~ The Setting ~

Where Does This Story Take Place?

This story is set in a fictional future Earth now ruled in dystopian style by the seven great corporations, Z-Corp, Tech-Inc, MTU Manufacturers, Andorid Industries, Arms Co., Genetics Enterprise, and The New World Conglomerate ((NWC)). The story begins in Z-Corp territory

Something that should be noted is that this future Earth is not a future version of our Earth, it's a completely alternate world, so nations and history aren't the same. The history of the old world is however highly irrelevant in this game, so just ignore it, and play, actual detailed information on the different nations will be left open so we can add in more areas as the story progresses, and develop each one internally.

What is this future Earth like?

Well in the days of this RP, set in 2162, the world has become one big battlefield, nations don't exist, corporations do, because in the end only one thing matters. Cash. Armies don't exist, just people and weapons, each Corporation has it's own personal security forces, but the only battles that manner are all about undermining, and muscling over the other Corporations, so mercs are employed.

Mercs are effectively one men armies that the corporations hire so that their names aren't anywhere near the mission. This way they can wage shadow wars against each other, but with no paper trail, or real connection to the soldiers, and the missions. Therefore no corporations can trust each other, but can't declare outright war because they're all so good at covering their tracks.

Mercs are super-powered, exceptionally skilled, or obscenely well armed individuals, who are able to take down entire forces on their own. They usually work alone, or occasionally in groups, and the only things that can possibly pose a threat to a merc is another merc, or a well prepared band of Ordinators. If merc goes rogue it's an outlaw, what qualifies as a rogue merc is essentially a rebel, a merc that acts specifically against the Corporations for his own profit. Few know this but a rogue merc is the one thing the corporations fear, because if an individual that powerful could gather support, and organize the other mercs, the corporations could be overthrown and destroyed. Because of this the corporations have carefully monitored and managed merc activity for over a hundred years, making sure they don't lose their position, and their authority.

Ordinators are like bounty hunters, but their sole purpose is to keep mercs under control. Ordinator bands are groups ranging from small squads of five or six, to groups of around fifty or sixty members. They are highly skilled, and a band of Ordinators is usually about the only thing that can slow down a rogue merc. They don't specialize in bring back their targets alive, but the ones that do can earn a small fortune from the Corporations. When a merc goes rogue it seems all the corporations divide the funds to pay off Ordinators, it's the only thing in history that has ever encouraged them to work together.

Alright, so let's here some more about those super powers, and awesome weapons.

Well this RP is going to contain crazy powers, and insane battles, like punching through giant robots, and blasting enemies through sky scrapers. Epic battles. The characters in this RP all get their powers through one of six means, which will be detailed later on. The brief version is that you can be either a Meta-Human, Cyborg, Android, Gunner, Mechanic, or a Pilot.

Different powers will include feats of agility, and strength the can get up to the point where your weaving through waves of bullets, swatting rockets out of the sky, and literally tearing mechs in half. Naturally things build up to that, though the characters do start off at pretty epic levels of power, they are gonna get gradually stronger.

All the characters are going to have multiple unique fighting techniques, or special attacks if you will. They will not always make sense or be realistic, and may involve launching energy blasts at opponents, epic gun tricks, or a variety of other techniques depending on your classification. You will start with a few, there is no set limit but roughly three, and you will gain more as you go. Some are special attacks that are unique entirely such as a flaming punch, while others are what's called a rush attack, and involve a complicated combo that usually involves multiple small attacks utilized to set up your opponent for a big finish.

Each character will also start with a finisher, there best attack at that time, it can be anything, but wouldn't be used for a standard fights. Naturally as your character gains more abilities there old finishers will become standard attacks as they gain new finishers. This keeps combat fresh as the characters will be frequently adding new attacks to their repertoires. Think of certain manoeuvres in JRPGs, and some anime programs for ideas and inspiration for special moves.

More in depth info about the Corporations Please!

Certainly. Each corporation rules a different part of what of the world, and has a distinct style and CEO, detailed info on the different CEOs will become apparent later, along with the different chairmen in each Corporation. Keep in mind the corporations are the villains of this campaign, and each one will have it's own major story arc as the primary antagonist. Each corporation ((Save for The New World Conglomerate)) is themed after one of the seven Classifications.

The first Corporation is Z-Corp. They are themed after the Cyborg classification, and are notable for their hands approach, and recognizable uniform. Z-Corp is he most openly corrupt of the Seven, lying, cheating, stealing, and employing the most underhanded tactics possible. The CEO of Z-Corp is a mysterious man, whose name and face have never been revealed.

The Second Corporation is Tech-Inc. Themed after the Mechanic Classification, Tech-Inc employs the most advanced tools and gadgets in the world, and are well known for their genius leader named Teagan, a master inventor who rules the Corporation in a very affable and relaxed manner. Despite his generally approachable attitude he is as sneaky and underhanded as the rest of them.

The Third Corporation is MTU Manufacturers. Based on the Pilot Classification they design most of the world's Mobile Tank Units, or mechs as they're more commonly called. MTU is run by the distinct Whinter family, a group that models themselves as nobles, aristocrats, refined, and cunning, they are not to be trifled with. Their CEO is the conniving young Laurelei Whinter, the young daughter, and sole heir to the entire Corporation. She is never without her loyal butler Vaulkner at her side.

The Fourth Corporation is Android Industries. They are, obviously, based off of the android Classification. They mass produce many of the world's androids, though not all. Unlike the common sentient and unique robots found throughout the world the ones produced by AI are all mindless machines that follow the orders of their mysterious CEO. Just like the CEO of Z-Corp he remains a complete enigma.

The Fifth Corporation is Arms Co. They are themed after the Gunner classification, manufacturing and utilizing much of the world's firepower. The CEO of Arms Co. is the dangerously violent Fara. A woman who's outbursts of rage, and the resulting destruction, is legendary. Arms Co. is known for it's chaotic and un-organized method when compared to the others.

Genetics-Enterprise is the company responsible for much of the world's Meta-Humans, and is one of the most powerful organizations in the world. They are run by a man known as Doctor Gregor Diabolus, known for his manipulative, and arrogant manner, as well as fearsome prowess in battle.

Finally The New World Conglomerate, or more commonly known as the NWC. They are the most influential of the Seven, operating mostly by manipulating the other six. CEO and head Chairmen of the entire Corporate Board, which contains the CEOs of the other six corporations, is the deviously intelligent, and elusive Baltic, a man known famously for always donning a plain white mask in public.

~ The Plot ~

"Attention legendary merc known as The Beast has gone rogue, this is an alert to every Ordinator and Merc within Z-Corp borders, The Beast has gone rogue. We are offering a value of 1,000,000 Pretium for him dead, 1,000,000,000 Pretium for his live capture, and trial before the Corporate Board."

This message was relayed across the world over three months ago, and the highest bounty in history was set. It was only four days later that The Beast was reported dead, KIA by the hands of the combined forces of over thirty Ordinator groups, as well as the presence of multiple mercs, and reportedly an unnamed member of Z-Corp. The crisis that had shaken the Board immensely was averted. Or so it seems.

The Beast who had apparently gone rogue was well known as one of the most fierce and dangerous mercs of all time, if not THE single most fierce and dangerous merc of all time. The Beast has been operating for over thirty years, and has been a secret weapon for The Corporations to employ. Of course they all operated against each other, trying to bury their competition whenever possible, and when the hired The Beast they had to make sure nothing got out.

The Corporations disdained hiring him, they looked at it as playing dirty, even by their standards, so to avoid drawing extra ire from the allied enemies The Seven Great Corporations, or SGC as they are commonly referred to as, rarely employed him, and kept it under wraps from literally every single person, even their closest generals.

Then he went Rogue, the term basically meant that he was acting on his own interests, performing missions without command from any of the SGC. When this occurred measures were instantly taken, because the SGC know that the moment Mercs start to operate on their own, and god forbid organize! That there was a definite chance of them losing there power.

The ultimate sting was set in place and after a battle of unprecedented destruction The Beast was reportedly destroyed. However rumors abound that he lived through the attack, and that somewhere he is hiding, recuperating, and waiting to return for a full scale, global rebellion. Many disregard these rumors as complete folly, while others hunt mercilessly, hoping to capture the once legendary warrior while he is weak, and cash him in, bringing him back alive, and cash in on that juicy 1,000,000,000P Bounty.

~ The Rules ~

General Rules

Right General Rules. Okay so I know at this point I shouldn't have to alert everyone to follow TOS, etcetera, but just to make sure you all get it. Now I'm not gonna demand that everyone play nice, however I will say this, please be civil with each other, and trust me when I say this. When it comes to roleplaying, unity is the key to longevity, in other words if we get along, make friends, and all that, this RP is likely to last a hell of a lot longer.

I want you to PM me your profiles, and don't post until I have accepted it, a fairly straightforward rule that you all should have been expecting. Right title it "Aeturnus Miles", a fairly simple expectation. Follow the Skeleton please, change or add something only if you've asked me, and I have accepted, if you wish spruce it up visually, do so anyway you like, as long as all the same information is present. One last thing, if you want any info to be removed from your profile, or altered, so you can keep certain aspects of your character a secret then just request it upon sending your profile, as long the 100% accurate info is sent to me first.

Posting Rules

Right Posting Rules. Okay now I'm a roleplayer who can write anywhere between Lit and Elite levels, however I'm not particularly interested in ten paragraphs of boring filler, and interior monologue. So what that means is quality of quantity, I want interesting posts, make them funny, entertaining, witty, exciting, or even emotional, anything but just plain boring. I understand early on, most of the posts will simply be sort of character intros and atmosphere developing posts, however I don't want to see absolutely massive posts with no real content.

Okay now on to syntax, which for those who are currently unaware is grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. Well okay I'm not gonna be to harsh, after all this is for fun, not like an essay or anything, but try your best to use proper syntax, and at the very least double check your work, and make use of spell check. Now something that is a must, remember third person narrative, and dialogue goes in quotations ((These thingies "" )) and no L337, or chat speak, or whatever you want to call it.

Pretty posts with lyrics, and pictures and borders, ehhh I guess if you want, it's not enforced, however I do ask, even to those who aren't great coders, make your posts nice and sleek, and professional. All that means is paragraph form, a title, resized font, and coloured dialogue text, real easy. You can go overboard if you want people, but if you're more comfortable with a simple layout then don't feel you have to try and create this big, ungodly thing.

Character Design Guidelines

Right Character Design Guidelines. Okay this one is important, because when I'm accepting a person the most important thing I look at is character design, how interesting is there character? I want this RP to feature entertaining characters, flawed, quirky, and above all like-able characters. Now over the next several paragraphs I'm going to give a rundown on what traits and style is desirable for the RP, because a strong cast is very important. I'll also give out some definite things to avoid with your characters. Now this is not me saying I know what I'm doing, you don't, and you have to listen to me because I can create more interesting characters than you. This is me saying that these are the kinds of characters that fit this RP, and fit into this world.

Right let's start with the style of characters we need. Think big personalities, over the top abilities, do you understand? Okay what I mean is I want all the characters to be very much characters, not like real people, I believe we can accomplish a good medium between relate-able, and enjoyable. Here's what you need to do, first apply flaws to your character, not everyone can be young, attractive, smart, talented, friendly, kind, coordinated, charismatic, experienced, noble and reasonable. No we need characters who are rude, ugly, physically ill, angry, unreasonable, unintelligent, naive, or immature. Now I'm not suggesting you apply all of these traits, that would create an inherently unlikeable character, but what you need to do is apply a few negative traits and flaws, and emphasize them. failure, and strife is more entertaining than absolute success and conflict avoidance.

Okay now just a few wrap up topics. First avoid overdone characters, try and infuse a bit of originality into your hero. Also make sure your characters are varied, in other words review the other accepted profiles and make somebody who just doesn't step on anyone else's toes, and fills their own niche. If we've got a big strong guy, then don't make another one, if we've got a smart guy, then don't make another smart guy, so on, and so forth. Diversity creates a far more interesting cast, keep that in mind. Also please don't everyone play a young character ((Hypocritical considering that I often play as children, but ya know.... shut up!)) Playing an older character rather than the usual sixteen to twenty-two year old cast I see can be enjoyable, having a bit more experience and maturity in a character ((Or none at all)) can be fun as well.

Roleplaying Guidelines

Okay Roleplaying Guidelines. Alright it looks like we're in the last, and probably most important section, ahh, it feels good to be almost done this post I've had to rewrite twice because of computer crashes. Anyway back on topic, yes Roleplaying guidelines, there are a few aspects you should be aware of, from the set up and execution of this RP, to smaller stuff, such as how you do little things.

Okay first off, like I said before big personalities, and that means when you're roleplaying don't go for the most logical conclusion or reaction, it's far more entertaining and fun to go with more... unpredictable responses to other characters. Now always keep good taste in mind, beyond TOS there are certain things that are just tasteful, and help to fit the storytelling style. Cursing for instance, avoid it in the narrative, but use it in dialogue appropriately. By that I mean avoid a few certain words that are just completely impolite, your judgment should tell what's appropriate and what isn't. Not everyone curses, yet often I see characters who's personalities don't advocate cursing, yet they continue on with some rather.... vile language.

Okay now a few issues to just run over, things to avoid. One is in battle some people don't know when to quit, here's the thing you can't win every fight, but more than that sometimes it just works better for the story if your character loses. Before a big fight I recommend messaging the other party, and talking out not only which of you should win, but maybe some good fight choreography, to keep everything going smoothly, and pleasantly on both sides.

Another issue is what I call flocking. It's when the moment something interesting happens, or some action occurs all the players draw their characters toward it, and it not only crowd's the scene but disrupts it, and really waters down what could have been a great scene, had everyone else not got involved, when they just don't belong. I recommend that if you wish to intrude on a pivotal scene between two players, message them and see if it will fit right, or just bring it up in the OOC.

One last thing is the format of this roleplay. It's going to run on episodes, so basically we will have headers, and titles to open up, and closers, attempting to resolve all the current conflicts and story bits that are occurring in an episode. Naturally this will require planning so feel free to message me if you want post either the closer or opener, or have an idea for a particular episode, treat it like a series, each episode deals with it's own conflict, while still addressing the over-arching plot. Remember do not post between episodes, or until the go ahead is given.

Conclusion

That about covers everything, I hope you read all the way to this point, and took my advice, and information to heart. If you pay attention to these guidelines while writing I think together we can all create an excellent adventure together. Feel free to suggest additional rules or guidelines to me, episode titles, plot twists, story arcs, NPCs, or even theme music, anything you think will benefit the story as a whole. I look forward to working with you, now read on and get to the all important profiles.

~ Classifications ~

What are They?

The seven Classifications are essentially the roles to be filled within the RP. They are Meta-Human, Mechanic, Pilot, Android, Gunner, Cyborg, and Specialist. Each has it's own set of skills and abilities completely unique when compared to the other classes. Keep in mind there will only be one of each class, beside the name of each class it's status, either Open, Reserved, Or Taken, will be displayed. The classes are for the most part archetypes for skills your character can use, but are still fairly open, and allow for a lot of personalization.

Meta-Human ~ Taken ~

Meta Humans are essential super-powered versions of people. They are the result of mass genetic manipulation, often being artificial human beings, the children of artificial human beings, or human beings that have received massive genetic upgrades through non-machines, or various other methods.

Common abilities include incredibly augmented physical abilities, granting super strength, agility, endurance, and the ability to channel, and disperse energy attacks that can cause massive ranged destruction. In close combat they can easily match mechs, a sometimes terrifying sight, seeing a human being rip right through the hardened steel of a mech chest plate, and tear out the other side. Approach with caution, looks can be deceiving, especially with Meta-Humans involved.

Mechanic ~ Open ~

The Mechanic is a skilled master of high tech equipment and gadgetry. This class can craft a variety of unique weapons to employ in combat, anything from explosives to powered gauntlets, to laser cannons. In combat their total prowess is not as high as some other classes, but they can more than hold their own, however their real skills come in handy outside of combat. They can design and maintain weapons and gear of the highest calibre, making them useful to any party containing a Gunner, Pilot, Android, or Cyborg.

Pilot ~ Open ~

Pilots are people who fight specifically in MTUs, or Mobile Tank Units, more commonly known as mechs. Pilots are highly skilled in mech combat, and are well know as being highly versatile and formidable combatants. While at first glance a mech may seem the best choice, being on average much larger than most other characters, and armed quite effectively, however this is not always true. Nonetheless Pilots remain highly effective battlefield combatants, capable of taking on large groups with ease due to the size of their weapons.

Something that should be noted about mechs is their variation. They can be skilled in both melee, and ranged combat, as well being large and bulky, or small and quick. Their size can range from ten, to fifty feet tall, and bigger isn't always better. Some people report seeing mechs much larger than fifty feet, though this is exceptionally rare, as even mechs around that given cap are extraordinarily large.

The two different styles of Mech available are the Power Armor, and Fortress Variety. PA Mechs are large, mechanical suits of armor that house the pilot in a cockpit, usually in the chest. They are most often humanoid shaped, and can wield a wide variety of weaponry. The second Variety, the Fortress Mech is more vehicular shaped, quite often shaped like a ship, that moves through the air. Quite often much larger than PA Mechs, they act as mobile bases, hence the title Fortess Mech.

Android ~ Open ~

Androids are fairly self explanatory, sentient machines. Blessed with highly adaptive and powerful AI, androids are robotic entities specific by their ability to utilize non linear thinking, and even develop human characteristics such as emotions. Androids possess their own goals, lives, and motivations, their central core processor is essentially a perfect recreation of the human mind.

Androids often possess mechanical outward appearances, though far less commonly look like normal humans, with perfect detail, including skin that mimics proper human texture and consistency, hair that grows etc.... They vary in abilities, usually utilizing built in weaponry, rather than outside tools held in their hands.

Gunner ~ Reserved ~

Gunners live by the mantra of More Dakka. In other words lots and lots of firepower. To a Gunner there are three basic rules to combat, Rule one firepower, rule two firepower, and rule three firepower. Are you getting the picture yet?

Rarely the type to bring a knife to a gun fight ((understatement)) a proper gunner comes equipped with multiple heavy duty machine guns, mini-guns, countless side-arms, and grenades a-plenty, with more than enough ammo to mow down a small army.... Which they often do. Gun toting masters of the art of marksmanship, they combine the heaviest fire-power available will masterful skills. So in short, never, ever engage a gunner at range, or at all if entirely possible.

Cyborg ~ Open ~

The Cyborg is a human who has physically enhanced themselves with robotic limbs and upgrades. Often capable of extraordinary feats through the use of built in gadgetry, common weapons include built in guns, extending limbs, and multiple attachments, such as hand comes off and surprise there is now a mini-gun extending from your wrist. Cyborg's specialize in being masters of the unexpected, there weapons and techniques are rarely seen coming, and then you're dead.

The Cyborg's powers vary greatly, as does their actual origin. Some lose limbs in accidents or battle, and have parts of their bodies replaced with cybernetic limbs, other do it out of personal choice in order to optimize efficiency. Cyborg's, like androids, can vary greatly in appearance, sometimes looking perfectly human, other times their robot extensions being far more obvious.

Specialist ~ Open ~

The Specialist is a Non-Combat character, somebody with far greater focus on their occupation, hence the name. Despite their lack of combat abilities a specialist can be incredibly useful in any party, offering a variety of skills and knowledge based on their chosen occupation. A specialist could be anything from a musician, a doctor, a cartographer, a tactician, a scientist, a merchant, or a mechanic ((Connected to, but not the same as the mechanic classification)). These are just a few of any number of specialists that a character can be.

Episode One: Awakening The Beast

The Beast is currently stated to be KIA, though many believe he survived the recent attacks due to the fact that no bounty has been cashed, and the statements are merely rumours spread by the SGC in order to keep the population under control while they personally search for The Beast. Ordinators and Mercs from around the world are now frantically searching for the injured legend, looking to cash in on the ultimate bounty. The hunt is on!
