So... this week there has been a lot of controversy surround Eri, Reina and Sayu about a blog post that seemed to be 'making fun' of Korean people. In Reina's blog she had a post with her and Eri then with her and Sayu pushing their eyes back to make them look Korean. I'll find the translated blog in a bit but here are the posts;; [x][x]

Here is a 'article' about the situation;; [x]

China and Taiwan had a news story about it also~ it's pretty much reached global proportions by now. Sayu, Reina and Eri all wrote an apology. Say's was long and very heartfelt. Reina's was done in typical 'yankee' fashion by pretty much saying, "s**t happened, lets move on. I'm sorry" and Eri used Reina's blog since she dosen't have one of her own and hers was also very heartfelt.

Here is the apology translations;; [x]

IMO;;
I think this was taken way out of hand. It was a mistake made by three people who love Korean music and the culture in general. I'm sure nothing bad was supposed to come from this but unfortunately, because they're famous everything gets blown up into something critical. Oh, and also... Eri looks beautiful as a Korean person (not that she isn't beautiful already) >w> annnd I admit to going into the bathroom and slanting my eyes to see what the big deal was.

This whole thing was retarded, for everyone involved. It was stupid for those photos to be posted, it was stupid for people to report on it.

I don't think you could call it 'racism', anyway. Sure, some people may be offended by the simple imitation, but there was no judgment being passed. I feel like people jump onto the racist boat way too quickly. It's not racist to point out differences, it's only racist when you let those differences get in the way of equality. (For example, you wouldn't be called sexist if you put on a long wig and said you were dressing as a woman, would you?)

Agh, this whole thing. Stupid stupid stupid.

If anything, they're just running off of stereotypes. But stereotypes =/= racism.
