i whant to know what has happend to christmas i know its a bit late but i hear a man preaching in the street at christmas about what christmas is realy about (in his opinion.)
someone being realy rather rude went up to him swore and loudly (by this i mean he shouted) that jesus wasnt real and he didnt aprecciate being force fed s**t i think that was mean crying
so we must be sad for him.
when did this happen?
how did it grow so fast?
Why has the big brother nations of the world become so for lack of a real word anti-religious-ness????

I suppose the larger nations of the world support the concept of "freedom" to the utmost extent. I suppose our generation really doesn't know what it feels like to not have freedom so every little thing will set us off going "Don't you opress ME, man!" We really don't know how good we have it. I don't know why people can't just not listen if they don't want to hear something. There's no use in starting something when all they need to do is plug their ears. What good is trying to invoke their freedom of religion..when it'sopressing somebody else's freedom of speech?

I, myself, have nothing against religion. I had to find it on my own and I've come to be comfortable in the Catholic ways. Although there isn't a close catholic church for me to go to... I do my best and have faith in my own way. Any place can be a church as long as it's peaceful.

And I think the word you were looking for was sacraligious. ^^;

I say we should just get along with everybody's religious opinions and just leave it at that. Let's stop jumping to conclusions about things from the past and focus on what a religion is really about. And I should know, I'm a witch and people automatically think that I worship the devil when I don't! It's unnerving. Anyways, I'm getting off topic. Some people don't believe in Jesus, and there's nothing wrong with that, (my opinion don't get mad at me!). Some people believe that there is and are just enjoying the wonderful chrissmassy feeling that it has to it. Others just find it a wonderful opportunity to stir up trouble and be controversial about it. I mean come on remember the big "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays" thing? I think people are taking it a little too much out of hand.

Gosh.. I remember the "Happy Holidays" thing. My school blatantly said over the announcements "And have a nice CHRISTMAS vacation". I laughed... and I don't think people understood why. >_> Christmas is more of the ambiance here. I mean.. nobody gets angry at the Jews for Haunikha (sp) or at the Muslims for Rammadan.

There have been court cases stating that open prosyletizing on the streets violates the religious freedom of others. However, I know of one specific case in which two people stopped people on the sidewalk, asked if they could talk for a minute, didn't bother anyone who said no, and prosyletized to the others in which their actions were declared legal. Why? Because they didn't get in anyone's face about it.

I don't think the guy should have gotten in anyone's face about it, but I'm an atheist (which happened based on my own research), and I've never thought of Christmas as a very religious holiday. It's become totally commercialized. It's no longer about Jesus, it's about a fat man in a red suit giving stuff away. To each their own, and I don't push my beliefs on anyone, but no matter how you look at it, Christmas is not the holiday it once was (a ploy to convert pagans :XP: Sorry, had to say it).

Haha, but you're right though. It IS a commercialized Holiday now not only to sell more goods ((mostly that)) but I know I say "Happy Holidays" to please more people. Christianism might be the most common religion out there, but it certainly isn't the entire one. And now a days people have realised that in many cases its wrong to attempt to convert someone. There are a large variety of different Holidays around the christmas season, such as Hannukah and Kwanza. Saying "Happy Holidays" is just putting them together so that you dont have to repeat all three or offend someone by saying one 3nodding

I have Muslim friends. O.o ... I say happy Ramadan on their cards which they think is somewhat silly.. since Muslims don't usually wish eachother "happy ramadan". They appriciate being included in some of our Christmas traditions, though. (they make wicked gingerbread cookies) So I agree, it's really not about religion anymore.. it's more like a custom.

It stopped being about religion a long time ago, it has now become money, money, and more money. And that's all that people tend to think about unless something bad happens to them. Remember the case in Texas where the mother drowned her kids in a bath tub and said that God told her to do as her defense? Only when something like that, or when somebody just wants to start something up and get people mad does it become about religion. I have friends who are atheist (sp?), wiccan, jewish, catholic, buddhist, tao, and yes a satanist (but he's getting help no offense and he's not on here) so I just stick to the Happy Holidays thing. Just so nobody gets mad at me and decides to hunt me down.

For me, I can't say that christmas is a commercial (even though to the general public it is, largely I might add.) holiday, but it isn't religious either.

I am not christian (even though my family is), I actually am a fantasist. (Fantasism is the belief that our world is surrounded and influenced by another, more magical world) I simply consider it a time for generosity and to show appreciation for one another in whatever way possible.

Christmas has become money-centered, much like Valentine's day,
but what can you do about it? Boycott? What's the point? Christmas should be a time
to enjoy yourself. I like sitting in front of the fire with a book with my family,
just as much as I like getting gifts. The memories are the only thing you keep
as you grow old. Your new computer, that new pair of pants, you'll either
lose interest or forget about it. Memories are what you really gain during Christmastime;
and if you're missing out on that, well, you're missing out on it all.

*claps with a tear* THAT'S WHAT IT'S ABOUT! Holidays became too controversal and politically correct when everybody got blinded by greed and money. And now all we hear is people complaining about it and trying to prove that they're right over the news that they've become annoying.
