who do you think was smarter l or light. i mean i guess they both were but in the end l lost the battle between them. But light also lost his life at the end of the anime so yeah. what do yall think?

L is smarter, He is a creative genius. light was genius at first until the very end but he was insane!

L and Light were both extremely bright, they were just juxtaposed as to how they used their wit.

I think L is smarter. I mean, they were both geniuses, but Light got really careless at the end and began making moves that revealed himself to Near and Mello. To me, its like Light was pushed to be so smart because L was such a genius. L is also more skilled at reading people...and reading between the lines.

i think both of them r smart it's just that each have a disadvantage to one other, like how light has the death note and L has the fact that light doesn't know his face. i think it's a battle of who's smarter

Honestly, they both were not smart enough. I mean yeah, Light got L killed, but it wasn't Light that got him killed. It was in fact Rem. But Light did get Rem to kill Watari and L, though. AHHHHHHH!!!! CONFUSING!!!! Lolz, not really. But at the end it was Ryuk that killed Light, so technically, the Ryuk was the smartest. But not including the shinigami, L won technically because Near continued L's case. And he was the only human in the whole thing that didn't die. YAY FOR NATE RIVER!!! Ooooops. Sorry to anyone that didn't know that. (:

Exactly! Besides, the author himself said that L is the most intelligent character in the series because "the plot requires it." Besides, no matter how smart you are, there are somethings that cannot be done. When you try to defeat someone like Kira with no idea of their abilities, you are at a severe disadvantage. Near and Mello were only able to defeat Kira by 'working together' and using knowledge that L had previously gained.
