Google Phantasian Productions. They have been slaving endlessly for the last five years on translating the PSX version of Tales of Phantasia, and are almost done. Their next major project is going to be Tales of Destiny 2, which they will try to give the same treatment. When will that be done? Hell if I know, but it's a start.

Otherwise, I'd just mod a PS2 and suck it up and read translations guides (or get a basic understanding of Japanese). Those games are old by today's standards of what is "in," so no way in hell are they going to be picked up here.

I have imported most of hem, and does not translate them because I learn much japanese because of them, reading too. For me it's a great way learning japanese. I would recommend playing them as they re. But to learn japanese by hearing to soon learn to read maybe it's better to have them translated first or see loads of non dubbed anime first which has subs in english. If you visit or import from Hong Kong and buy the "asian" versions, is that a good idea without having to mood anything because the "asian" versions have japanese, chinese and english subs naturally. So I'll recomend that.

On the Asian version thing, I'm pretty sure they only have Chinese subs. The fandom would be going nuts if they released one with English subs. The English is in the manual or something like that.

If you have access to a PS3, Graces F might be the easiest to start with. It has a very (maybe overly) helpful waypoint system that'll always point you in the general direction the main story is going, and popups for place names that you can match. And that's without a guide. The puzzles are also all visual except for one I guessed my way through. I haven't run into any really obscure ones yet. Rebirth, for instance, has a bunch of passwords and things that you will indefinitely need a guide for. Its weapon crafting/skill system I also never quite got the hang of...
