One particular scholar wrote a thesis once, claiming that Hope conquers all. He used historical fact as his proof. The following is an excerpt from his work, according to the royal library of Thousand Streams.

---

“One who pays due attention to the words of the past and the happenings of the present quickly realizes the inaccuracy of calling our world “perfect”. People fight and die every day, and some would argue that our military mindset is slowly degrading our progress of culture. Nobles of yesteryear used the name “Perfect World” to garner support from their peoples, in times of war and peace alike.

“The reason this ploy succeeded (and indeed, still does) is made clear in the writings of many a great poet. We protect what we hold most dear, as that in itself has an intrinsic value to us as people, one that we almost never pay conscious attention to. We fight for a better tomorrow no matter the cost, and because of this we have made countless advances (and mistakes) in technology, art, and war alike. All of this history, spiraling out of control—it is because we simply hoped so strongly for something.

“My hypothesis is that “hope” holds power greater than any other we have ever discovered, and that nothing will ever take that away from us. Nothing other than total obliteration could hope to break us. Take due caution for that very reason, I forf nothing else, as you begin to light the fuse of conflict once more. Our ability to do harm grows exponentially along with all else we possess”.

---

As the Wraith threat finally begins to fade, rallying cries of triumph spread throughout the civilized world. With the fade of threat, however, comes also the fading of stigma against interracial conflict. Rogue factions of extremists begin to appear.

Nobles, elders, and generals alike begin to struggle for authority, playing dangerous games with their countries and their people in their attempts.

Though most fail to realize it, the situation is quickly becoming extremely volatile. Archosaur’s seemingly meager response to such a grand threat is the establishment of one mere, budding faction: Dwn2Bsnss.

This is the story of two legendary heroes, their commander, and their beloved allies, all in the quest for another, better tomorrow in Perfect World. Among other things.

Cutscene

A young man of age 23 walks silently through a crowd of various civilians and soldiers. He passes under a grand, crimson archway guarded by two heavily armored mercenaries. One of them bids him a hello, whilst wearing a very smug grin. The young man merely nods in response, not even turning his way. The two guards chuckle as he passes, and his heavy goldenrod brows furrow slightly.

He inches his way through an extremely condensed crowd, centered around various weapon and armor forges and important military officials, finally reaching a large, rough looking man with a gigantic sword sheathed at his side. "Reporting, General Summer, sir."

"Baskin. I trust that the linens have been delivered?"

"Yes. Tailor Lo thanks Archosaur for its generous contributions."

"Our thanks go out to her as well. So. Tell me."

"..."

"How is your training going? Records show you making a lot of trips outside the city lately, and it has recently been brought to my attention. You realize that even with the wraith threat minimized, it's still dangerous to leave military protection?"

"...Sir. With all due respect...Certain risks are necessary for the sake of achieving an appropriate measure of growth, are they not?"

"...Heh. If that's the way you feel, you're going to love this next assignment." He hands him a rolled up piece of parchment. "Ready to join a real military faction, kid?"

"...Really?"

"Yes. You will report to General Sera immediately. This is your final visit to me until further notice. Step boldly, young Joseff."

"Thank you, sir! Uh--I--I shall do my best to accomplish my new tasks with outstanding success. For the glory of this Great City!"

"For the glory of Archosaur." They both salute and Baskin turns away, striding quickly with a small smile on his face. He salutes the guards as he passes them again, making sure the roll of parchment is in plain view. They scratch their heads in puzzlement.

---

To himself, General Summer mutters: "Praise be, he's truly gone..." He grunts, and turns to address the next soldier.

---

Baskin finds a secluded area inside the city and rolls open his parchment, reading it with obvious interest. "General Sera...Why haven't I heard of her before?"

Shrugging, he rolls the parchment back up and follows its winding directions along the most out-of-the-way back alleys of the city, which even in themselves seem to radiate with the energy of the second-greatest civilized hub in the Perfect World.

Emerging from one particularly dark alley, he comes upon an area of the city he has never seen before. It is a small courtyard, with three small staircases at one end leading up to a concrete platform, where a woman adorned in expensive-looking azure silk stands. Her flowing pink hair, the color of strawberry milk, flutters slightly in the wind. At her side sits a sword in its holster, the handle carved into the intricate shape of a lion, with mesh grips for where her fingers would supposedly take a hold if and when the need arose.

She spots him instantly, and grins widely, offering the type of wave that could mean nothing other than a beckoning to step forward from the darkness...

[[There will be occasional cutscenes with fully typed storyline paragraphs. More commonly, there will be dialogue scenes that we will edit continuously as all the participants in the scene respond. This will hopefully cut down on rambling and keep the story/game right on moving. Oh, and yes, the "courtyard" from that last cutscene is the battlefield from the tutorial.]]

CHAPTER 1
Initiation

Baskin: *Walks silently to Sera, up the north staircase*

Sera: Baskin~! So glad you made it. This is Dwn2Bsnss, your new mercenary faction. Gotta love the base, right? I built it myself. Regardless--questions. Here's your chance, babe.

Baskin: Er...Alright. *He salutes* Um--

Sera: Oh, cut that out. There's only one real formality I am going to hold you to: refer to me as Commander Sera. Because it's such a cool damn thing to be called.

Baskin: *Stares for a moment, and then nods* Very well then. Commander Sera--

Sera: Tch. So formal. Your noble birth has seriously wronged you.

Baskin: ...Sorry. May I ask my question, though?

Sera: Of course. I already told you to go ahead.

Baskin: ...What is the purpose of this faction?

Sera: Dwn2Bsnss is designed as Archosaur's premier, top-secret peace-keeping faction. We'll be putting a stop to any activities or issues that may threaten harmony among the races.

Baskin: I see. It sounds like a heavy responsibility.

Sera: Yes. But we can handle it. Besides, someone's gotta do it! Anything else?

Baskin: Why was I selected?

Sera: Because you're a hard worker who I believe has a lot to offer to our effort. Besides, no one else wanted you anyway.

Baskin: ...*Frowns*

Sera: Well, you asked! Look, lemme cheer you up. *Snatches the paper from Baskin's hands and tears it to shreds, then takes another parchment from a back pocket, handing it to him* Your first mission! You'll be investigating a suspicious group of Winged Elves, which may be tied to the recent disappearance of some Untamed. It's in a forest and stuff.

Baskin: You're allowing me to investigate on my own?

Sera: Of course not! Look, your partner's coming right now. *Waves to Hasani as he emerges from the alleyway*

Hasani: *emerges from the darkness as Baskin, mane swaying somewhat despite the buildings cutting off the wind* General Sera? *looks at Baskin quickly, then snaps his eyes back to Sera; he doesn't display any courteous gestures, but hands over the parchment upon confirmation*

Sera: Yes, officially. *Takes the parchment and shreds it* But you'll be calling me Commander Sera. Any questions?

Hasani: Uhh... *stares at the shredded papers for a moment, then glances back up* Are you one of those humans that hates paper work? I might like you.

Sera: Somewhat. It's fun to destroy when I'm done with it, for sure. Oh-- but you two will be sharing that scroll that Baskin holds. It's your first mission. Now, for the rushed introductions! Baskin, brother of one of Archosaur's Generals. Hasani, son of Lost City's Elder. Hasani, Baskin. Baskin, Hasani.

Baskin: *Takes on an expression of surprise in finding out he's being partnered with with royalty, but proceeds to basic formalities all the same by bowing slightly with his hands clasped in front* It is a pleasure, Hasani. If I may call you that.

Hasani: Hasani is the only thing people call me. *looks a bit surprised himself, but nonetheless recovers. He looks at the parchment in his partner's hands and grunts at the thought of reading it* I'll call you Baskin, hu- erm, Baskin. Nice to meet you. *The Lion Man stalls for a moment before he holds out his hand- it wasn't often an untamed tried to comply with humanity's social norms, even in royalty*

Baskin: *Baskin had chosen a bow to avoid the awkwardness of forcing a handshake gesture on a member of the Untamed race, but readily met his arm extension with one of his own*

Sera: That wasn't awkward at all! Okay, I'm teleporting you now.

Baskin: Wh-What?! You can tele--

Sera: Stand perfectly still, 'kay byeeeeeee!

*A pink flash of light suddenly surrounds the two of them like a cocoon, swirling like a tornado. About five seconds later it stops, and then find themselves seeming rather deep inside a forest*
PostPosted: Sat Oct 09, 2010 12:46 pm

*the two arrive in a forest shortly thereafter. There didn't seem to be anything disrupting the peace today; their job would be all the more difficult because of this*

Hasani: *retracts his hand and steps back a few paces, utterly dazed. The large man falls onto his hindquarters and rubs his forehead, ruffling the feather like centerpiece of his mane* Crazy human females... the stories are true!

Baskin: *rather dazed as well, leans against a nearby tree for support* I have never met a woman like her before, I must say...Damn it...Need to check the surroundings... *clutches his forehead and shakes his head vigorously*

Hasani: *as his eyes spin, he looks up to the tops of the trees, thankful they filtered out the sun. When his vision settles, an unfamiliar setting with thriving greens and browns surrounded him* I don't know where we are. This is not untamed land. *he almost sounds like he's growling*

Baskin: This forest seems familiar somehow...*checks the mission parchment* Ah, Unicorn Forest. Alright. *He glances up* I came here once before to train...which wasn't the best idea at the peak of the wraith threat, but regardless-- We are near the human capital.

Hasani: Hm, more humans. *gets up from where he had fallen, brushing the back of his neck before stretching his muscles* Are we here to smash humans?

Baskin: The scroll says we are here to investigate the activities of a faction of suspected rogues. They are Winged Elves, and they may be related to the sudden disappearance of some Untamed. We are permitted to use violence if it becomes a necessity.

Hasani: *pauses for a moment* My brothers and sisters are missing? In danger? *The man growls as he immediately draws his hammer* Where are those elves... *He sniffs the air* I'll make them regret what they've done!

Baskin: ...Perhaps I'm at fault, for not making myself as clear as possible. Uh-- it's not completely guaranteed that the rogue faction is related to your missing brethren in any way. That is exactly what we are here to investigate. Our goal is to attain information, not to pick unnecessary fights. Does...that make things clear?

Hasani: *turns about, seemingly not amused as he grumbles* ...hrm. If I see so much as one sign of them doing wrong, I will break them to bits. If they have my people with them, I will smash them to bits.

Baskin: *Sighs and begins walking, assuming the teleport pointed them in the correct direction* Do what you must...Just know that I do not intend to fail this mission. 'Tis the first real chance Archosaur has given me.

Hasani: You won't fail. Neither will I. *whips his eyes around as he follows Baskin's lead, staying wary of their surroundings* We're partners, yes? We have strength together.

Baskin: *Nods, looks around warily as well* Mm.

*Some time passes in silence besides the crunching of leaves and branches under the comrades' feet as they trek forward. Suddenly, a young cat woman in ragged, torn garments, with bleeding claws, makes an entrance*

Cat Girl: HIIII-YAAAAAAAA! *Jumps from a tree branch, swinging a large stick at Hasani, shattering it upon contact with his muscles* ......Uh. You're not the people trying to kill me, I'm guessing.

Hasani: *glances down at the girl, utterly confused* Are you lost, little one?

Cat Girl: No, East is...totally that way. *Points* Wait. We're just wasting time! *Suddenly seems very angry* We have to go help them. My brother's still back there!

Baskin: Please, explain the situation to us. You said someone's trying to kill you?

Cat Girl: There's no time! We have to stop them! *She runs ahead of them*

Baskin: *Thinking* Well...Sera did point us in the right direction.

Hasani: Bah! Little ones in danger. Come, Baskin! *twitches his ears, then takes off running, not quite as fast as the girl, but fast enough to warrant an immediate reaction from Baskin*

Baskin: Right. *Responds quickly, and in a surprising turn of events, actually keeps up pretty well with them*

*They come to a clearing, and the girl yelps as she jumps back, barely avoiding an arrow*

Baskin: ...Stay back! We've been ambushed.

Cat Girl: WHAAAAAT?! That was MY plan! And--and I've got to help. My brother--

Baskin: Do you have any fighting skills? Are you a Venomancer?

Cat Girl: No, I--...I fight in cat form.

Baskin: I...see. You should definitely stay back, then. You're in no condition to fight with the way your claws are bleeding.

Cat Girl: *Growls* You guys better make this quick. *Jumps behind a bush*

Baskin moves 1 space right, to [2, 2], and approaches Assailant 5, who unfortunately notices Baskin's attempt at stealth by staying off the path.

"Not so fast, guy."

"Humans among the elves? Why is this so?"

"Anything's possible for the right price."

"I see. You're that type of mercenary." He strikes at the foe.

Baskin's attack is noting by Hasani, as is the obvious fear of the archer before the Lion Man. Said archer is spared for now as the space 3,3 is taken up. Given the blademaster just recovered from the attack the other human had dealt out, now was the ripest time to go in for a kill.

"Oh god! There's one of those big beasts here!"

Hit Chance = ((6) + 85) - 9 = 82% (Roll: 13 )
Damage: (9 + 5) - 5 = 9
Critical Chance: (0 + 13 + 1) - ((6 x 2) + 9) = (14) - (21) = -7 (None)

"You are wise to fear!"

The blademaster falls to the ground. Hasani stands proudly over his corpse, then glances to those remaining on the battlefield. Five left, hm? No purrrrrrroblem.

Hasani gains 30 EXP!

Assailant 5 has 3 turns to be revived.

---

Assailant 1, being fearful of Hasani and all, decides to ignore him and hope he goes away. So in an attempt to not provoke him, he moves one space left (to [2, 4]) and attacks Baskin—the lion’s ally—instead! (From two spaces away.)

Hit Chance = (6 + 95) – 15 = 86% (Roll: 82)
Damage = (5 + 2) – 9 = minimum damage of 1
Critical Chance = (0 + 10 + 2) - ((8 x 2) + 15) = -21 (none)

He shoots his bow, attempting to straight-up pierce Baskin’s temple. Baskin glimpses the attack and nearly dodges what honestly was a weak shot anyway. It grazes his cheek and causes a minor cut.

Baskin’s HP: ((13 ---> 12))
Baskin's EXP: ((5 ---> 7))

---

Assailant 2 is a lazy betch who stays right where she is.

She calls it strategy, but even she knows that’s just an excuse for not having all the AI rushing the main characters all at once during the first fight.

---

Assailant 3 moves up two spaces, to [6, 3], to attack Hasani head on unlike his other allies. Well, head on from three spaces away.

Hit Chance = (3 + 100) - 13 = 90 (Roll: 81)
Damage = (4 + 3) - 8 = minimum damage of 1
Critical Chance = (0 + 3 + 0) - ((5 x 2) + 13) = Okay, really. It ain't happening at all.

*Dink*

Hasani's HP: ((15--->14))
Hasani's Exp: ((35--->37))

---

Poor low level Assailant 4 cleric has nothing but a healing skill and no one to heal AWWWWW--

---

Assailant 6 waits, only...she actually is assessing the situation. Something inside of her realizes a potential opening.

*Quietly* "Ahaha, well ain't that precious~"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 24, 2010 6:52 pm

Baskin moves four spaces to the right, to [6, 2], for the purpose of attacking Assailant 3. (Assailant 1 is spared once more, go figure.)

Hit Chance: ((10) + 95) - 3 = 102% (Roll: 69) One hit.
Damage: (11 + 3) - 2 = 12
Critical Chance: (0 + 15 + 2) - ((4 x 2) + 3) = 6% (Roll: 37) No Crit.
Chance to Poison: 5% (Roll: 73) No poison.

Baskin rushes towards his target and the startled archer merely puts up his bow in an illogical attempt to shield. It does not stop the blade that pierces his chest, dropping him almost instantly.

Baskin gains 30 - (1 x 4) = 26 Exp for the kill!
Baskin's Exp: (7 ---> 33)

He pulls the sword out quickly as the corpse drops to his knees and then falls forward. "...I must say. This is actually going well." He smiles proudly, and then looks around the battlefield to survey the situation further.

Suddenly he notes a wizard nearby, and though he tries to avoid it, their eyes meet. The wizard's, filled with an odd air of amusement. Baskin's, filled with dread.

Hasani: [3, 3]
Baskin: [6, 2]
Assailant 1: [2, 4]
Assailant 2: [11, 4]
Assailant 3: [6, 3] (Dead)
Assailant 4: [7, 4]
Assailant 5: [3, 2] (Dead)
Assailant 6: [9, 1]

Hasani picks up the scent of a boney elf with mystical energy and a fruity perfume surrounding his body. His eyes redirect towards Assailant 4, narrowing just a bit. A gasp of concern leaves the cleric's lips when Hasani jolts to the space before him [7, 3]. The shadow of the Chestnut Hammer overshadows- "Skinny man, prepare to perish!"

Hit Chance = ((6) + 85) - 10 = 81% (Roll: 5 )
Damage: (9 + 5) - 3 = 11
Critical Chance: (0 + 13 + 1) - ((5 x 2) + 10) = (14) - (20) = -6 (AHAHAHAHA ********, NONE)

Assailant 5 - HP: 11 --> 0

The cleric attempts to heal himself right at the last minute, but it is for not as the inevitable dink is drowned out by a THUNK. Hasani stands proud, once again.

EXP Gained: 30 + (0 x 4) = 30!
(( 35 --> 65 ))

Assailant 3 has 3 turns to be revived.

---

Assailant 4 has 3 turns to be revived.

---

Assailant 5 has 2 turns to be revived.

---

Assailant 1 puts two and six together.

Baskin and Hasani have effectively leveled half their team to the ground and barely taken any damage themselves.

They have both left him alone for the time being and this might be his only chance to escape.

He can go warn the others in doing so, and so he won't be bitched at for mutiny. Or executed.

Assailant 1 moves three right and one down to a hidden escape space, [6, 5]. He leaves the field and runs down the path, to his base.

Successfully escaped.

---

Assailant 2 moves two left, to [9, 4], and attacks Hasani from a three space range.

((Archers typically have an attack range of 2-3. Crossbows have 1-3.))

Hit Chance: (7 + 100) - 13 = 94% (Roll: 46) Hit.
Damage: (5 + 3) - 8 = minimum damage of 1
Critical Chance: (0 + 6 + 0) - ((5 x 2) + 13) = -17 (no crit chance.)

DINK. The arrow shatters against his left shoulder or something. Leaves a bruise.

Hasani's HP: ((14--->13))
EXP: ((65--->67))

---

Assailant 6 casts Pyrogram on Baskin.

MP: ((26--->25))

((Pyrogram is a Lvl 1 Wizard skill, fire based. It has no damage multiplier of its own, and thus is basically the magical equivalent of a basic attack with a weapon. As for attack range, magical skills usually have a range of 1-4. In this case, the attack is launched from 4 spaces away.))

Her wand is directed in Baskin's direction and a small rectangle of flame bursts forth from it.

Hit Chance: (6 + 90) - 15 = 81 (Roll: 68 ) Hit.
Damage (with Baskin's Mana Cripple multiplier): (1.5 x (8 + 4)) - 5 = 13 damage
Critical Chance: (0 + 6 + 0) - ((11 (with FoD) x 2) + 15) = -31% (no critical chance)

The shot is fired suddenly and Baskin does not react in time. The tiny square does something peculiar: it EXPLODES upon contact with Baskin's skin, knocking him instantly to the ground with a pained yell, a few pieces of his clothing singed really badly. He has been mortally wounded, with burn marks all over his skin. Only a revive item can recover his condition, what with the lack of a cleric. This must be done within three turns or he will die permanently (and the game will be over)!

((If the battle ends before the three turn count is up, Baskin will be saved. Thus, if all healers are incapacitated, a team shouldn't give up all hope. Completing victory conditions as quickly as possible can save allies just the same.))

Baskin's HP: ((12--->0))

Baskin has succumbed!
