Questionable Shapeshifter

{ -o- } Dark, misty wisps swirled around her gray visage as the morning sun rose and beckoned the night into its own slumber. Her eyes a soft blue but what appeared to be red tears streaking down cheeks, the Key wandered through the forest, alone, with only her dark golden sphere clutched to her chest for company.
Kratos Lucca, as was her name, was quiet. Not even as she fluttered her wings was a sound heard. Not till she spoke... "The night seemed to end too quickly..."

To Mason X, the lock weighed a hundred pounds. Mason, heart broken, lock hanging low to match his mood, wandered the forest without a path to go down, both physically and mentally, not noticing the surroundings. Mason soon found he was lost, which suited him, and it did not scare him.
Mason settled down in the crook of a large tree, enjoying the moonlight that ran in moats through the trees. Soon the week was forgotten and the sweet escape of dreams overcame him.
What felt like minutes later, a small moat of early sunlight floated over his eyes and woke him. The surrounding area was dark, despite the fact that the sun was up and bright. The memories came flooding back, giving him a small headache.
The darkness was disrupted by some very small rays of sunlight, that did not give enough light for him to see his surroundings, but there was an intense ball of golden light coming from the area below him.
He clambered down, all the while keeping an eye on the light.
He walked over to where the light was coming from, and to his immense surprise, he found a key surrounded by a drift of grey, menacing clouds.
"Hello, Im Mason. Not to be pushy, but what are you doing in the middle of the woods?"

"!!"
Kratos Lucca whipped around to face the voice's owner and as she did so, her coveted orb seemed to brightened in its glow but her own face showed no change in her solemn expression. She lowered her gaze from the male, as well as her head...her eyes came up to him again, just a slight bit.
"...I...I like to wander at times... It's, well, peaceful to me..."
Kratos glanced about, wondering if there were others here too. "Was I disturbing you?"

Mason was taken aback by the voice of the grey key. It was soft yet it had an edge to it, as if the owner had seen hell itself. Very suddenly Mason was afraid for his life, but not because of the decrepit key.
"No, um, it's okay. Im Mason X, but you can call me Mason. And you are...?"
Mason felt a cold wind and shivered. How far away from home was he? What time was it? Questions filled his head and caused him to get another headache. The blue eyes of the key seemed to burn his soul.
"Um, I was walking, and I got lost... Do you know the way to town?"

Mason X seemed disturbed. In fact, he seemed very much so--Nervous, dizzy, awkward.
Kratos lowered her gaze again, and turned a bit away from him, quite certain it was her own presence which was causing such distress of the Lock. "...My name is Kratos Lucca," she replied politely, "and town is not too far away." She tightened her hold on her sphere, a little nervous herself. Her ears drooped and shoulders tense as she nodded in town's direction.
"It's less than half an hour in that way..."

Mason nodded, eyeing the golden sphere that Kratos held. His eyes burned from the light, but he did not move his gaze, afraid that if he looked away it would be lost.
"What is that?" He said suddenly, surprising himself.
It was beautiful, and Mason was envious. A perfect sphere that looked to be carved out of the sun itself. His gaze drifted upwards an he noticed the red tears falling from Kratos' eyes. Then he looked around the fur of the key, which was light grey, with darker spots where the fur appeared to be shorter.
"The, uh, golden ball?"

"?"
She appeared to grimace, tensing up a bit more--he wanted to know something about her? About her special little...object? Who would want to know anything...about her?
"It's my...My cherished 'Bell'. My Klingel. It's always in my company..." Kratos spoke very softly, seeming to cling even tighter to 'Klingel'. "I would not know what I would do...if I ever lost Klingel. I would not be whole. Ever."
At this, Klingel seem to shine a little brighter and the moon-like form within its glass shell seemed to shift, just a bit. For a moment, it almost appeared like Kratos smiled.
No...Couldn't have been. Just a trick of the eye. That was all...
"...W-weren't you needing to go home?" Kratos inquired rather abruptly.

Mason was surprised by the small almost-smile on this sullen, small creature. "Oh..." Mason relaxed somewhat, for a simple reason that he could not understand "Well, yes..." Mason started to wander, realizing he had not been paying attention to her words, but to her, and was still lost. "Well, no one is waiting for me." he said, both to himself and Kratos Lucca. Mason jumped nimbly into a tree, settling in a spot half hidden by leaves and branches. Mason X pulled a leaf off the tree and began tearing it into small bits, which he then tore into even smaller bits, and so on. Mason was bored, and put his focus on Kratos, while acting as if he was focused on making the pieces as small as possible.

...Perhaps it was just her, but Mason seemed a bit... ...Odd.
She watched as he settled himself into a tree, and began to turn a leaf into bits and even smaller pieces...A few of those fluttered down to the ground and hesitantly, Kratos began to push and cover them into the soft, lightly moist dirt. And as though he has asked 'why', the female said out loud:
"So they can become nutrients for the tree to grow..."
Then, she backed away--Kratos suddenly felt uncomfortable around him. It perplexed her, but she almost felt like she was being...studied, somehow. "...I'm going now..."
She bounded off slowly, but stopped. She peeked over her shoulder at him, and decided she was quite rude in her action. "Ahh--Mason, if you are hungry...I know where there are a few berry bushes..."

Damien slowly stepped into the deeper regions of the forest with a wary look on his face. He didn't want to be there... He couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that creped into his heart. Undoubtedly, he was not the bravest lock to be seen but the shadowed forest felt cold even though the light shined through the tree tops.
The dirt behind him cracked gently as the soil was split apart from his dragging tail. His paws rubbed against his scales trying to moisten them with morning due as he shivered in worry. What was he thinking, traveling so far out from his pond? Damien took hesitant steps forward as he traveled through the forest towards the direction of the nearby town.
A orange glow broke through the morning mist and Damien squinted as he looked forward. What was that? He approached cautiously until he was only a few meters away and hid behind a thick tree as he observed a grey key and a bright lock. Who..?

Mason suddenly flicked his attention to Kratos.
"Oh, really? I've never had fresh picked berries..."
He noticed she was farther away now, She had gotten up and started on her way. Mason climbed down and followed, leaves still in hand. Kratos looked uneasy, as if she was not used to socializing.
Mason looked around. It was very pretty here. The air smelled faintly of flowers, probably from the soft pink flowers growing on the bushes. Off in the distance a bird chirped, but he could not see any evidence of the birds, nor did he recognize the call. He wondered how long it had been.
What time is it?
Suddenly he felt as if someone was.... watching them. No... Could it be? Mason whipped around, staring at the area the disturbance seemed to be coming from. A flicker of vibrant blue and orange appeared from behind the leaves about two feet away.
Mason hurried up to the side of Kratos Lucca and grabbed her arm, pulling her back.
"Kratos..." He whispered, so low it was barely audible, "I dont think we're alone. Someone is following us..."
He flicked his eyes in the direction of the disturbance.
"Kratos?"

It certainly shocked her when Mason claimed that they were being watched, frightened of who--or what--it might have been. However, this fear was trampled under a new one--Mason was...was touching her! She didn't know why she was afraid. She really shouldn't have been. However, this simple notion of a touch was so unfamiliar and foreign to her...Kratos couldn't help but lash out in fear, even though it was a protective, little touch.
Panicking visibly, Kratos flinched before pulling away: "D-don't...NO!" she cried out in confusion, falling backwards...She lost her hold of Klingel and watched in agony as it rolled towards the bushes where Damien hid...She quickly stood and bounded towards her precious 'bell', before coming face to face with Damien...Her ears drooped, as though weighed by bricks, she she then froze up.

((Tekk, 1 meter = 3 feet x'D))
"Ahh!" Damien cried out as he stepped back in panic as the Lock suddenly sprung from his resting spot in the tree to rush towards the Key. A small cloud of dust rushed into the air as Damien tripped over his tail and fell pathetically on his back. When he fell he shut his eyes as he braced himself for impact; he grit his teeth as he felt his small hands make contact with the dirt as he tried to cushion his fall.
Now on the floor after the dust settled Damien felt his hands and tail sting as his scales were pushed and pulled by his fall. Silent tears swelled up in his eyes and he carefully and slowly got up from the ground... only to be pushed down again as the large orange ball bumped into him. "Ouch..." He muttered out sadly. Today was not his day. Damien's shoulders sagged as he picked up the ball and as he looked up, came face to face with the Key.
"Ahhh!" He squeaked as he jumped in fear then quickly flinched and waited for the key to attack or snatch the ball away. After nothing happened after one or two seconds Damien cracked open one of his eyes and looked towards the frozen key. Bloody tears. Damien tensed up in fear as he took in the Key's features and tried to spit out words that would somehow save him.
"Uhh... I... Umm... is this yours?" he offered meekly, gently offering the ball back to the Key.

"Wha~!"
Mason tumbled forward. Several things went through his head at once, fear of the fall, anger at Kratos for jumping like that, and wonder at why she jumped back. It must have been him...
Mason landed. Hard, on his head. Ouch. Mason's world went black.
Mason X opened his eyes. He turned to Kratos and the unfamiliar lock.
"How long was I out?" He asked, tones of seriousness and urgency tainting the natural calmness of his voice. "Don't worry, um, I pass out alot... It's just alot easier to knock me out...."

She snatched Klingel hastily from the sea-like lock, and clung to it almost desperately. Then, she seemed to calm, just a bit..."T-t-thank you..." she stuttered quietly, appearing rather embarrassed and nervous. Hearing Mason speak, Kratos bounded over to his side as she remembered what she had done.
"I-i-itwasonlyforafewsecondsa-a-a-andIdidn'tmeantohurtyouIjustpanickedbecausew-w-wellI'mnotsurebutI'mreallyreallyREALLYsorry....!" she exclaimed all at once and when she finally finished, Kratos was out of breath! She shrunk back, trying to make herself smaller...She couldn't look up to them, "...I-it's all my fault...I'm just...J-just...useless"
