Religious Ideas of Grigory Rasputin

Early in his religious career Rasputin was attracted to the Khlysty sect, a breakaway group of the Russian Orthodox Church. While the sect shared the Orthodox Christian belief that the body is a sacred gift from God not to be debased, it also maintained that sin was an essential aspect of the human condition. Central to their teachings was belief that man can attain grace through sin and confession. These ideas naturally appealed to Rasputin. He became a monk and tailored the sect's doctrines to justify his increasingly debauched life style.

Interesting, non? I just found it a very interesting way some people look at Religious teachings as opposed to what I would find here. : D
Open discussion, please. I want to know what ya'll think.

Romans 6

1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with,[a] that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

I would say Rasputin was following false teachings.

Me too. I was actually thinking of the same passage. Those people are the saddest in my mind--I've met a few, good, good friends, but so lost. I can only live as example--they won't listen.

Khlysty - any relation to klyster? As in, a type of hot poultice applied to the skin in order to draw out impurity/sickness? Were they into corporeal mortification?
