Old Green Day was Punk Rock...
New Green Day (AI and 21st CB) was labeled as Alternative... ^^,

Actually calling them punk is wrong. The label applied to early Green Day was punk rock as their wasn't really anything else to put to it. But punk is not a genre, it was a musical movement, therefore since Green Day emerged after the punk movement (and the punk movement was primarily British anyway) Green Day were not, nor were they ever, punk. This is the label they pretty much carry to this day. But really, they're alternative rock.
Also, there is no such thing as "Old Green Day" and "New Green Day". It's the same band. I hate when people do that! They're the same genre still, same style, they've simply gotten better and can make much more complex musical patterns now.
