Peach and all her greatness goes here, discuss her attacks and strategies.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 18, 2006 3:50 pm

Some Peach basics: (aside from general L-cancel etc.)

Double Jump cancel: The first thing you need to understand to play a good Peach is how use her DJC; basically you can interrupt her second jump with a move. This leads to faster nair out of shield (usually better punishment than shieldgrab) or it can be used to get in closer for that uair or nair.
Also, if you hold a direction while you do the double jump she has a twirl at the beginning which allows you to sort of move in any direction you want, so you can do a fade-away or you can get up close really fast (crucial for uair), you can even use this for airdodge and do a wavedash upon landing for spacing.

Double Jump Land: Remeber the twirl? If you do the second jump within 4 frames of the 1st jump you won't go anywhere, the double jump actually lowers a little allowing you to land afterwards. (This is the fastest way to do anything other than grab out of shield).

Float Cancel: The bread and butter of Peach play. Quite simple really. Do a float near the ground, do an aerial while floating, stop floating and hit the ground before the aerial ends (fastfall usually). That's it, now instead of the regular lag (around 7-10 frames) you end up with 4 frames of lag. That's right, the same animation as a regular landing animation; this can give you frame advantage because the shield stun from your aerial is usually longer than your recovery time.

Grabs: Her grab range is speed is all pretty average, so jump cancelled grabs are typically what to do, however, running grabs are important too.

Upthrow: destroys fastfallers, leads to downsmash after about 10%, leads to chain throw at about 50%. Chain throw ends at about 100%. Not much of an option on floaties.

Downthrow: techchasing for fastfallers, can combo sometimes on the rest.

Fthrow: kills at the edge of FD at 80% with no DI, great throw.

Back throw: does 1% more damage than the others, good for throwing them off the edge, not much else usually.

IASA dair: during dair (most aerials infact) you cancel it into another move. For dair it's at the end of the last kick. You can drop a turnip or go into an aerial. If they crouch cancel they usually can shield the aerial.
Other uses for dair include edguarding (float right at the lip of the edge, her hitboxes are pretty big). Usually works on fastfallers only.

typically good Peach stages:
Dreamland 64
Final Destination
Mute City

In general, you want a high ceiling to prevent vertical KO (she's floaty), and some space on the sides. Avoid Green Greens, it has low ceiling and short sides. If I think of any other dstages ot avoid I'll say (other than the banned stages).

What seperates a truly good Peach from the rest is DI, proper DI makes her escape combos and live really long.

Float

Total: 150 frames
If you voluntarily end the float, you
can do nothing from frames 2-5 (frame
1 being the first frame you aren't
holding jump) and an attack started
on frame 1 will be float cancelled.

If the float ends naturally, you can
do nothing frames 1-5

Air time: 59
Earliest FF: 30
FF air time: 46

SH air time: 42
Earliest FF: 22
SH FF air time: 29
-------------------------------------
Because Peach's second jump has a dip
at the beginning, she can land while
doing it, but instead of her landing
animation, it will go to her waiting
animation, which means there is no
lag, excepting that if you press any
button on the frame you land, Peach
will go to her landing animation.

These numbers assume a short hop, as
it is easier and more effective

When you press jump : when you land

1st frame in the air: 1 frame later
2nd frame in the air: 3 frames later
3rd frame in the air: 5 frames later

Moving forward increases dip SLIGHTLY
and may reduce above numbers by 1.
Moving back may decrease dip SLIGHTLY
and may increase above numbers by 1

I was unable to achieve 100%
consistency except with no movement
-------------------------------------
Taunt

Total: 85

Air Dodge
invulnerable 4-19 out of 49

Ground dodge
invulnerable 2-18 out of 27

Roll

Run turnaround: 24
Turn-jump threshold: 12

Nice job on the guide, I've only just recently been practicing DJCing to use her F-air, up until now I generally avoided using it.

So is it more effective to explode out of a shield with a DJC N-air?

Thanks for the comment.

DJC nair out of shield is really, really fast. ANd typically better than a shield grab. If you try to actually float it'll probably come out slow.

SO, say a Shiek dash attacks you. . . DJC nair out of shield usually the best option. ALso, you can mix it up with double jump landing (double jump in the first 4 frames to land on the ground) into dsmash, and once you have fooled them into shield that (if they can), double jump land grab or shield grab.

Best thing about DJC fair is that you can do a retreating fair.

Nice guide.
I wanted to start peach as my third but after playing sheik and doc for ages, its hard as to use someone who is generally slower. I aslo tried for fox but that didn't work either. So I'm sticking with my crappy falco in hopes that I'll learn something off arc.
