What do you think of these books/movies?
Witchcraft= bad
Entertainment=okay
Personally, I was told that since it has witchcraft in it(it being Harry Potter), my mom told me I can't read it. I wasn't interested in it though. Just like how I wasn't interested in reading Percy Jackson.
What's your take on the two series?

Harry Potter was pretty terrible, imo. At least, from book four or five onwards. I only saw the movie for Percy Jackson, and it wasn't exactly the greatest thing either

Personally I do think that people who think these movies are evil are immensely [insertrudewordhere]. I mean, seriously. It's like arguing that the people who defeat a man that kills hundreds of people and causes terror is evil. : /

I stopped reading it after the fifth book. They just went downhill after that. I don't think I even finished the fifth book, to be honest. But to address your question, I'm not quite sure. I have heard Christians argue that because of certain themes in the book that contradict Christianity, we as Christians shouldn't read them. But I haven't looked too far into this particular discussion. I'm interested in seeing how this topic plays out, though.

These things do not represent real witchcraft practices or devil worship.....so i don't see them as bad.....i mean at one time parents claimed that Pokemon was demonic in its hit of popularity.....and that was a load of crap.

Big fan of Harry Potter. -shrug-
I don't think them as demonic and I think it's a bit silly to do so. Like it's been stated, they don't represent real witchcraft, plus the last book has themes of God and religion in it (positive ones). The writer believes in God and her stories are rated PG (PG-13 at the VERY hardest for the later books). They tell a story about an ordinary boy thrust into extraordinary circumstances, and how he uses loyalty, love, honor, courage, and friendship to defeat evil. How is that bad?
Percy or whatever is just a silly story for teenagers. It means no harm. Just because one sees something on Greek gods, does not make them evil, nor does it make the story evil.

I think fiction sci-fi stories are perfectly fine. When you read a book and fall in love with it and become a fan, sure, you think "Wow, that is one cool guy/girl! I love this story!"
But heck, we're not worshiping or believing in them, are we? Its just a source/way of entertainment, nothing more, and since we know God knows we don't consider these kinds of books any more than fiction and entertainment, then I don't think He would mind.

I'm a fan of both series.
I don't really get why people make such a big deal out of Harry Potter. It has nothing to do with actual witchcraft; it's basically all things either taken from mythology or invented by the author. It's just meant to be a fantasy series in the first place; it's not like it's supposed to be real or anything.

lenon01 Personally I do think that people who think these movies are evil are immensely [insertrudewordhere]. I mean, seriously. It's like arguing that the people who defeat a man that kills hundreds of people and causes terror is evil. : / My argument: 19The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions - Galatians 5:19-20 1 Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. If we agree that sin is in fact evil and by definition witchcraft is in fact an act of the sinful nature, then by definition witchcraft is sin and is evil If we are to abstain from all appearances of evil and witchcraft as defined by above is evil then we should avoid witchcraft If the Harry Potter Books contain witchcraft regardless of the fact that it is not in fact real witchcraft and witchcraft as defined as above is evil and we are to avoid even the appearance of evil then we should also abstain from Harry Potter because it contains the APPEARANCE of evil.

Gabriele Amorth, who is the head exorcist of the catholic church by now made a comment about Harry Potter, saying that the main danger about it is that in this fiction, they made a difference between black and white magic. But, witchcraft is witchcraft in real life, and there's no such things as black or white magic.
I can, from personal experience, tell that any witchcraft brings you s**t.

I say whoever seeks for evil where it can't be found must contain evil in their own hearts.
