Ceru liked the morning - it was in fact his favorite time of day, the world was just awakening from a long night and it's sleepy muted presence was soothing to the blue Nequus. Dusk was fine too - but dawn..dawn was his absolute favorite.

And so he rarely slept in all that late, preferring to awaken and wander down to the waterside to watch the sunrise, listen to the birds chip and otherwise commune with nature in a way that few Nequus bothered to do. So sad really that so many of those he met spent their entire lives completely oblivious to the wonder's around them...but such thoughts would simply ruin his mood and shaking his head he banished them from his mind, returning his gaze to the sky where pale streaks of pink and yellow announced the quickly approaching daylight. A new day..a new adventure.

Nia'Yoeg

A mare lay half motionless on the earth with the only movement coming from the chest as she breathed in and exhaled outwards. Anyone at first glance would’ve figured that she had passed some time ago, but occasionally her legs would twitch from feeling so lame. It had looked as though the mare had gone through a battle he previous night. Her dark mane was not well kept with a couple twigs and leaves scattered here and there within it. The end of her tail was covered with mud and too had a couple articles in it as well. Her hooves were filthy and there were a couple raw wounds on her chest. The mare weakly lifted her head, snorting as she shifted her weight and pushed herself up from the ground. Her hooves ached and she felt as though she was going to collapse, but thankfully she didn’t.

The mare breathed heavily through her nostrils as she took a step forwards. Not too bad. She lifted her legs as she walked out from the thicket and towards the sunlight that she yearned to feel. She felt cold and wet. He eyes furrowed as she walked out from the tight branches and was embraced by a wave of heat. Never before did the sunlight feel so good.

She winced as she stretched out her talons. She looked to her wings and noticed a couple feathers had gone missing through the night. She wept for a brief moment and gently brushed the end of her snout against the wing’s limbs. They were very much tender and needed some well grooming like the rest of her body. The mare pulled her distraught wings back to the side of her body and lowered herself to the earth again. And that’s when it dawned on her that she couldn’t remember what happened last night…what happened to her…

Ceru was fairly lost in his thoughts - but even then it was hard to miss the faint weeping sound that kept intruding upon them. Pricking his ears he turned towards the sound intending to investigate - for surely if someone was weeping something must be wrong.

Well...

As long as it was some little filly foal weeping about her siblings bullying her anyway - but the voice sounded grown. Cautiously he walked forward to follow the sound, eyes scanning the trees for any sign of possible danger, though nothing seemed apparently out of place...except the blue Jala he found laying on the ground. He expected she was normally quite pretty - though clearly a little rough at the moment. "Miss?" He hazarded "Are you alright? Do you need help?"

Nia’Yoeg ears swiveled at the sound of something moving towards her. She prayed it wasn’t an enemy, as she didn’t think she had the strength to flee away if that was the case. She breathed deeply as she attempted to raise her head. But everything hurt and felt heavy. She just wanted to lie on the ground and dream all her pain away.

“Miss,” a voice said. She raised her head and pointed the end of the snout where she heard the deep voice. She opened an eye and looked at a stallion that gazed down at her. “Are you alright? Do you need help?” he asked her. She opened her other eye and furrowed as she looked at him.

“Meyp,” she said pointing down to her legs with her muzzle. She looked to the stallion again with pleading eyes that reflected her pain and agony that she was in. “Meyp kinamtil,” she touched her leg again with the end of her snout. The mare breathed deeply. She whimpered softly as she attemped to stand, but had collasped onto the earth with a loud ‘thud’.

Ceru blinked at the mare for a few moments after hearing her speak, what was that language? It was so..well pretty sounding to be honest though even in his mind that sounded just a touch too girly for him to express outright.

At least she was pretty good as getting her answer across - even if he couldn't outright understand her words, the look in her eyes was enough to tell even a dunce of a Nequus that she wasn't alright as all. It was clear she was in pain and by the way she motioned to her legs he gathered that was were her injuries lay, though he could see some cuts on her chest that looked worrisome too.

He wanted to ask who had done this to her..but at the moment he didn't think running off on some mission of vengeance was going to help her any. She needed a healer of some sort...Ceru wasn't a healer but he did know a small bit about herbs. "Willowbark!" He proclaimed "You need some willowbark to fight the pain and bring down any swelling" Lifting his head he looked about, Willows grew near the water...so surely there had to be one around here somewhere....

Ah yes..there, by the shore, spinning on his haunches the stallion trotted towards the tree, loosing a little bit of bark wouldn't hurt it overmuch and the mare clearly needed it. Ceru didn't like taking thing from nature unless they were needed but in this case he didn't hesitate and tore off a few chunks before returning to the mare and dropping it in front of her, nudging it closer with his nose.

Nia’Yoeg wasn’t sure what to do with the willow bark that was placed in front of her. She lowered her head until the end of her snout barely brushed up against the bark. She sniffed it a couple times and barely let the tip of her tongue slid against it for a quick taste. She lips pursed together as it was quite bitter. There was no way she wanted to put that in her mouth. She made a face as she looked away from the bark and to the young stallion. Was he joking? Did she really have to chew on that…stuff? Nia’Yoeg groaned as she glanced down at the willow bark once more. There was no choice. It was either eat the bark to get better or feel even lousier. The mare groaned out, nodding her head as she scooped up the bark into her mouth and chewed it. The taste was awful at first, but the more she chewed the more scrumptious the bark became. She reached down and brought another piece of bark into her mouth to chew on, spitting out the bland ones once all the natural juices and medicines were in her mouth and swallowed.

She spat out the bark once finished chewing. She then cleared her throat and tossed back her mane. “Irayo,” she nodded her head as she smiled politely to the stallion. Nia’Yoeg winced as she struggled to stand up, pushing herself up from the ground. She snorted with nostrils flaring as he legs moved out from underneath her body. At first her balance was weak and wobbly, but slowly and surely she stood up. She breathed in deeply as she slowly walked to a nearby tree to use for support.

She stood there for a moment to catch her breath before looking at the stallion. “W'hat nem?” she asked him, her English clearly not strong or fluent. A smile grew across her lips as she looked at him, so very grateful that he had given her the willow bark.

Ceru didn't want to make the mare chew on the bark - I mean he hardly knew her and with the language barrier and all it would likely involve all sorts of silly miming that no Nequus should ever have to do. Ever.

But she really did need it, it would help to fight infection ad infection he knew was the reason many Nequus died after being hurt - it wasn't so much the initial wounds but the poison that spread to them later, best to just starve that off at the very beginning and the pain killing properties of the plant was a nice benefit. Fretting about how to make the mare understand he blew out a relieved sigh when she finally relented on her own. Problem solved!

Irayo..Ceru gathered by the slight bob of her head that it was a thank you of sorts and nodded to her in return "Your welcome" he told her before backing away a few steps to give her room as she tried to stand, standing was a good sign though it as quite apparent she was quite tired still and once more his mind pondered just what had happened to this poor mare. "Cerulean..Ceru for short, what's your name?"

The mare breathed deeply and felt as though her chest would cave him from all the pain that overwhelmed her body. She exhaled through her nostrils and tilted her head to the side a bit. Her ears pulled back and her tail dropped in between her hind legs as she dipped her head down. For a brief moment she had tried to recall of what happened last night, but no memories filled her mind. She kept drawing a blank after a blank. She tossed her head back and snorted in frustration. Her eyes glanced to the stallion as he spoke his name. She smiled and bowed her head. She knew that it was rude to show her anger towards him. After all he was the one who had helped her.

Nia’Yoeg’s smile blossomed as she took a step towards him. And soon another step, walking until she was only a couple feet away from him. She had to keep moving her legs no matter how much pain they were in before they went lame and she couldn’t walk anymore.

“C-Ceru?” she tilted her head to the side, eyes furrowing questionably a bit. She hoped that she had said his name right or as close as possible. Her accent was heavy in her voice as she spoke. “Ceru!” She smiled pleasantly as she looked at him. She chanted his name once more while taking another step towards him.

She stopped, eyes looking at the stallion as she dipped her head down quickly as if pointing to herself. “Nia’Yoeg,” she said her name. “Nia,” she paused as she looked at him, “Yoeg”.

She smiled brightly at the stallion before changing her route. Instead of walking towards him, she avoided his body and walked to the woodlands. It was taking little itty baby steps as she walked. Her legs trembled with each step, but she had managed to keep her balance.

Ceru wasn't sure if the mare had understood him - or if she was even paying attention to what he'd said, in fact she looked a bit displeased though he was sure it had something to do with whatever had happened to her - he hadn't done anything to anger her after all. It was to be expected really, whatever had wounded her had likely been traumatic, what if she'd had family? or friends who were also wounded or even killed...

Terrible to think of and he hoped it wasn't so, but something had happened. At least he had found her right? Better him then some other less helpful Nequus, or worse then that whomever had hurt her in the first place.

uch terrible thoughts were pushed away when she smiled at him - even wounded and in pain she had a very pretty smile, and he couldn't help but brighten slightly himself when she repeated his name. "Right, Ceru" He encouraged with a slight bob of his head, ear flicking slightly as she stated what he assumed was her name..what an odd name. "Nia Yeowg" He attempted to put the strange syllables together, it didn't sound nearly as pretty when he said it and he would have continued attempting to get it right but he was walking off and he turned about to follow her "Hey..wait..where are you going?"

Nia nickered as she glanced over her shoulder at the stallion. She smiled brightly at him as he began to follow her throughout the dense forest. The young mare turned her head around and snorted quietly as she expanded her talons. They flinched a couple times and pain winced throughout the limbs but she had managed to let them air out. Nia allowed them to stretch for a few more moments before tucking them back in at her side. She didn’t dare try to glide or fly yet especially when she was still slightly weak from the previous events.

A heavy sigh escaped from her vocals. She couldn’t remember what had happened and tried to desperately. Nia looked to Ceru again and laughed softly. Her eyes seem to brighten as she looked at him. She paused and looked around. Her nostrils flaring as she dipped her head down and began to trot to a familiar scent. The young mare stood at the base of a thick tree. The draping branches of the willow tree tickled her back as she stepped closer.

She opened her mouth and used her teeth to carve off some bark. She then happily trotted back over to Ceru and stood in front of him.

Nia nodded her head and stepped forwards with her eyes motioning down to the bark. She gently touched the end of her snout against his.

She smiled in hopes that he would accept her ‘odd’ gift.

Well she din't answer him outright - Ceru hadn't entirely expected that she would, he wasn't even sure that she had understood his question, but he couldn't let her just wander off by herself either - she was still wounded and would likely be weak for some time yet. She would be easy prey for predators - at least to his mind - and he would not be very much of a stallion if he let her get attacked again because he had left her alone.

So while he wasn't sure where she was going exactly he trailed along after her. " You should be resting some more" He cautioned as she stretched out her wings - rather hoping that she wouldn't attempt to fly so soon, he needn't have worried however because she soon tucked them back to her sides and continued onwards..to a willow tree. Perhaps she wanted some more bark for her pain? He would have gotten her some more if that were the case and snorted slightly in annoyance with himself for not bringing her more in the first place..but no sh was bringing it to him and his ears flicked in uncertainty "Thank you" He finally stated though he wasn't sure if she wanted him to eat it or just keep it.

The young mare nickered as she brushed the end of her snout against the stallion’s with a gentle touch. She tossed back her mane, stepping forwards, and dipping her head down as she dropped the bark onto the ground and nudges it towards him. She raised her head and smiled at Ceru for a brief moment. Her smile seemed to blossom the more she looked at him. Stepping forwards, but careful not to step on the bark, she lifted her head and laid it upon his shoulders as if giving him a hug. Her eyes closed for a moment as she rested her head against his body. His warmth feeling quite good against her wounded body. A faint sigh escaped from her vocals as she opened her optics and lifted her head from him.

Nia brought her head down from his shoulders and looked into his eyes with a friendly expression. She gently kicked the bark with her hooves closer to him before turning around and facing the woodlands. She could feel her legs aching and her wings wanting not to be tucked in any longer. She groaned, gently opened her talons and ‘aired’ them out for only a couple seconds before tucking them back in. She breathed deeply, lowering her head down a bit as she began to walk away from the stallion.

“T-thank you,” she said softly with a smile. She bowed her head to him and continued walking. She was unsure of where to go, but she knew that she had to find shelter soon because without it she would be the perfect meal for whatever lurked within the shadows.
