A Brief Biography
Simone Valencia Deveres was born into a French family. Her mother divorced her father six years after she was born. She left France to live with her father and grandmother in a simple suburban house in Baltimore, Maryland. They were a fun, loving family. There she also met Cain, her neighbour and best friend. Simone still speaks some French around her family and sometimes you can hear her accent come out. She doesn't really keep in much contact with her mother. Her father was a doctor and occasionally he would leave for other states and countries for special projects, and he would often take her with him. In school she was a fairly average student though her interests lied mostly in the science and arts. She was more of a practical student. Being raised by her dad, Simone always had a knack for sports and is very competitive. For the most part Simone is very friendly and outgoing but can easily get irritated. Simone was liked by many people but then her life was turned upside down when she was marked. Those she knew abandoned her, calling her a monster. Simone had aspirations to be a biologist, but that dream was shattered along with many others. Her father, her grandmother and Cain are her only supporters. She definitely wasn't happy when she found out she was marked, but she is learning to accept it.

The Day of the Mark Simone woke up thinking it was a regular day, not really expecting how wrong she could be. She stretched then went into her bathroom to shower and brush her teeth. At first it didn't exactly hit her as to what that artistically curved shape was on her forehead until she examined it more carefully. An elaborate crescent tattooed on her forehead. It could only mean one thing. She was marked. She tried thinking back to when it could have possibly happened. It would definitely explain why people were glaring at her and mouthing insults on her walk home, but then again she hadn't had any strange encounters with anyone suspicious. Simone turned the tap on at the sink, trying to rub the inky shape off her head, unsurprisingly unsuccessful. She leaned on the wall, evaluating the reality of what that tattoo meant. That one crescent would very much change her life, be it for the good or the bad. I am nothing special so why was I marked? It seemed Biology had finally caught up to Simone. She remembered last year when Johanna Mason was marked and how everyone treated her like a freak. Even her own family had turned on her. There was no doubt that she was going to be treated like that too. "Simone! Breakfast is ready." She heard her grandmother call out to her as if on cue. She tried to move her legs towards the door, but stopped. No she couldn't let them see her like this. Maybe makeup would work. She dabbed the power on her forehead, blending it in with the rest of her skin. She wasn't the makeup type so it looked strange to her at first, having so much foundation on her face. Maybe she could pretend that she was never marked and go on with her life, but then she would die. She knew that once marked you had to go to the House of Night school. Simone sighed, washing the makeup off her face. She would have to face it and tell the truth. Simone made her way to the kitchen where her grandma, her dad and Cain were sitting around the round table waiting for her. Cain always came over for breakfast. She wondered what he would think of her now. She faked a smile, then took a seat on her chair. It didn't take long for her dad to notice what was wrong as she could see his shocked, widened eyes. The atmosphere at the table was uncomfortable and way too quiet for her. She was expecting someone to call her a monster or anything, but they just stared at her. Cain got up and pulled her into a hug. "This doesn't change who you are, Simone." He said. "It will be fine." Her dad gave her a reassuring smile. She wanted to burst out into tears but nothing came. This was what a family was truly like. Simone had no idea how news spreaded so fast. The whole neighbourhood knew that she was marked somehow or the other and it wasn't her grandma, her dad or Cain because they stayed with her the whole day. Simone packed her bags and they all sat in the car. The drive to the House of Night was a good two hours and it was basically isolated. Vampires weren't welcomed by the mundane society so it was probably best that way. "Make sure you call every day and don't start trouble with anyone. Take care of yourself, okay?" Her grandma said softly. She said her goodbyes to Cain and her dad then entered the House of Night, where new adventures were bound to find her.
