~ Feed your fish 1-2 times a day, as much as it/they can eat in a few minutes
~ Never over feed your fish. Just like its not healthy for us to be over weight, its not healthy for fish to be over weight. Fasting every week or so is a good way to keep a fish's weight in check
~ Only keep compatilbe fish together. Ones that are simularly sized and with simular temperments are good starter fish for those just starting out.
~ Dont over stock your tank. Too many fish in a tank can do wierd things to fish, and some will go a little crazy. Its also like a huge welcome sign for diseases, like ICH
Feel free to add anything. I'm just going by things I think of right now, so I could be missing some things. Also, I you want to start a thread about a certain type of fish, like say Guppies, go back out to the sub-forum "Fish Care" and post it there smile

steed1172 an addition to fasting.. feed peas (de-shelled) as a laxative night before or morning of "fasting" Oh yeah! They can be frozen ones too. Nothing special. Make sure they are thawed out and cut to fishy-bite-sized peices before feeding. One pea per fish should be good.

My addition is, no one "rule" or tip applies to every fish, so do your thorough research on each and every fish before you bring them home. The same should go for any pet.

Oh yes, lots and lots of research. A good example are Bettas. Some can live just fine in a comunity tank, while others will kill anything that moves

Bettas can be hard to guage. All of mine have been fine in communities,. but my boyfriend's uncle has one that flares like crazy whenever you go to look at him. I bet he'd be so vicious with other fish...
