I'm trying to compile a list of famous people who have AS. This list is for people who have been proven, though interviews or other evidence, to have been diagnosed. I'd like to keep adding to it. If you give me a name, please give me an Internet source to back yourself up. Rafer Alston (basketball player) Dan Aykroyd (comedian and actor) Phillipa "Pip" Brown (Ladyhawke) (pop musician) Bram Cohen (programmer and inventor of BitTorrent) Mark Hadon (author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in Nighttime) Craig Nicholls (frontman of a band: The Vines) Gary Numan (singer and songwriter) Dawn Prince-Hughes (PhD, primate anthropologist, ethologist, and author) Vernon L. Smith (Nobel Laureate in Economics) Steven Spielberg (film director) Satoshi Tajiri (creator of Pokemon) Raymond Thompson (scriptwriter and TV announcer) sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_persons_with_autism_spectrum_disorders.

He's a fictional character, but Sherlock Holmes fits the bill, doesn't he? Obsessed with one thing (crime), doesn't know or care about anything else, very blunt in his speech, hates everyone but Watson... what a hero. XD

If my 6th grade teacher diagnosed me with AS because I pace and don't like to talk to other kids because of their stupidity, then, by her standards, one other character from a book would be snacking on rice bread if he was real and met her. I'm talking about Artemis Fowl (from the book series of the same name). He doesn't like to talk to the other kids, obsessed with "the family trade" (and for a while finding his father, but that is understandible), and outsmarts everyone. What was ironic was that the same teacher who diagnosed me reads the Artemis Fowl series, but NEVER seemed to critizise Artemis about his behaviors, yet when she has a girl in her classroom who behaves pretty much the same way, plus pacing (although my morale is a bit more like Captain Holly Short, a different character from the series), she has to diagnose her with AS. How weird. She knew I read Artemis Fowl (I had just started reading them at the time), but never once said she thought Artemis had AS.

I've heard a lot of people say that Bill Gates might have AS, or some similar sort of Pervasive Development Disorder...

Quote: Thom Yorke, frontman of the band Radiohead i love that band! Me too. Is he actually diagnosed, or is this speculation? It would certainly explain why I can relate to their music more than any other group's.

Syd Barrett, really? That's pretty awesome. I don't care much for his vocals and such, though. ninja Here's a site with a list, though it seems they might be prone to lumping "generally quirky" with "AS": http://www.myautis.com/famousaspies.html

I heard Mozart had it... Or maybe it was Beethoven. It could have been both! lol...
On the topic of Artemis Fowl, he might have it be he could be similar to me in that noone notices it. Seriously- my friends had no idea (including my Uni ones) that I had Asperger's! Artemis, with all his intelligence and wit is my hero!
Now, if anyone has seen Black Books, would you think Bernard had an ASD or is he just a b*****d? He is another of my heros smile

Personally, I find it mildly worrying that so many of you identify with Artemis--the self-proclaimed CRIMINAL genius who appears to have little empathy for anyone.
I always liked Foaly. At least Foaly has a sense of humor.

I've never read Artemis Fowl, but a friend of mine (who has quite a few AS traits herself) loves the books.
