((This is for Alces only.))

The road stretched out before him, dusky sunlight filtering through the trees. On either side of the path scraggly branches from unkempt bushes reached towards him, making the path even smaller. Blades of grass peeked out, and it was obvious that the underbrush was truly beginning to take over by now.

Beyond these branches, however, were the first indicators that he was in the right area. On either side loomed the huge, ominous mountains he had been informed the ruins lie between. He could not see the ruins themselves just yet, but ahead he could spot the area widening out, where they were likely to be.

The path to his destination had been the longest Alces had ever found himself travelling, especially alone. He was surprised, however, that he had found indications of his impending destination. Perhaps he had been so lost in his own thoughts that time had escaped him, and for that he was thankful. Still, the elk had much on his mind, and it wasn't entirely pleasant.

After responding to the summon his king had sent him, he found a perfect excuse to run away from his guilt. Never, for even one minute, had Alces forgiven himself for leaving Muris behind at the Moon Court. He had initially reasoned with himself that she was strong, she was fast, and his duty was to find the child. He had performed his duty, but at what cost? Alone with his thoughts all the time Muris had been away, and even after she had been returned to their home and haven, Alces had slowly fallen into a state of guilty reclusiveness.

Even as his king warned him that the journey would be long, and urged him to take Orin, he found that he couldn't. The steed was still penned in Muris' stables, a place Alces found he could not yet go. It hurt too much to know that he couldn't protect the one person that mattered most.

So, he had snatched up this quest to give himself time to think, later on wondering if the King had given it to him precisely for this reason. His cousin was ever so clever like that.

Still, Alces regretted his decision not to take Orin. His legs were tired, and the extended lack of companionship was unnerving. Next time he was sent out on a journey, he would have to make sure not to let his pride get in the way of bringing his friend.

He picked off a branch that had caught on his hair and tugged it back, before bending underneath the invading shrubbery to continue on towards the clearing up ahead.

As he moved forward, he could just make out the outlines of the ruins in his vision. They seemed none too worse for the wear, considering the amount of time they had been out of use.

A rabbit skittered across the path, heading towards some unknown destination. It paused a moment later, then dove into the underbrush as a wolf galloped after it.

The wolf was unsuccessful rooting the creature out, and so headed off in another direction. Probably it had spotted a small deer earlier and was returning to try it instead now that the rabbit was out of reach.

Though his goal was in sight, he stopped when movement caught the corner of his eye, and watched as the rabbit skittered by. A broad, crooked smile lit his face, though it quickly faded when the wolf followed. The last thing he wanted to witness was the befouling of a rabbit at the jaws of a wolf in front of him, but the creature was lucky enough to find shelter in time. Alces stood where he was, his eyes keenly remaining on the wolf until it was out of sight before returning to his path.

The ruins were easier to get to than he expected, but he felt wary of the overall presence that surrounded the place. He followed the path down to the ruins, and stopped just at the edge of them, ready to take a better look around before walking over anything that could possibly collapse under his pressure, or under anything ready to crumble from age.

He was right to feel uneasy. There was a rustling in the bushes beside him, and a snarling introduced his next visitor.

A figure leaped out of the bushes, just barely missing Alces as it attempted to land on him. Snarling, the creature turned around, looking ready to make another attempt. It was quite possibly the largest weasel the man had ever seen, being all of six feet and length and nearly four hundred pounds.

Alces froze in place when he felt the rush of air pass him, and his eyes followed the huge form that swooped by, until it landed before him. His head tilted up as he followed the creature that rose to it's full height, and took a few fumbling steps back as his mind raced to form a plan before he became weasel chow. There was no way he could simply run, it was blocking all of his escape paths. He didn't even bother to consider fighting it head on, and so his choices were limited. Willing himself to focus, he lifted a hand up slowly, while still taking a few steps back. His fingers curved in an odd pose, and his hand swayed from side to side, trying to catch the attention of the creature though his backstepping assured he could still manage to attempt a getaway if it should fail.

"Shh," He cood softly, his voice calm and soothing. "Be still my.. large friend. Just watch my hand, do not anger yourself so. I can assure you, I am an unappetizing meal, not worth your time. Quite stringy, in fact."

In this way he continued to attempt to hypnotize the creature while taking gentle, silent steps back, biting his lip being only indication of his true fear.

The weasel seemed unimpressed by his waving fingers. He growled all the louder, not understanding Alces' words and not trying to. Launching himself forward, he managed a quick bite...

((Alces will take 9 damage, depending on his saving throw. Roll a d20))

((He loses nine hit points. XD. Roll a d20 if you want to attack. ))

The weasel successfully latched onto the poor Elk, his teeth clamped tightly around his arm. A bit of blood leaked out of the wounds, falling quickly to the ground and becoming lost in the weeds poking out of the path.

Alces let out a stifled scream when the weasel bit into his arm, turning to keep the rest of his body away from any flailing clawed limbs. His free hand reached within the fold of his tunic, and when it pulled away, a dagger spun through the space between his fingers until the hilt was in his palm. He clamped upon it then, stopping the quick spinning movement as he aimed quickly, bringing it up to the great creatures head and meaning to sink the daggers blade between it's eyes.

This was simply not the way he saw himself choosing to handle the situation. Should he manage to hit his target, he silently asked for forgiveness.

The weasel was quite unhappy with being struck, but managed to keep its grip on his arm nonetheless. He wiggled a bit, though, as blood dripped down.

Well this was getting quite ridiculous. The foul thin hadn't even let go of it's grip on his arm, which he had to admit hurt far more than could be considered safe. Forgiveness was the last thing on his mind as he pulled the dagger out of the creature, making a face at the sight of blood. Of course, his own was ebbing down onto the grass below them, and he felt light headed already. Altogether it simply didn't look good for him. With a new determination he aimed and plunged the dagger into the creature again, determined to at least get it off him, so that he could deal with it a bit safer than it's current proximity.

This time he didn't pray for forgiveness, he simply prayed it was good enough.
