remakes of the Clash of the Titans AND The Day the Earth Stood Still, having previously seen the older versions. So we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I didn't think the remakes were THAT bad. In fact one particular movie that comes to mind I thought was beautifully remade?

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Its been remade I think two times now. Original: Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1st Remake: Body Snatchers and 3rd starring Nichole Kidman: The Invasion. The first remake was mediocre, but I thought the one starring Nichole Kidman was awesome. And the remake to The Day the Earth Stood Still, okay so they didn't have the epic "klatu verada nicto" part or whatever but it for the most part stuck to the same story. I like them, what can I say? I'm not saying their perfect or anything, but out of the remakes for DTEST and COTT, Invasion of the Body Snatchers with the second remake owns both.

As for the Invisible Man, yeah the remake starring Kevin Bacon was it? I love Kevin. He's awesome, but the movie ARGH! The Invisible Man is probably the only old time story I have ever read since you're FORCED to read novels in school. I get no joy out of reading unfortunately. I'd rather write, but that book was one of them. I think I've seen part of the oldies movie to the book as well, but I don't remember much of it. I hope they do a remake that's worthy in the future.

Um, what? The only real point I was making is that they are "reproducing classic content" on a regular basis in Hollywood. Chase even confirmed a forthcoming Frankenstein remake. And I hate to say this, but if they produced such better content now than back then, why is it that they're doing so many remakes of the classic stuff from "back in the day"?

Good for you, you don't like King Kong. I myself am not a huge fanatic for it or anything. I do like it for what it is, though. And I definitely appreciate the original for the s**t it pioneered and its historical significance. I could go into all that, but clearly you'd have no appreciation for anything of that sort, so I won't bother. I haven't seen the remake of Day the Earth Stood Still, but if you actually liked the Clash of the Titans remake, or worse, actually thought it was a better film than the original, I just... *facepalm* whatever. I can't help you.

I think you got your Invasion of the Body Snatchers confused. Anyway, the first remake -- the 1978 Invasion of the Body Snatchers -- is the best one. Anyone who knows anything knows that. Awesome ending. The other two remakes sucked horribly, especially the one starring Nicole Kidman.

That's Hollow Man. And that's not a remake. Are you sure you read the book in high school?

Well, Frankenstein has been redone a few times. I mean, there are at least 3 versions that I've seen.

And I know there was already a King Kong remake in the 1980s. Little tidbit for gamers out there. When Universal wanted to remake King Kong, they went to court to petition that King Kong was so iconic that he should be considered Public Domain. The court approved, which is why they were allowed to make the movie.
Then, Nintendo made Donkey Kong, and Universal tried to sue them for using King Kong's likeness, claiming that they owned it.
Needless to say, Universal got b***h slapped by Nintendo.

let me reiterate what im saying. what i was trying to say is that just because the things back then were good, doesn't mean we cant make things today that aren't just as good. its just, like usual, i went into an over detailed explanation of that.

but hey hey now, I didn't say the Clash of the Titans remake was "better". I just said it wasn't THAT bad. I thought it was a decent remake. It didn't super excite me....I mean it gave me the same excitement level as the original, but it wasn't bad either. As for Invasion of the Body Snatchers....okay so there WAS a third one. Cuz I remember years ago....okay I saw the original, then I saw a remake and that one was just called "Body Snatchers" and then I've seen the Nicole Kidman one. But a third one....yeah I've got some movie renting to do. I don't know. I really liked the Nicole Kidman one, and so did my dad and he's a baby boomer and if HE appreciates it...... Well anyway I think my point is getting lost. We'll agree to disagree. But yeah I read the Invisible Man novel, not in highschool but in Middle School. We were forced to choose a novel of our liking so I picked that one. I mean how many novels of it are out there? I definitely remember the ending to the novel. See if this explanation sounds familiar: so basically the invisible man at the very end he was shot by a policeman...or someone. but yeah he got shot and he died, but it turns out when the police found him, his body started to come back to visibility because he was desperately trying to find a cure to his condition to be seen again. So it was a sad ironic ending. Does that sound familiar? Its the only thing I remember from the novel I read.

A great remake could be of undead or alive a zombie movie based in the old west the original was in like 1960 or so and was more a comedy but the remake could be more serious and look way better.
