So, finally beat the Elite Four and then got myself to Kanto.
....
*insert cricket chirps*
.....

...So, do you battle the gyms in order, or is there a method to this madness, and why the heck is Steven talking to me about Latios?

Actually, you don't get that much freedom as you like. xD I found myself walking a pretty linear route in the end towards collecting all the badges. And I ignored Latios. Stupid whatsit. D<

Though Kanto was a breeze for me. Even the last gym. Then I found Red. Then I was slaughtered by Red. ;.; I hate levelling my Pokemon by running around in the grass but I have no choice.

Screw you level 88 Pikachu!

Actually there is a better method of getting exp. you could either go threw the long time with the Elite four, or go to the bridge in kanto, where there are fishermen, and fish for the exp. Ive already lv. up around 30 pokemon. Gives me 450 with tentacools, best in the show. haha.

By the way Slick, there's a easy way to find out where to go ;D Just go to Serebii.net ---> VideoGames ---> HGSS ---> Gyms ---> and scroll until you get to the Kanto gyms and they have the order set up for you! C: I had teh same problem when I got to Kanto in SS but then it was easy once I looked on Serebii

i believe I did the same thing using this site http://pokemon.marriland.com/hgss/walkthrough I was hoping I could stumble across a little more story before doing all the gyms. I stumbled around to get the train working first and getting a ticket. Then I started attacking the gyms.

Or you could call up the gym leaders, arrange a rematch and battle their 60-70 lvl pokemons cool Took me one try to take down Red.

I was using an online guide simply because I was kinda lost and it was ages since I played pokemon, but the guide, which was very useful, didn't cover the Kanto portion yet gonk
And then life caught up to me and I have been poodling around sense. Now I'm rebuilding my team, so I won't be battling any gyms yet, but that's good to know.

♥ | I haven't defeated any of the Kanto gyms yet. xd But you can get pretty much anywhere in Kanto without having the badges -- so I scurried down to Cinnabar Island and talked to the only gym leader I wanted to fight: Blue (Green!), and he was like, "How many Kanto badges do you have? ...0... You're not good enough to battle me yet." And I'm like, "Wut?! I could wipe the floor with you! D:<" I already defeated his precious Indigo Plateau which he was so happy to be champion of back in the day. You'd think he'd show a little more respect.

Anyway, it seems you can defeat the Kanto gym leaders in any order you want as long as you keep the Viridian City gym last. I know this always confused me in the original Gold/Silver/Crystal, too -- I ended up going whatever gym I arrived at next. Get off S.S. Anne in Vermillion City, go to Vermillion City gym. @_@

But if you want, you can challenge it the traditional way: Pewter, Cerulean, Vermillion, Celadon, Fuchsia, Saffron, Cinnabar, and then Viridian. Or the "Ash" way: Pewter, Cerulean, Vermillion, Saffron, Celadon, Fuchsia, Cinnabar, Viridian. You just have to know how to get where you want to get, but the only real obstacle is getting Snorlax outta the way of Diglett Cave (return the stolen part to the Power Plant manager east of Cerulean City -- then go talk to the guy at the Lavender Town Radio Tower to get the EXPN Card -- go to Snorlax, tune your radio to "Poké Flute," click on Snorlax, catch/defeat him/her, and done).

And like everyone else said, ignore Latias/Latios...I barely even remember Steven talking about that. @_@ | ♥
