It was actually directed by Frank Darabont, aka, the guy that directs the GREATEST Stephen King adaptations. They are magical together.
Hellraiser Session 9 Event Horizon Jacob's Ladder The Thing
No particular order, those are just my favorites. I love Wes Craven's stuff too but the above are just straight up my favorites for various reasons.
Oh, and if you liked Drag Me To Hell, Cassidy, you might dig the Evil Dead movies if you haven't seen them before. They're Sam Raimi's earlier horror movies waaaaay before he did Spider-Man. The original's special effects are kinda goofy by today's standards but it's still fun to watch and the other two flicks got kind of weird and became bizarre-yet-awesome slap stick horror comedy/fantasy flicks.

@Cassidy: Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Sorority Row: Do you mean the remakes or the originals? Specify!
~
@Ken: A bold claim there. I'm not doubting Frank's awesomeness, but don't forget about De Palma's Carrie, Kubrick's The Shining, and Reiner's Stand By Me/Misery. Each are as excellent as Darabont's adaptions in their own respects.
~
Anyone who knows me knows that I am the biggest Evil Dead fan this side of ever. EVER. The Evil Dead trilogy is what inspired me to pursue a career in film in the first place, so...Yeah, check it out.
I'm not ready with my horror favorites yet...Soon.

Each are as excellent as Darabont's adaptions in their own respects. And yet, you omitted Mary Lambert's Pet Sematary. That one kicked a**. And it even got a pretty decent sequel.

I also omitted Silver Bullet, It, Cujo...Fact is, none of those adaptions are as good as the ones I mentioned...In my opinion, that is...So I guess it's not fact is...Whatever. xd

I'm not going to say that those movies arn't bad or that they arn't, in fact, 'effin' fantastic. But I have to give it to Darabont just for Shawshank alone.
Kubrick's The Shining is definitely more Kubrick's than anything else though. Not that that's a bad thing. That movie is a straight up phenomenon.

@Ken: Kubrick's The Shining > King's The Shining. Truth indeed.
~
Drama wise, yes, Darabont's Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile adaptions are superior to Reiner's Stand By Me. But, comparing horror wise, Reiner's Misery easily beats Darabont's Mist.

I can't remember where, but I actually heard that Mist wasn't that great of a movie at all. Not even 'for a Stephen King' type of deal, just that it wasn't that great. I could be thinking of something else though.

Probably was The Mist. I remember hearing similar things about it.
But yeah, you're right, we're getting off topic with Shawshank of all things.
I still need to watch the Midnight Meat Train. I've had that lying around since Hollywood Video was shutting down and I still haven't watched it past the opening. It's hard for me to sit down and watch a movie nowadays, especially since I don't have alot of friends around that like to sit around the house to watch a movie with me or (bleh) don't like horror flicks.
Y'know, 30 Days of Night was a pretty good return to form for vampires. I can sort of understand the changes they made to the vampires compared to the comic but it's a damn shame that didn't really "stick" with anyone as far as vampires in pop-culture go.

I liked 30 Days of Night, but didn't see the ending, because we caught the late show and my friend was being a douche... Or something of the sort, I don't remember.
But yeah, you just gotta sit yourself down and watch some. I usually have like, a week long of movie marathons that I watch, and then nothing for a long while. But once you watch that first awesome movie that you haven't seen, that's when you really get into the mood to keep watching move movies. And by you, I mean me.
