Like the vampire thread, figured it'd be cool to make a zombie thread. Some books worth recommending are...

The Walking Dead - Robert Kirkman's "zombie story that doesn't end" and tale of survival horror, follow small-town sheriff, Rick, as he leads a traumatized group of survivors to a place they can call home while fighting off the zombie hordes.

Zombies vs. Robots - In a world where most of the human population has been wiped out, robots quest to revive their human masters while defending them against armies of the undead! There's a couple of these but the original two series collected here stand out for the artwork by Ashely Wood. The zombie virus will be crossing over into some other books published by IDW in a bit as well.

Marvel Zombies - an alternate reality of Marvel superheroes has been almost completely wiped by a zombie virus, leaving only super powered monsters competing with each other for any flesh they can still find. It kind of crosses over into other comics but the best self-contained bits would be, of course, Marvel Zombies, Dead Days, revealing the prequel stories that lead to Marvel Zombies, and Marvel Zombies vs The Army of Darkness featuring Ash of Evil Dead fame! There are other series too but they're either not as good or tie-in too much into other comic events.

Zombie - A re-imagining of an old Marvel comics horror series, Zombie details the tale of Simon, a bank-teller, who gets taken hostage by bank robbers, only to end up fighting for their lives after driving into a taped off biohazard accident where a mysterious gas has turned all who's come into contact with it into zombies. Also has a sequel that I would share the title of if it didn't spoil the ending of the first book...

Tales of the Zombie - The original series about a coffee plantation owner turned into a zombie by a voodoo priestess. Pretty old-school but alot of the art on these old horror comics were quite good.

Also, here's that weird zombie crossover that IDW will be doing with Star Trek, Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Ghostbusters when the virus from Zombies vs Robots crosses-over into alternate realities.

Yeah, I really should check out The Walking Dead. I never hear the end of it.

Marvel Zombies, on the other hand, I have read. And I believe it's by the same guy who writes Walking Dead. And I thought the series was pretty mediocre. The varaint cover artwork are cooler than the actual storylines. Also have Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness. Best thing about it was the Howard the Duck cameo. xD I remember Army of Darkness vs Darkman being pretty cool, too.

Yeah, Marvel Zombies gets turrible when part 2 came out. It was awful. Then they got a new writer for 3 and it stars Machine Man! 4 gets kind of weird, kind of ties into Dark Reign a bit and stars a (lol) special commando group of Marvel monsters like Morbius, Man-Thing, Werewolf By Night, aaannnd someone else who's name I don't recall as they hunt down the original Marvel Zombie and the head of zombie Deadpool (don't ask) while fighting off a big zombie outbreak. Not as good as 3. There's also Marvel Zombies Returns which wraps up the original storyline though I haven't read it and I heard it wasn't too hot and there's a new series starring Machine Man and Howard the Duck right now.

The quality is usually pretty uneven with that series and is really more Marvel fan service than anything else which is why I didn't go into them too much.

Wow, I've been out of the loop for a while. xD How could they even do a sequel, really? I mean, there's only four left and they all pretty much turn into Galactus at the end and devour planets. But yeah, more Deadpool would have been nice (big fan; have his entire first run and all the one shots and annuals). You only see him in one panel in the original. And I totally agree with the fan service thing. And that's why Marvel Zombies has its moments here and there, but for the most part... yeah, meh.

Marvel Zombies Vs. Army of Darkness was a big letdown. Too much Ash one liners and not enough action.

The whole story was, y'know, the surviving ones come back to Earth to find survivors from the ending of the original series having set up their own tiny attempt at civilization.

I still highly recommend Marvel Zombies 3. They done did good work there. MZ4 is just for folks that really really love those old Marvel monsters.

Caught up with The Walking Dead 78. Things look like they're about to get really bad again, especially with the possibility of Rick being back in power. Anyone else caught up?

Really need to reread Highschool of the Dead. I can't remember where I left off.

I know it's only sorta related, but Robert Kirkman was featured as a character in an issue of Hack/Slash, where he was killed by a demonic fetus. xd
