"Please, you were not meant for me! I am not good enough for you." ---- said, almost begging. Shagatsu was now in tears.
"Please ----! Don't you see? It was my extraordinary luck that brought me here to you! Don't you see? I love you! I love you ----..."
"I'm sorry." She said and closed the Oikya doors. Shagatsu sat on the steps holding his head in his hands. His tears made the pale stone wet. He got up and walked to the forest. In a fit of blind rage, he ran into the forest, cutting a path through the small brush and trees with his hunting knife. He shortly came upon the area the pagoda once used for training. He found a tree that had been cut down above head height for some reason. He sat down hard upon the ground and lay against the tree. He cried quite hard for some time. He took out his large hunting knife and held it high in the air, the point facing downwards. With all of his might, he brought the knife down into his left side.. And missed.
"Damn cursed luck�" he said with a grimace. He turned around. The knife sticking out of the tree gave him an idea. He took his knife out of the tree and began to strip the tree of its bark. He began to carve. He carved with such vigor, he was sweating in minutes. His tears mixed with the light coat of sawdust on the ground. Night began to fall, but that did not stop him. In a moment's time, he had a small fire pit going. He went back to carving. He had not eaten nor drank in days because of ----. He had missed her so. At almost the first sign of light, Shagatsu was so tired, he fell to the ground. He got up again and grabbed his knife. He slipped and cut his arm deep. So tired, he did not even care. He bled a very large amount. He grabbed the top of his almost completed work for balance and finished the last lock of ----'s beautiful hair. Feeling faint, he looked at his masterpiece. His carving had taken the form of himself kneeling and holding a rose, and also of ----, looking away. He at last collapsed and slid down the carving. Ironically, his wound had dragged down from his carvings eye to the rose. His blood formed a sad looking tear and stained the rose a deep red. Half-conscious, he turned and leaned his back against the wood and whispered "I love you.." before closing his eyes. The first ray of light shone in through the hole in the canopy and illuminated Shagatsu and his work.

Ao-sagi jogged slowly over the training ground of the pagoda in the early morning chill, dappled by the slanting rays of the ascending sun falling through the canopy of the forest. She savoured the feeling of her long, free-flowing hair brushing against her back with every motion. It seemed to have taken an eternity of painful scrubbing and combing to get all the wax out of her maiko hairdo, but finally her hair was free and silky again... at least for a precious few hours, because today was the day to visit the salon in town to have it redone.
She sped up at the thought of having to undergo the unpleasant procedure again, long legs pumping, arms swinging wide. Walking around in a tightly wound kimono on high geta all week long had made her feel like a prisoner in shackles, and she intended to savour every minute of freedom spent on the grounds. She had been going too fast now and got winded, painful stitches in her side. A combat dummy came into sight, and she used the welcome opportunity to take a break by giving the straw-filled sack on a stick a playful leaping-kick in its lumpy belly... and yelped when the puppet swung around and hit back! She rubbed her side as she watched the ingenious contraption spin and wiggle around on invisible hinges, fueled by the impact of her blow, until it came to rest. "Oooooh, this is going to be fun!" she thought, giving the thing a soft nudge that set it in unpredictable motion again.
She threw some more playful punches and kicks --nothing a skilled karate-ka would do, but she was a mere dabbler in martial arts anyway-- and worked up a routine of half-hearted attacks, blocks and counterattacks, dancing around and around the target until she was completely out of breath. Feeling frisky, she gave it a final spinning kick to the head... and immediately felt the retribution in the form of a blow to the shoulder by the puppets flailing arm. All concern forgotten and visibly relaxed, she laughed and gave the target a mocking bow:
"Domo arigatou, puppet-san. Sayonara!" Languidly, she stretched and finally felt the vertebrae of her stiff neck pop into place again. "Curse that stupid hairdo and this torture device called neckrest!" She rolled her shoulders and then walked away down the path, circling back to the pagoda.
Or at least, she tried to...
"Damn, this does not look like the way back... Oh no..." Frustrated, she tucked at her hair. She had a knack for getting lost, but this was ridiculous. She spun around, trying the spot the roof of the pagoda, but she seemed to have wandered too far into the forest already.
"Curse my luck!" The path she was walking on was almost invisible, and she got really agitated - "If I miss my appointment at the salon, all hell will break loose!"- until she came across a freshly cut path through the underbrush. "Hmm... that's been done recently... so it will likely lead back to the pagoda..." she thought while following it... and stopped dead, dumbfounded, as she beheld the scene unfolding before her when she finally came across a clearing.
"I was a fool, and what I saw, made two fools out of me..." The famous one-liner flitted through her mind as she tried to believe what her eyes just saw.
A group of two statues graced the opening in the woods, obviously depicting a kneeling man and a woman, deftly hewn out of a single tree trunk, a few details finely carved. Getting closer and circling the marvel, she saw that the figure of the man was holding a carved rose that had been dyed brown with... dried blood?
She gasped as the body of a real man came into sight behind the wooden one. He sat propped up to the stump beside a fire that had long since gone out, hair and clothes wet with dew. His face was grey and icy cold to the touch. She grabbed his shoulder and shook him gently, noticing the stiff, discoloured part of his sleeve where a small stream of blood had dried.
"Sir? Excuse me, Sir, can you hear me?" She felt stupid and not really helpful saying this, but... what else could she do?

Very interesting and highly dramatic.. I love me a good romance! biggrin Could it be though, that dear Sagatsu is a bit accident-prone? wink (JK) Please continue the story soon, I would like to know how it goes on.
