I have a broken watch that I want to get the gears out of, the only problem I can't seem to get it open. My friend told me to smash it with the hammer, but I'm scared that I'll do something to the gears. Dose anyone know how to get it open or will smashing it be ok?

Depends. What kind of watch is it? We might be able to figure something out.

It's a wrist watch that I got for x-mas when I was little, so I don't realy know what it is. There looks like there's a grove on the back were it opens. I've been picking at it for a wile now but it's not opening.

Do you have a screwdriver? A smaller one but one strong enough to pry something open? One of those flathead ones. (I don't think that's what they're called...)

If so then use your fingernail to trace the crack until you find a groove type thingy. Insert the screwdriver and pop it open. Voila~!

Just remember that the gears in a watch are super tiny. Unless it is a pocket watch, then they're a tad bit larger.

Indeed, a glasses screwdriver would probably be your best bet. If you still can't get it open, I would suggest actually going to the jewelry department of Walmart or anyplace that has jewelry and ask if they could open it for you. They'll usually do this for free.

Part of the reason you may be having problems opening it is the battery may have, unfortunately, corroded inside. There is usually a plate blocking the gear work from the battery just in case of this, so all should still be good!

I got it open! Thank you guys so much. When I was looking through my house for a small screwdriver I atualy found an entire set small enough to take apart the watch and get the gears.
