I'm planning on attending UCF starting in the spring, and am looking for work and housing in the area.
Work: I've already found that the restaurant business isn't for me, but I think I could do well in retail, particularly clothing. I'm hoping to start out at $8.50/hr. or more, and work about 30 hours per week.
Housing: I'm looking for something under $600/mo. where I'd have my own bathroom and wouldn't have to buy a gun to feel safe in that area.
If anyone hears anything about a job or housing in the area that would fulfill these expectations, or comes pretty close, please let me know. I just figure it'd be easiest to ask people familiar with the area if they know of anything than to try stumbling around blindly on craigslist. Thanks for any help you can give!

Good luck finding a job. My boyfriend has lived here for eight months now and still hasn't found one. As for location, that can be tough too. UCF is on the east side of town which isn't so bad, but I heard that the area right around UCF isn't always so great. Apparently there's a rapist in the area or something. But there are a lot of different apartments and places to live all right around UCF for the students. You could try searching apartments in Orlando for prices, and sometimes you can find things like how high the crime in the area is online. I hope you're able to find what you're looking for. It's a pain in the butt to find something decent priced in a decent area sometimes.

Vickicat Good luck finding a job. My boyfriend has lived here for eight months now and still hasn't found one. Vickicat I heard that the area right around UCF isn't always so great. Apparently there's a rapist in the area or something.

FOUND WORK!! I'm now going to be working at the Gap in the Florida Mall! Woot! I'll be looking for a second job, but it won't be immediately necessary. What is now immediately necessary is a place to live, preferably that will allow me to keep my cat. If you find out about anything that might work for me, please let me know about it. Thank you!
