BASIC INFORMATION:

User ImageName: Veryuu Lian-Hyun
Meaning: His first and family name are a cocktail of Korean and Chinese, Veryuu's given name is loosely translated as 'Believe', appropriate since he thrives on an ideal to pursue, a personal goal to strive for and believe in. His family name means 'Wise Lotus', signifying the elegance and sagely knowledge that has been passed down from father to son for untold years, and much pride is imbued therein.
Gender: Male
D.o.B.: October 15th
Age: 17
Height: 5'11

NOBLE AFFILIATION:

The entirety of this particular Lunarian's family have their political sympathies aligned with the Nobles, but Veryuu, as he does everything in his life, has taken the decision to affiliate with the Nobles unto himself, and believes that he has not suffered any particularly drastic outside influences. Whilst his father was very passionate in speaking out against the supposedly uncouth Legion, Veryuu rather coldly ascertained that the ideals held by Nobles suited him, as both a warrior and a rational Lunarian. He views the Legionnaires as silly, ignorant creatures who blindly cling to ideals which should have been left by the wayside in years past and who still follow a doddering old fool in ignorance.

As for his own merit, Veryuu believes that in addition to offering up his still-growing skills with a blade to the cause, he can also influence the younger generation of Nobles, whom he feels have drifted unforgivably from their roots, behaving rudely and in a less than intelligent fashion. A true noble Noble, the icy youth has set forth what he believes to be a distinct paradigm of chivalry and proper bearing. Though... what effect that may truly have on those about him, remains to be seen.

FIGHTER:

The way of the Fighter (and in addition, the Samurai), is an appropriate fit for Veryuu. Raised by a warrior, he has been trained not to fear the art of weaponry, but to embrace it. Ingrained with a deep sense of honor, the youth has taken on swordplay as an essential part of his way of live. Whilst he is by no means an expert with a blade, he hopes to perfect his skills by way of the Academy, his warrior's soul one of the driving motivations behind his attendance. As he develops, Veryuu will become a quick, agile fighter, depending more on strategy and his ability to maneuver rather than sheer power.

Weapon: A Uchigatana given to him by his sire, dubbed Shi no Shimo or 'death frost'.

PURPOSE:

While seemingly Veryuu's purpose in both honing his skills as a fighter, as well as in coming to the Academy seem to be meritorious at first glance - Desirous of supporting the Noble cause and being a driving influence for improvement within the ranks, putting himself to the test so that flaws will be put aside, refined as a warrior, and as a person - The vital core of his motivations, the reality behind his high-minded ideals is in truth a selfish one. With his mother and youngest sibling having passed from the physical realm, the young man blames himself, as the only one amongst his family who both fell ill, and then had the audacity to survive. All but ignored by his father and forcibly estranged from his brother, Veryuu is grasping at shadows, wanting both penance and redemption. Always driven by one thing or another, it is a deep-seated self-loathing that motivates him now...to prove himself to both family, and to snuff out that irrational, insatiable chokehold of guilt. Never again to be weak, never again to allow tragedy to mock him to his face, such is his purpose.

PERSONALITY:

Noble: Veryuu is the very definition of the word, proud to a fault and instilled with a love of his background, the familial lore from which he came. With it comes a slight air of superiority, believing that those about him should act according to their upbringing, and if one has knowledge, they'd best employ it. Privileged from birth, with it comes a certain tendency to be selfish and more than a little possessive with things he has laid his claim upon. Though with this placing oneself above others, he strives to set an example, to be one of the true nobility and not some posing ruffian. Chivalrous in a way not dissimilar to a knight of fairy tale, he also believes that ladies should be honored, cherished and protected, something that his father set forth and that his mother found endearing. With his ideals concerning nobility, he also believes that one should conduct oneself in a manner possessed of grace and elegance, polite, unless given reason not to be. Even if his ways of going about it are abrupt at times, Veryuu will intensely uphold his own standard of honor, despite his deep-seated pride oft getting in the way of requesting much-needed assistance.

Intellectual: The teen is calculated, most often choosing to look before he leaps; fathoming the depth of a decision – a plotter and a schemer who prefers to wage the first battle in the realm of his mind. Not at all a person who has to be moving constantly, instead he could keep himself occupied for hours, a calm, cool outer shell hiding a very industrious mind within. He prefers pastimes that engage the mind above ones that are solely meant to test the body. A true scholar, he soaks up information like a sponge, and is a fan of fine literature - going so far as to collect what tomes he can, one of his seemingly frivolous indulgences. With that in mind, it is little wonder that Veryuu despises the ignorant, and finds most 'casual' conversation an utter waste of his time. Yes, my friends, this noble is a cynic, and his humor, when it oh so rarely shows, tends to be intelligent and intensely wry.

Cold:Frigid in personality, even Veryuu's wrath tends to be cool and calculated. Haughty, aloof from most of his peers, and coldly dispassionate, the youthful fighter keeps an icy wall betwixt himself and the world, allowing his frosty demeanor to keep everyone he does not trust at arm's length. He even has chilling walls within himself, using such metaphors, in his own mind, to blockade that which he considers weak where no one can view it, and even he himself can ignore any semblance of warmth. The icy fortress that he has erected within his innermost self is one that he is fond of retreating into, especially when discomfited or upset. One must be very privileged to get past this particular side of Veryuu, either someone akin to himself, or a person who has won his trust and loyalty.

Duty-Bound:Once Veryuu has pledged himself to something, be it a person, or a form of affiliation, he will be faithful to it until it blatantly, repeatedly proves itself unworthy of his devotion. And should they betray that trust, Veryuu's retribution would be swift and cruel. Loyal beyond measure, once someone has one his trust, they can count on Veryuu to be behind them in every endeavor. It is this sense of duty to family, faith and cause that makes him such a valuable asset, should one attain his support. Though far quieter, beyond his icy veneer lies all the makings of a classic zealot. This youth makes no decisions lightly, and is usually far too stubborn a creature to back down, defending that which he has sworn himself to to the bitter end, mess though it might be. Because of this, the young noble takes to himself only a very select group of peers and causes, so as not to spread himself thin.

Avaricious:One who is never satisfied. Veryuu is utterly insatiable when it comes to bettering himself. Whether it be attaining more knowledge, or perfecting a skill...there is always something more to be had. This also inspires a certain, quiet, competitive streak that only emerges during a duel or other scenario in which talents are compared. Tying in to his noble upbringing, the fact that Veryuu wanted for so little as a youngster, catered to by his doting mother and honed to possess a drive to succeed by his father, it has left Veryuu a veritable black hole, sucking in all those things that catch his particular fancy. Even when at rest, his mind is almost instinctively scheming out his next attainment, be it power, material, or intellectual.

QUIRKS:

Intense Perfectionism:Everything has a place, and everything belongs in that place. Veryuu likes everything in his life to be in order. A form of near-OCD, this also manifests itself when he's nervous, and he tends to pick idly at clothing, or fuss at his nails whenever he is particularly ill at ease. Almost nonchalantly extending his need for organization to those about him, if he sees something blatantly out of place he will oft fix it, without necessarily asking permission to do so. This also applies to his personal appearance and upkeep, though he'd ne'er admit it, the man likes to be pretty.

Socially Imbalanced:In the social field, Veryuu tends to gravitate towards his opposites, choosing those who are outwardly emotional and fiery, and following in their shadow... a bold sort of contrast to his own frigidity. Possibly because they remind him of his younger brother. Shy of any physical and emotional contact, he also craves it, but isn't willing to trust anyone deeply enough to acquire it, viewing it as weakness.

Control Complex:Unable to stand those things that are not under his direct influence, Veryuu loathes change that he himself does not initiate. If control is to be taken from him, it is because he made that choice...and naught angers him more than to be flippantly ordered about by someone to whom he has not, mentally or otherwise, given authority to. Tragedies, decisions, upheavals that effect his life that he is powerless to counteract cause him to fall back on self-blame, unwilling to accept that he himself could not have done something to alter the outcome.

Gourmet:The young male is also a chronic food snob, nothing bothers him more than a badly prepared meal, and though he won't complain whilst living off of even the most meager rations, inwardly he is cringing and dreaming up gourmet replacements for what is before him. Naturally, as one might assume, he is also a picky eater.

HOBBIES:

Reading - He'd do anything for a good book.

Music - Quietly fond of it, he used to listen to his mother sing while she worked, and has also been an observer to several more talented musicians of her acquaintance. As a child, his mother taught him to play the Paixiao, or chinese panpipes, and he now owns the set that she left to him on his fifteenth birthday.

Strategy Games - In particular, Veryuu is fond of Shōgi, but in truth, any game which engages the mind effectively will automatically make him an enthusiast.

Tai Chi - More an ardent admirer than a practitioner, he is desirous of becoming more fluent in the art, and most notably the sword forms. However, he already employs the basic exercises and meditation as a morning work-out.

Politics and Debate - In the past few years, Ver has inherited his father's love of the topic, and seizing on intelligent debate as a beautiful exercise for his wit and intellect, he can hold a conversation on current goings-on with Lunarians twice his age.

APPEARANCE:

Skin Tone : Pale. Something in the vicinity of #F8F1EB

Body Style : Lean and defined, as a swimmer or runner's might be. Honed this way due to the style of weaponry he has chosen.

Hair Color/Style : Silvery, so pale as to border on white. Straight, it is layered in places and has sweeping bangs, but for the most part, Veryuu pulls it up and out of his way, though always adorns it with intricately woven silver ornaments and a smattering of beads, maintaining a more 'fancy' look despite his practicality, a marriage of his ideals.

Eye Color : Bright sky blue/turquoise, something around #33B8B5

Scales/Nails : Cerulean on silver on even paler blues. Plays at matching his eyes and hair.

Reference Pic : Basic appearance

Clothing Description: Elegant, flowing, and yet not so frivolous that it would get in his way. As you can see from the reference above, I have a fairly solid idea for his top half's design (The ring that is integral design is comprised of blue coral), but waist-down is entirely up to the artist's discretion. He loves beads, subtle bangles and things about his waist, dainty accents. Partial to fine fabrics, he also adores embroidery, usually with silver thread about all the edges of his clothing in a mosaic of intricate patterns. His clothing should be in these, and other similar colors. You don't have to use all of them, just ideas.

Accessories: Always done in silver, and set and accented with blue stones or beads. Veryuu is quite partial to his silver hairpieces, meticulously crafted by an old friend of the family, they were his mother and sister's last birthday gift to him. Also, the pendant about his neck is also silver, and set with blue coral in this hue. His younger brother has one also, although the stone is a different color. There were three, made for the siblings when they were years smaller.

He's also ridiculously fond of earrings and other silly trimmings, not that he'd ever admit that he likes such useless bits of metal so very much.

Notes: Veryuu also adds striking dashes of blue in other places, such as over the lips and just a hint across the eyes. He does not see this as effeminate, but instead a way to accentuate his natural attributes, and heaven help you if you contest his right to do so.

Veryuu was the eldest of three children, born to a loving mother and father in a modest estate close to the mountains, a gift given to the happy couple upon their marriage. Growing up very close to the middle child, another brother but a year behind him, Ver seemed destined to rise to maturity a fairly average youth, quiet, but intensely loving towards those about him. Raised to be strong, agile, the morals of a chivalrous warrior instilled in him by his strong father from a very young age. However, when he was just above the age of thirteen, an illness swept through the surrounding area, severe enough to warrant sending away the children and the infirm.

Before this could be done, as both parents had agreed to usher the two brothers and their sister off to their grandparents in the heart of the capitol should such an instance occur, Veryuu, his mother, and his tiny sister all grew sick with the encroaching virus. His brother, Haote, however, was shipped off, whilst their father lingered to tend his ailing family.

Already weak from a series of lung problems, Veryuu's mother, and then his fragile sister passed away, Veryuu the only patient to rise from his sickbed. Never quite recovering fully emotionally from this, a distance occurred between Veryuu and his father, and the younger sibling remained at their mother's parents', they deciding that it was no longer a place for their grandchildren to be raised.

It was after this that Veryuu truly began to withdraw from the world, rather assured now that the only person that he could bear to trust fully was himself. Growing colder still, he took many icy steps beyond the quiet but loving child that he was now leaving behind as adolescence began to mature him. He and his father living almost separate lives behind the walls of their estate.

Finally, however, at his grandparents' prodding as well as his own motivation, feeling an outcast now from his remaining family - that he would dare to recover when his mother and sister perished - he sought to find himself a new life, and perchance his brother, at the Academy as a fighter. Moving from the place of his birth, he will reside at his grandparents' for the duration of his studies.

FAMILY:

Mother: Uahan, Deceased
- Betrothed by her parents to Gisado at a young age, she considered herself quite fortunate to be wed to a man she admired and loved.
-The quiet, and yet capable support for the family. A sweet, caring individual, she endeared herself to all of those who knew her well. A very alive, elegant woman who more than once bemoaned the fact that her fragile body did not match the energy that her spirit contained.
- Adored gardening and housework, two things that Veryuu will never see the appeal in.
- Died of complications from her illness

Father: Gisado, Alive
-Older than his wife by a score of years, he not only agreed to the betrothal, he suggested it.
-A friendly, quietly outgoing sort of person who possesses a tendency to be overpowering at times. Almost always wears a smile on his face. Though when Uahan passed, he took on a far more somber tone with the world at large, especially to his family and Veryuu in particular. A fact that Ver misconstrues to be blame leveled towards him for surviving when his mother and sister did not.
- Not overly political, he does however particularly relish debate and strategy, two things that he managed to pass on to his eldest.

Younger Brother: Haote, 16, Alive
-The middle child, Haote was the youngest for so long that he still often behaves like one.
- Energetic, intensely outgoing and almost obnoxiously friendly, Haote is the life of the party and the center of his social circle. Having an intensely likable nature, he employs a certain charisma that Veryuu lacks, and cannot stand to be alone.
-Very close to Veryuu despite their obvious differences. Standing on opposite ends of the spectrum, they both vexate one another and balance each other out.
-For years the only person Veryuu really trusted, the one person who kept him from being alone, and gave him the warmth that he did not himself maintain.

Younger Sister: Kandella, 10, Deceased
- A quiet, but always-smiling child. Cheerful without seeing the need for words.
- A touch spoiled by all of her family, most notably her brothers.
- A pretty, small girl, she had her mother's frailties, and so perished with her during the illness that overtook the family.

Grandfather (Mother's side): Sparyuu, Alive
- A cold, aloof individual, not unlike Veryuu in personality, sets high standards for himself and his family.
- Quietly protective of his grandsons, he does not show much by way of outward affection.
- Veryuu is intensely ill at ease with him, perhaps seeing too much of what he might become in this stern elder.

Grandmother (Mother's side): Pei-ding, Alive
- A very meek woman, only opinionated on topics related to those nearest and dearest.
- Constantly worrying, she tends to drive her family nearly mad ensuring that everything is taken care of.
- Intensely affectionate, always there to give a hug or a plate full of cookies to her children and grandchildren.

- Currently there are plots with the lovely Beejoux to betroth him to Shin-mu.
- I would possibly like him to 'talk' to either his mother or his sister in the future, via a Soul Conduit.

...anything else that comes to mind shall be jotted down herein.

Incoming! :V

Affiliation I enjoy how he chose to affiliate with the nobles for his own reasons, but it's the same side his family's on. Usually when you see someone being shown as an independent thinker, they're choosing the opposite side of their family/friends/mentor, and it's refreshing to see someone who thinks for himself but just happens to be on the same side as the rest of his family. One thing I wanted to know though, is in what way does Veryuu believe the younger nobles have drifted from their roots? It's just a little thing, but I think there are plenty of different things he could find to be wrong in their behaviour, and I'd like to know what specifically irritates him if possible. smile

Personality
Both Veryuu's parents seem to have been loving and warm, though elegant and well-bred, so from where does Veryuu's coldness stem? From the way his father changed after his mother's illness? From simply being of a higher class then most? Grief due to the death of part of his family? I'd just like a little more information on how he came to be like this. <3 Also, how does his coldness mesh with his duty bound quality? He seems reluctant to trust, but after one gains his trust, how many times would you say he would tolerate them letting him down at most? What would the consequences of betraying his loyalty be, and what if he found out enough negative information to shake his loyalty in something all at once? How would he react?

History/Family I was a little confused by the drastic change in Veryuu's father, who seemed to be both a friendly and caring man before the illness took his wife and daughter, towards Veryuu. Although I can see his father changing due to grief, the idea that he would take it out on Veryuu and continue to blame Veryuu for an extended period of time feels odd to me, especially since Veryuu is both his first son and one of the last children left in his family. Why did that happen?

Veryuu looks like a challenge to play, but you did really well with him in the ORP, and I like the balance of his traits! smile His design is great too, and it's nice to see a 'noble' Noble, it's quite the romantic concept. XD <3 It looks really good, and I hope to see him in action again soon! biggrin

Thanks, Kota! XD I've added a bit more info in places to make things clearer <3 Hopefully that should amend all of the gaps and answer the questions you brought up.
