Autumn had cast a thick blanket over the kingdom of Hubris, bringing with it variation in the hue upon the treetops which covered every bare expanse of land not encompassed by cities and towns, and a noticeable bite to the breeze as the land made its slow segue into winter. As with every year, the encroaching equinox would spawn numerous festivals in every populated area; celebrations which were unrivaled by any other country, at least in the minds of every Hub who found themselves in attendance to these rambunctious affairs; who watched the night sky provide the perfect backdrop for loud music, dancing and chatter, and the staunch fragrances wafting from numerous varieties of foods being set upon open flame. And, of course, it was the capitol city’s festivities which were the most sought after by all manner of citizens, from the filthiest of peasants to the Hubrian royal family themselves.

…And it was with that in mind that Sara Bellerose, figure obscured slightly by a thick, wool-woven shawl, darted stealthily between the pillars that marked the entrance hallway to their castle, her skulking strides bringing her ever-closer to the world (and, by proxy, the celebrations) which edged the creases of her home estate.

It was late, and as such the corridors had been fairly sparse of visitors, only occasionally flanked by a passing guard or two. And, once out of the royal chambers, avoiding their sights became increasingly easier…as, quite simply, none of them would have possibly foreseen the young princess making it quite so far. The stealth she’d been forced to implement in the initial moments of her journey had been monumental, for the king had long ago taken notice of his youngest daughter’s somewhat spontaneous nature; her affinity for toeing the lines of any rule he chose to set for her…and thus, in instances such as this, when the chances of her trying to flee the premises unescorted were abundantly high, he increased the bulk of guards lining every hallway abutting her chambers, the rooms dotting the areas nearby, and even the gardens beneath her window ledge.

Her elder siblings, especially her brothers, had always been given free reign about the area; trusted to be on their own, to do what they placed. But Sara was not a son; she was a daughter, and moreover, she was Rodric’s youngest daughter. That fact, coupled with her strong personality and equally intimidating ability, called for numerous regulations to be placed upon her dainty shoulders which weren’t generally extended towards her elder, and more trusted siblings.

…Luckily, she was far slyer than her father gave her credit for, which was how she found herself at the entrance corridor on that chilly autumn night. Sparing a hesitant glance around, the young woman pulled the hood of her cloak a bit further over her face, attempting to mask her eyes without truly hindering her sight so that she’d not be so easily recognized by any who might happen by. Her hair, made protest to the movement, a few sections falling like drapery out of the garment and spilling down her front, gracing the top of her newly budded chest, which was pulled tight by a corset; cerulean in shade and made of a thick, silky material just like the rest of her gown.

The corners of her sultry lips rose to create a smile, one lined by mischief and a certain sense of pride; she was intensely happy with herself for making it this far. Festivals were no fun when she was forced to attend them with a series of guards or, even worse, her father flanking her side. In this one, singular scenario…she’d rather not be treated as a royal, but another passing citizen. That way she’d get the full experience of the affair, rather than the water-downed version often presented to those of a “gentler” birth.

…Nevermind that the fourteen-year old had never actually been outside unescorted. She was quite certain she could handle it. Her coal embellished hues took another scan of the immediate area, finding no sign of any guards, much less her father or her brothers, and she made a beeline for the very large doorway which marked the exit to their home, entangling her fingers about the silver-tinted handles and preparing to pull them open.

Richard moved through the castle swiftly and without purpose since he wasn't intending to go to this festival. It seemed rather pointless to go to it when he could just stay in and do whatever he wanted with whoever. Smiling at a few passing ladies and giving them a little wink Richard continued moving. Then he noticed Sara moving stealthily through the castle attempting to sneak out. Father would not approve of this. Nor would he like it. Sara was his little girl and Richard's youngest sibling to boot. As such she had very strict rules as opposed to the rest of them. Richard's own rules were pretty relaxed and he was pretty much allowed free reign. As was Trey and most his other siblings. Sara on the other hand was not allowed outside without guards and the proper surveillance. Though of course Sara still tried to make it out quite a bit without supervision.

Plus there was the fact it was dark out. Richard considered letting her sneak out feeling that he would want to do the same under the circumstances. However his natural brotherly instinct kicked in and after a moment he took off after her just as stealthily. After all he had did his fair share of sneaking around places he wasn't supposed to be in. Getting behind pillars as necessary to avoid being seen he eventually watched as she made it to the door. It was amusing and slightly impressive to see her make it so far undetected. Then again there was the festival. However if he knew Father as well as he liked to think he did. It wouldn't be long before her absence was noticed. Even if he didn't take a queen his father still cared for his children quite deeply. Every single one of his children. Since he tended to have many.

Deciding it was time Sara know she had been discovered Richard slipped next to her and leaned against the wall putting his foot in front of the door. The effect was the door was effectively stopped from opening as Richard smiled down at his younger sister.
"Hello Sar. Sneaking out are we? You know Dad would not like that very much. Perhaps I should call the guards?" His smile was slightly mischievous as he looked down at his younger sister moving his right hand to knock off her hood. "I must say for the first time I feel like we are related. That was some impressive sneaking little sis." Of course he was entirely joking since he had felt like they were related on more than one occasion. They did tend to have some similarities inherited from their father after all. Waiting for her reply Richard looked up to make sure no one was nearby.

"Okay I am only going to do this once alright so pay attention. I understand that you would like some completely unsupervised time but that is not going to happen. However I am willing to let you go under the condition it is with me. I will watch you and make sure you don't get into any trouble. If we are going to do this however we need to do it soon. Your escape will be discovered sooner or later." Giving his little sister another smile he removed his foot then opened the door holding it open for her to slide out. Surely he was going to get in trouble for helping his sister sneak out but quite frankly he didn't care. Father kept her on perhaps to tight of a leash. Even if she could kill somebody with a scream. "Let's go Sar." With that he slipped out himself slipping his hands in his pockets. "So where to little sister?"

Freedom was so close, Sara could nearly taste it at the edge of her tongue. Her smile curled ever-higher onto her cheeks, heart thudding against the confines of her chest as she moved to pull the doors open…

And then something caused the entire scene to falter. The young woman’s eyes grew wider, alight with confusion at the foot which had edged its way into the door, following the length of it to a leg, torso, and finally to the face of her elder brother, Richard. His face, framed by a curtain of lightened hair on either side, held with it an even higher degree of obstinacy than usual; he’d caught her in the act, and he knew exactly what he was holding over her head. The repercussions for her attempts at slipping away would be, at the very least, severe. And at their worst? Well, the young princess thought she’d rather not guess at that end of the spectrum.

”Y-you wouldn’t.” Sara seethed, eyes already flitting about wildly to find any nearby guards…but finding only the sculptures and statues which abutted every corner of the hall. Save for their less than sentient presence, the two of them were very much alone…for now. Even so, the princess wasn’t so daft to believe that Richard couldn’t, or even wouldn’t, make good on his sordid little threat. Out of instinct, the princess bristled, planning to make a few of her own despite having nothing concrete at her current disposal…except Richard went on to voice that he was actually quite pleased to see her doing this, which made all thoughts of rebuttal recede for the time being, and drew in their place a demeanor which was wracked with both shock and confusion.

The feeling was so intense that she could scarcely bring herself to glare as he knocked her hood back, exposing her face in full to the empty room, ”Impressive?” She scoffed, hastily regaining her usual indignant repose, ”Oh, it was more than impressive, I’d say. Did you see the men he placed outside of my chambers? It’s like he thinks I’d do something to endanger the public. Hmph! Asuna isn’t even restricted this much, and I’d worry about her over myself any day. She is, after all, utterly daft.” Her arms encircled her chest as the words left her, bottom lip curling into what was a rather obvious pout- one which only grew deeper as her brother stated, with a sense of finality she knew to be legitimate, that he was going with her.

...But at least she was going at all, and much as she wanted to argue with him; assert her independence, declare that she was worthy of the venture…he was right. They’d have to make haste before someone noticed her absence.

”Oh, fine then.” Sara growled, offering only a slight frown in return to his smile. Her resulting turn towards the doorway was abrupt enough that her gown lifted slightly from the floor, sweeping upwards just enough to reveal that she was wearing boots suitable for trekking through the woods rather than slippers expected for a princess. Not sparing a moment, the young girl was reaching out to open the gates and expose them to the crisp breeze outside, the lights and music of the festivals taking place at the center of the city slinking in around them, almost riding the night air. ”There!” She quipped, pointing to the source of the sound, and the lights, ”I want to attend the festivities, what else? So if you insist on coming, dear brother, then you’d best keep up.” Smiling at the man, the girl turned in full on her heel and erupted into the world outside- she wasn’t making light of her statement, either; she was off into the night as soon as she stepped into it, not particularly bothering to see if Richard would keep stride with her.

Richard couldn't help but be amused by his sister's initial confusion at his interference. Was it bad if he felt a small amount of satisfaction in successfully going unnoticed? And perhaps just a tiny bit of satisfaction in her not so obvious fear of what he would do as she looked at him finally? Oh she was so fun to tease. Possibly his favorite sibling because of that as well. Smiling smugly at her voicing that he wouldn't. Oh if Richard didn't know the type of punishment she might receive for sneaking off something he did often enough he might have turned her in. However seeing where she was sneaking off to would be that much more entertaining. Oh she surely had somewhere exciting picked if she went through all this trouble. If Richard chose to sneak off it was always to do something slightly dangerous and therefore he was curious just how alike they were.

Watching with further satisfaction as his threat hit home and caused her to look about paranoid of the whole situation. Oh she was oh so fun to tease. It should really be a crime to tease your younger sister with as much fun as it brought him. Then Sara looked as if she was about to deliver her own threats that likely held no substance or anything of the nature to them. She hadn't caught him doing anything. Well not recently at least. And whatever she had caught him doing in the past did not even compare to the punishment she would receive for this. Oh yes he had her this time. He would willing accept a punishment for whatever she might threaten in exchange. However today would not be the day. Richard was far more interested in seeing where she was headed. His little sister's confusion in him voicing he was pleased even furthered his smile.

It was always good to keep your siblings guessing after all. The glare that came before her speaking indignantly about it being impressive served to prove she was recovering. About time. At her confession of how she had even managed to make it passed the men outside her room could be good ammo for later. After all just bringing up that the men outside his little sister's door were incompetent would be more than enough. Of course the action could prove bad for the men but Richard didn't really care. They weren't doing their job and therefore deserved what they got. Plus it would help ensure that his sister had a harder time sneaking out. Even if he didn't get her into any kind of trouble. Perhaps it would be best to remind Sara that he had further ammo for the future to keep in mind.
"Quite frankly I think you would do something to endanger the public Sar. However that is unimportant. Even how daft Asuna is isn't important at the moment. What is important is this."

Lips curling into a slightly mischievous smile as Richard brought his finger up to poke her in the forehead. "I can tell father that your guards are insufficient. Making it rather difficult to sneak out again. Keep that in mind before you try and get anything on me. I do not feel inclined to make good on my threat right now. Just keep it in mind for the future." Ah yes proving that he had her in the slight game they were playing was very satisfying. Even if Sara didn't realize it was all like a big game. If it really came down to it Richard would protect her from danger. However if she thought otherwise perhaps she would be inclined to stay out of danger. Not likely but it was worth a shot. She did strike him as too trusting after all. Perhaps it was her young age or maybe her sheltered nature. Richard was more ready to believe it was her age since he certainly wasn't to trusting and had been sheltered as well. Just not as sheltered...

Sara pouted in response to him coming with her and after growling out a fine frowning afterward turned to leave. Then Richard caught sight of the boots not quite able to suppress a laugh. A princess in boots was beyond amusing. Though perhaps this proved she intended to do something exciting. However his hope and amusement was crushed the moment she said she wanted to attend the festival. Shock registering on his face Richard fell into step beside her giving her a confused and slightly disappointed look. She really was innocent.
"The festival? Seriously? That is what you went through all the trouble for? Couldn't you have just came anyway if you asked father?" Surely his father wouldn't deny his youngest daughter the pleasure of attending the event if she asked? Sure she would have to be accompanied and watched the whole time but still...

"Is this all because you wanted to go out and experience it yourself? Man I thought you were doing something fun. This is lame Sar. Why don't we go do something worth getting in trouble for? Like exploring? Surely that sounds more exciting? What did you wear boots for if you intended to go to the festival?" Richard was aware that he may have been pouting slightly and whining about having to go to the festival. Seriously though? The festival? So boring. Still he had said he would go along for the ride causing Richard to sigh and adopt a bored expression. "Fine fine...we can go to the festival. Next time though try sneaking out for something more worthy. This is not worth the trouble it could bring. Where do you want to go first?" There must be some specific area she wanted to visit in the festival right? Ah who was he kidding she didn't have anything specific in mind. "Never mind you don't have anywhere specific in mind do you?"

Sara’s steps were fast, nearly giddy as they made their hasty ascent towards the center-most point of the city; the area which would be the very hub of the festivities. They were still some distance away, the light from the fires a mere beacon on the horizon, the streets around them overcast, quiet; most were either already there or sleeping at this hour; She was rather sure that they’d pass no one in the streets for some time yet.

Richard had breathed a great many threats her way just before her departure, which she’d replied to with only obstinate silence, her slightly gaunt little nose twitching upwards at his statements as she had considered them, annoyance lacing every line about her youthful face. She knew that he was right; would have been a fool to convince herself otherwise, and yet was far too stubborn to give him the satisfaction of actually admitting to the knowledge. Let him be content with the look which had shrouded her face, as it had likely been indication enough to her small defeat.

Now, though, she quelled her anger…because there were many other things to look forward to which, at the present, could trump it. She took a moment to note the houses which rose upwards on either side of them, made of nearly the same material which comprised the streets below her feet; a map etched almost entirely in cobblestone, or material which much resembled it. In the darkness, it was boring, because one couldn’t distinctly make out the architecture and artistry which generally set the richer areas apart from the poorer…and of course, none of this could match the splendor which was reserved for the royal family’s home alone.

When Richard caught up with her, he voiced his discontent at their destination, to which Sara only produced a slight and begrudging growl.

”Hmph! You were the one who insisted upon coming; if it sounds so unappealing why not simply turn back and let me go on my own, as I had intended to do!” For a moment, her coal gaze flickered to her feet, to the toes of the boots which every so often peeked out from beneath the ever-swaying fabric of her gown, ”Though I will admit that I had planned on perhaps making a few other excursions…only,” She looked at him, rather pointedly, and lifted her index finger to her face, shaking it as if that might add some amount of finality to her point, Afterwards.”

At her brother’s inquiry about where they might go first, the girl couldn’t help but falter just slightly, the tiny bit of rouge which crept into her cheeks displaying well the fact that she’d not exactly planned that far ahead. Richard seemed to take notice of it, which of course only caused the coloring to deepen, annoyance yet again dappling the lines about her mouth and setting her lips into a thin crease.

”I…I had simply planned to take everything in stride, you see! But look here, it doesn’t matter! We’ve very nearly arrived!” It was true, the lights were no longer at the fringe of their vision, but was now circumventing around them, the music which accompanied it so loud that it nearly muffled the height of Sara’s voice.

There were stands set up at every corner, some with merchants selling every assortment of food one could think of, others still selling odds and ends or hosting games. Abutting the fountain at the center of the square, a musician strummed on a mandolin, and a masked man nearby breathed fire upwards from a torch. Down some ways, people in masks danced about as if it were a ball, and to their side a tavern had its doors opened wide, a number of inviting scents leaking out.

Sara’s fascination with the whole affair was almost child-like, a mirthful smile threading her lips. She glanced to Richard, unable to quell her excitement even enough to properly deliberate on where to go first.

Richard was only slightly surprised by his sister's giddiness as they made their way to the festival. After all she was still a child for the most part and therefore he always thought of her as such. Well he always thought of her as a child and a brat. Though of course they were all brats for the most part. It was all part of being a Bellerose in his mind and as such overlooked. For a brief moment he thought about just taking his sister back to the castle to stop her from getting into any kind of trouble. That would be what was expected of him by his father. Though he had never been one to follow closely to what others expected of him and liked to keep them guessing. It always made things more interesting. Oh and how he so liked interesting things. They were...interesting. The whole thing still struck him as beneath him. After all sneaking out to go to a festival was just not worth it if you weren't a child. Unless that festival held a certain cutey he would have been planning to meet up with. That had happened on occasion.

Richard felt extremely pleased with himself as she silently admitted defeat to him her silence and look saying more than words ever could. In response he just shot her a smug look that would convey that he was well aware he had won for now. In retrospect it might seem like a small victory but when it concerned siblings sometimes small victories were far more pleasing than large ones. Oh and how good he was at seizing the small victories for himself. Not to mention small victories could be far more annoying to the other person at times and his sister was oh so fun to tease. Well all his siblings really but Sara more so because of her young age and childishness. He could get just as childish with her and it would be normal for her. Where as his older siblings would take it a lot different. The surroundings were mainly ignored as they walked as Richard found them to be boring next to their home. Everything else in comparison was just...plain and bland.

As his sister finally spoke up concerning his voiced discontent with their destination he simply shrugged.
"While it does sound very boring and unappealing I think I will stay. It could turn out to be fun. Besides leaving you alone with the general populace is a recipe for disaster and if I am not there to quell it then it could get out that I let you leave without an escort. Then I could get in trouble. There is no way I am going to let you get me in trouble little sis." Smiling at her as she pointed at him in finality after saying she had plans to go elsewhere afterwards. "Now that is more like it. You had me a little worried that this trip would be boring. Now however Sar I know that it could be interesting." Richard didn't fail to notice Sara faltering at his question about where to go first confirming his assumption that she hadn't planned any of it. Well any of it past escaping the castle. That had obviously had at least a small amount of planning to it. He knew from experience that it required a little planning.

Then came the blush causing him to smirk and roll his eyes at her looking ahead as they moved closer. He was obviously pushing her annoyance with him further the thin line her mouth had become making the smirk turn into a small laugh.
"Take everything in stride huh? Sure Sar. Just admit that you didn't consider anything passed escaping and making it to the festival." The loud noise accompanying their destination told him that they were nearly there just as well as her voicing it aloud. His sisters childlike fascination with the whole thing became very apparent on her face as she looked up at him in excitement. It was uplifting to see her so excited and almost stopped him from making a comment. Almost. "Now remember Sar you be a good little girl and I might win you something. If your bad though then there will be no treats or candy for you." Staring down at her with a stern gaze to further the point he couldn't keep a straight face for long. "Okay now with that settled chose our first destination. Preferably one with a cute girl nearby."
