Before we begin, I'd like to tell everyone the advantages and disadvantages between the different types of mitts ...
Focus Mitts: These are probably the best mitts for technical and speed training ... especially speed ... one can go at the speed of what a fight normally be ... but these are primarily used for punches and elbows ... though one can use focus mitts to do leg strikes ... the fact that they lack sufficient padding to take the power of a leg strike ... the one holding the mitts might actually recieve some damage.
Target Mitts: The beauty of target mitts is that they are a combination of focus mitts and Thai pads ... they can be used at speed and can take the power of leg strikes ... the only problem is the design ... they use the focus mitt design in the sense that the use the hand instead of the forearm ... thoughone can throw kicks ... they support ... but knees are a different story ...
Thai Pads: These are especially good for leg strikes ... their padding allows plenty of protection ... I've seen guys that are probably 160lbs take kicks from guys that walk around at heavyweight ... and their find ... so definitely allows small guys train big guys in striking ... however they sacrifice speed for padding ...

Combination Numbers:
[NOTE: this is the numbring system I learned]
1. Jab 2. Cross (Straight Right/Left) 3. Lead Hook 4. Rear Hook 5. Lead Uppercut 6. Rear Uppercut
As for leg strikes ... I just say what technique I want to see ... (ie. front kick, round house, left knee)
As for combinations ... well for me it's weird ... sometimes I use numbers ... other times I just say the technique ... it keep the person I train guess ... as the nature of the fight would be ...
Basic Combination: 1 1-2 1-2-3 1-2-3-2 1-1-2-2 5-2-1 1-2-Kick 6-2 (same hand)
[NOTE: Use the numbering system you're used to]

Wish I had training Mitts ... Even my punching bag has been destroyed ... No that's not a boast ... I was at a friends house, and it unexpectedly rained that very night, and my station is outside so it got soaked, I didn't think it'd be that bad, but when I tried to use it, the bottom completely caved out, and all the filling just poured all over the place! ... I guess the water weight, plus the filling tore the already worn, and weathered bottom, and it just gave out ... Poor b*****d ... I took the filling out, and put it into a bag in my shed ... I'm thinking of stuffing it into a jump suit to recreate my Halloween grappling dummy ... It's always good to recycle you know? ... What do you think? ...
