Well sadly, my friends who live near me quit playing Magic (I blame the sliver decks >.>) so I was considering playing Magic Online.

My only 2 concerns with Magic Online:
1.) I might have to buy my cards all over again
2.) What happens if the game had to permantently shut down? Do you get your cards printed?

Well do you guys recommend me to play Magic Online?

Well, personally speaking, I hate Magic Online. You need to buy all the cards all over again, and if the game permanently shuts down, you will never get your cards printed, I guarantee it. The fact that you need to buy all your cards all over again, and that customer service isn't very great, are reasons enough for me not to play. I had an account at one point in time, but I moved and lost my computer, preventing me from playing the game for a few years. When I get a new computer, I decided to play. I answered most of the security questions correctly, but they still refused to give me the password unless I used the stupid confirmation number that I lost three or four years previous. So, all in all, no, it probably isn't worth it.

Just as a feared... because I didnt want to spend hundreds on cards that would never be printed it the game was shut down for good sad That would be almost as bad as how my mom threw away all my rare and valuable Yugioh Cards that I wanted to sell.

Thanks for the warning, I am just going to stick with the paper cards

I was told a million times of all the people in my way

From what I'm told, it's a good tool to learn to play magic better, but that's it. I don't know much about it. Personally I use a program called Magic Work Station. It's like a ghetto equivalent that only like, 50 people play. No need to spend any money unless you wanna contribute to the author of the program. The card database gets updated every set, and I use it as deck testing tool.

If you don't have time to draft regularly, Magic online is a good way to learn drafting skills faster than FNM

however, I do beleive if you get a playset of every card in a set you get each card printed in that set.

I like having real cards more, just because its a physical thing, if magic stops and perminately shuts down, at least Ill still have the cards to play with other people.

I do too, but I dont like the idea of buying cards on Magic Online just to have it shut down and not have the physical cards in person >.<

Okay this is what my friend showed me because he's using Magic Online.

The game itself is $10 but it comes with a digital planeswalker deck, some land, and a few M11 packs.

to draft, packs are $4 a piece. The cards you buy are stored in the MTGO network. The price to do draft is I think 1 ticket, which is $2. so after accounting for taxes and everything, you're gonna pay $16 to do a draft at a card shop. it's $14 to do it online. Plus, once you complete a set online you can redeem it for a complete physical set.

I'm having problems getting OCTGN working(im horrible w/computers emo ) but all my computer literate MTG junkie friends use OCTGN. I think its like the workstation that was mentioned before but more people?

Only problem is, you need to have ALL the card sets installed too- or the program will crash if you play someone w/cards from different sets.

I would just pay the extra 2$ for the actual cards. MTG online i think is strictly for not being able to play FNM or if you do not have a magic community in your area

Personlly i would just use a simulator that has all the cards up-to-date to play Magic with people online
I wouldn't recommend playing magic online as Mfable said, you would have to buy all the cards... I wouldn't even spend money on Gaia..

if you wish to play Magic online. trying looking for for simulators. I play cockatrice, which is nice. Its pretty small right now, just 100+ people, maybe a little more, but you don't have to buy all the cards, you can play online and once you understand the game style of it, its pretty easy to get the hang of.

Good Luck! heart
