Wall and Gate
In the far west of what used to be the United States of America, now a barren wasteland, there is a place. This place is the place of dreams, of family, of justice, and strength. Its walls are fortified by the courage that boasts within. The weapons impact with the force of thousands of fists, those fists belonging to the brave souls who fought bravely and fell. This is a place of brotherhood, of sisterhood, of vigilance and honor. This is the Brotherhood of Steel.
The fortress is large and protects its inhabitants from the harsh conditions of the wasteland. In this location, the radiation levels are normal so its just about the safest place in the world now. The walls stand roughly twelve feet high and are about three feet thick. They are made of concrete and their foundation is directly built into them and runs about ten feet into the ground. Slanted steel pillars all around the inside perimeter support them, so these walls stand no chance of coming down. The gates open outward through steam power and gears. It is a primitive mechanism but it gets the job done. Smaller doors are on the gates themselves in case only one or two people need to get in. There is no sense in wasting effort. These doors are relatively thin steel doors that can be locked up pretty tight. There is a gate to the north, south, and west.
Along the perimeter of the wall are guard towers and stations. There is a tower about every 100 yards and a station at the top of each tower. At any given moment there is always two guards at each station. At each station are a sniper rifle and a mounted gatling gun. The gatling gun is for a wide spray and the sniper rifle is for taking out single targets of course. On the roof of each station is an anti air missile turret. All of this equipment is checked and reloaded daily as a part of the guard's duties. The missile turrets are controlled by the guards by way of a computer at each station.
Interior
The interior isn't paved, but it is well smoothed and nothing but dirt. All of the rocks and pebbles were picked and swept away. One could walk barefoot. The architecture is simple and sturdy. That is exactly how it needs to be in these harsh times. Stones mark the paths and there is little plant life. The sky is a bit hazy due to the upper radiation in the atmosphere. But it still is beautiful. In the very center is the Wall of Brothers. This is where the brave deeds of those both living and dead are commemorated and honored through engravings. It is a rough, yet humble appearance. But, definitely something one could get used to.
Facilities
There is a gate at each of the four directions, accept for east. This is because the east side of the wall houses the garage. The garages is where all land roaming vehicles are stored and maintained. The garage is situated here because it is facing the bulk of the world. There are about a dozen or so mechanics for every section. Each section of the garage can hold up to two tanks, or eight cars, or about twenty motor cycles, or any fitting combination in between. All the supplies needed to maintain such vehicles can be found within the walls of the garage. Large steel gates that are just as strong as the other gates can open quickly for fast deployment of our forces. The garage has surrounding vehicle warehouses that looks like aircraft hangars, to protect the vehicles from the elements, but essentially, their housed in areas for vehicles. This allows for a great number of vehicles. If we are attacked, they will often be deployed before infantry. The garage is called, by most of the base inhabitants, The Motor Pool.
In the center of the base and slightly to the north of the Wall of Brothers is a circle of four buildings. All but one of these buildings are empty at the moment. Each of these buildings has a above ground barracks and a barracks below ground, where their can be a total of eight Divisions within the four structures. The single barracks in use currently is Talon Division. Each barrack contains a room with two rows of ten bunk beds for a total of forty beds. Next to each bunk bed is a tall double door locker. These lockers are used for storing uniforms. Each individual is given three uniforms and they are expected to keep them clean. Usually the people in the bunks will choose separate sides of the lockers. Everyone is expected to keep his or her belongings clean and organized. This is what is seen when one first walks in. The hallway that is at the end of the division barracks leads to private quarters of the ranks of Knight and above, two Knights share a room, this helps promote the advantages of working hard, that you get a private quarters after a long term of service. The door that is at the end of the hallway leads to the division paladins private quarters. These quarters are simple with a small bathroom, kitchenette, closet, bed, and bedside dresser. On the left wall of the main bunkroom is a door that leads to the showers, the shower room is for both genders to be used at the same time or to take showers when others isn't occupying them if some are a bit shy, otherwise, personnel are expected to be mature while in the shower room. On the right wall is two doors, both are restrooms, one for men and one for women, unlike the showers, the restrooms are there for privacy with being seperate. Outside, where you enter the barracks, there is a small lobby, with another door that leads into the barracks, the lobby is meant as a stopping point. To the right side of the door that you come through from the outside is a small store room, where weapons are checked into, you may pick up your specific weaponry as you come and go from the barracks. But weapons being stored in the barracks is not prohibited for the reasons that it's a living environment and shouldn't be made unsafe by members fooling around with weaponry. Personnel are expected to refrain from any distracting sexual conduct both in and out of private times. We never know when there might be an attack in these harsh times.
To the west of the bunkers is where one can go for most of their daily needs. The library, gym, and mess hall are all here. The library is a large circular building that seems to give off an intelligent posture. The double doors are of scrap metal and so is most of the building. Minimal materials were put into the place because the rest were used for essentials. Within the library is a front desk with an elderly librarian. The books are all from vaults that have been found by the BOS and some that have been written by members of the BOS. Ender himself is currently chronicling the events within the BOS and his writings can be found here. Before entering the library, one must disarm themselves. The mess hall is right next door, between the library and the gym. It is a simple warehouse with one large room. A kitchen was build within the room and the left over space holds many, many tables. The kitchen is large enough to cook for hundreds of people at one time and get their meals to them hot and fresh. Attached directly to the mess hall is the laundry room, with forty washers and forty dryers. One can clean their clothes and eat at the same time. Next to the mess hall is the gym. The gym is a simple building with a quarter mile racetrack adjacent to it. Within are various exercising equipment and gear. It can support about twenty people at a time. In the center is a ring used for sparing practice and training. One is not allowed to intentionally hurt anyone within the ring. It is only for practice.
To the south of the barracks are the medical center, the armory, and the demolition bunker. The medical center is between the two and is a white metal building. This is the only building that puts all of its effort into comfort. It even has heating and cooling systems. In the center is a large pillar with operating stations around it. Each station is equipped with robotic nurses, doctors, and all the equipment they need. There is an 85% survival rate in their capable hands with most surgeries so feel safe and be at ease. Along the walls are bookshelves filled with various volumes on health and illness. If you ever need to research something in the medical field, come here. To the west of the medical center is the armory. Here you can gather your armaments and even upgrade the ones you already have. There is a workbench for upgrading and making weapons. When one makes and tests a weapon, a detailed report must be filed for approval of that weapon and to gain the weapons corresponding rank designation. The demolition bunker is to the east of the medical center. The first room is a simple room with four doors other than the entrance. The first door leads to the disarm practice room. In here one will find fake bombs. If a mistake is made one will only get beeped at or perhaps a puff of black powder in the face. If this happens often, disarming is not for you. The second door is a place to set charges. Here you can test your bombs and practice setting the charges without blowing an arm or a leg off. Vision and hearing protection are required here. Don't do anything stupid. The third door leads to a room for research. Here you will learn the basics of demolition. A room also connected to this one is a workshop. Safety is to be observed to the fullest detail within the workshop. The manufacturing of explosives is no laughing matter. The fourth and final door is the storage room. This room is also connected to the workshop. Here you can pick up your supplies and get to work on your creation. No flames of any kind are allowed here.
To the north of the barracks are Ender's Office and the Propaganda Office. Ender's office is where you can go to submit questions, feedback, or file paperwork. Ender is usually very good about responding to said questions and files. The office also houses his private training room and it is strongly advised that one not disturb him when he is in there. Show respect when you are in the general's office or anywhere for that matter. The propaganda office is east of Ender's office. One can go here to plan recruitment of the various villages and societies in the wastelands. If one needs ideas to help gain soldiers for the BOS, come here.
To the northwest of the barracks is the shooting range. Safety must be observed to the fullest here. Always wear safety goggles and hearing protection. Shoot only the targets and never point a weapon at another individual unless you plan to shoot them. If you do decide to shoot a fellow brother though, you will be promptly tried executed upon being found guilty. Of course, accidents do happen, but don't let them. The shooting range is an open area away from any paths or buildings. This is in case of bad aim or ricochet. The targets are simple pieces of paper with silhouettes of a front view of a man. Aim for the torso, the largest target. There are also high towers so one can practice sniping from afar. A separate section is also reserved for grenade throwing and launching. Anyone who wanders into the range will probably not live long enough to be reprimanded. But, if you do happen to see someone, cease-fire and notify others around you as well in case they do not notice.
To the southeast of the barracks is the newly built research and development department along with the administration building. The Research and development building is well kept because the advancement of technology is important to BOS. One must exercise caution when conducting experiments. Within you will find a series of workbenches with sufficient lighting over each. Various tools and equipment can be found here as well as a few scientific books recovered from vaults. The backroom remains locked at all times and is basically a supply room. Here the supplies of the lab are kept safe and sound. Like the demolition area, this place may contain hazardous materials and safety must be observed to the fullest. The administration building contains the many offices of the Paladins and Elders who work on the various paperwork of the base and makes important decisions. Inside of the administration building is also the communications section, where communications come and go from the base to patrols outside of the base. This is where all of the information travels and where it ends up, this building is essentially considered the heart of The Brotherhood for this is where everything passes through.
A single power plant is too great of a target for an enemy. That is why each building and facility is powered by its own fusion cell. These cells were found in pre-war vaults and should last for many, many thousands of years. The energy is safe and renewable with special balancing systems to prevent malfunctions and overloads.
The Outside
All around the base is a barren wasteland. During the day, scorching winds bombard any that travel through these wastelands without the proper equipment. At night the temperatures drop so far bellow zero that only a fool would be out without warmth. There are ways of surviving such a harsh environment, but not many. The nomads and settlers have productive ways and they are getting along relatively well with the help of BOS.
Directly to the north of the base is the airfield. There are three landing strips. What little pavement material the BOS could find in the vaults was put to use here. Hangers line each strip and all aircraft and mobile suits are stored here. There are also some land vehicles as well. One can maintain and store their craft here. The three strips allow for fast and efficient air striking and defense. This part of the base has the best anti-air weaponry in BOS. We can't afford to lose our air support from an air attack. It is also close enough to defend the base itself from an air attack as well.
