According to Darwin, Animals, plants, and even bacteria evolve (duh...)...

So I was once wondering...

Over a few hundred million more years, what will humans look like? (given we dont go *poof* and disappear like the Dodo...)

Spoon feeding~?

Whats your opinion on Darwin?
What do you think will happen to humans?
Would you survive an alien invasiom/ human extermination War of the Worlds style?

It's an interesting question.. i'm not too sure, but I think most of us may have 6 fingers, since that's a dominent gene over 5 fingers (which is why i;m surprised most people still have 5 fingers)

as for anything else, dunno ^^;

We might have six fingers... as to the aliens taking over us we would not last.

First of all, they've seen all that we can do and can use that against us if they attack us which would lead us to a disadvantage. They might know how to use Nuclear bombs and other advance stuff that we don't know about. If the people during the Hiroshima bombings couldn't survive the high radiation levels from the nuclear bombs then we can't now. And if they used some other stuff against us that we didn't have a clue about how would we counter-attack it? Let's face it, if only the aliens came to us in peace, we would survive. If they were angry, then we should just bend over and say good-bye. By the way, it has been said that we will see aliens in the year 2010. My source is very, and I mean VERY, reliable.

Our thumbs might be moved pretty far up our hands, and uh...stuff.

I say that just because recently so much technology has been developed that requires more use of the thumb than any other finger. Such items include both videogames and cell phones.

I think the human race shall grow increasingly taller. surprised 7 feet tall will no longer be quite so strange.

And since obesity is such a problem the humans shall eventually evolve into ogres. Eventually all the technology shall rot their brains and we'll be back to hitting things with big sticks for survival.

I was half joking there...

You really never know. I think the human race would adapt to warm climates. Since the sun is maturing each and every day of our lives. Actually, not really a way to guess how we'll evolve. Maybe we'll grow an extra arm or leg, maybe even a tail or gills! These possibilities can be endless like the sky.

We probably won't evolve too much because mate-selection is no longer based on physical characteristics - nor is survival. Before, we'd only have babies with the tallest, strongest ones and the gimpy ones with missing legs and three eyes and things would die somewhere.

Now, those with a disease do not necessarily die from it. They may go on to reproduce. Disorders that once would have ended with the death of the carrier are continued as the carrier reproduces (though, to be honest, if these disorders were going to have been wiped out pureply by stopping people who have them breeding, then surely they'd have been wiped out long ago? Tis only a theory here.)

Now we reproduce with people for a variety of reasons - some people select partners based on money, the car they have, the materials they can bestow. Some people don't select their partner at all; arranged marriage.

So evolution will probably slow as natural selection has been wiped out.

We may all end up smaller and hunchbacked so we can see our computer screens better and we may become less able to perform strenuous physical activity.

The subject came up in class this week, and you basically summed up everything
that was said. Nice.

Evolution kinda stopped a while for us, and all animals in captivity. The last time humans tried to have evolution, it involved a near genocide, world war, and a couple of atoms splitting.

An interesting opinion shown in Guns, Germs & Steel was that some aboriginal tribes the modernized world tries not to effect have continued evolution due to:
Lower health
Lower life expentancy
Lower birth rates
Higher chance of dying from unnatural causes
Higher amounts of war time

It basically summed it up with smarter people had kiddos, the dumber guys who didn't realize which end of the spear was which didn't have kiddos. Therefore, smarter kiddos, who probably wouldn't die from infantile disease, as their ancestors would have died before reaching sexual/physical maturity.

[D: I couldn't stand Guns, Germs, and Steel when I had to read it.... But anyways.]

[I'm thinking that for technology, will somewhat go in reverse. With the idea that there will be a WW III with the high amount of intelligence when it comes to destructive weapons. There's a high chance that countries will become stupid and use the atomic bomb on those that they 'think' need it. Well, that country will throw a bomb right back if they can and then we'll have this whole destruction of the country fab going on. With that, amount of population deaths will rise to an unstable amount along with the the intelligence and even resources to invent well, inventions to help us in the future, not to mention the items already made would be destroyed to.]

[With human evolution. The organs that have no use to us will eventually disappear. And we'll have no pinky. According to a few of my past science teachers. xD Our health will decrease due to smog and chemicals put into the air, and destruction of enviornment. That'll cause immune systems to become less reliable and many would die because of it.]

[And I'll stop my ideas and very 'out-there' theories.]
